The
Selecter's 1994 comeback album is simply terrific, and actually makes you
glad that they were gone for 13 years. Otherwise, they couldn't have come
up with something as fresh as this album. The fierce anti fascist "Whip
Them Down" and the militant "I Want Justice" recall their 2
Tone glory days without a hint of laurel resting, while "California
Screaming" "Copasetic", and the hip hop undertones of "Neurotica"
proved that The Selecter were coming back as a new band, not making a comeback
as an old one. Even when they get unplugged and step out of their Doc Martens
with gentle tunes like "Trout" and "Ladders", they are still
a must. Backwards never, forwards forever - 2 Tone music for the 1990s.
