M.C. Escher - Self Portrait 1923 Maurits Cornelis Escher was born on June 17, 1898 and died on
March 27, 1972. M.C. Escher spent his life traveling to and living
in many parts of Europe. Though he was born in the Netherlands,
he spent many years living in Italy (1922-1935), Switzerland
(1935-1937), Brussels (1937-1941) and moved back to the
Netherlands (1941-1972) for the remainder of his life.

M.C. Escher had shown an aptitude in drawing and was encouraged
to pursue his abilities. Though M.C. Escher originally took to studying
architecture, he (with the aid of artist Samuel Jessurun de Mesquita)
later found that art was better suited for him and studied under
Mesquita (1919-1922) before he embarked on his own.

Escher's work was comprised of many things, most of which were
influenced from the places he lived and traveled. He drew of many
landscapes, towns and things of nature. But this by far was not the
complete makeup of Escher's works. He also seemed fascinated by
creating works of infinite proportions, something akin to shapes that
could be tiled together endlessly.

M.C. Escher's work is both timeless and original. One can easily
recognize the style of Escher's work simply because no one else has
quite captured his gift.
I hope you enjoy this dedication to M.C. Escher.
