The
Selecter's 1980 debut is every bit as tough as The Specials' first
album, and for the most part is much groovier. When The Specials slowed
down, they sounded as if something was wrong; Too Much Pressure
shows that The Selecter were able to pull off the perfect mix of power
and soul. "Three Minute Hero", "Danger", and "Murder"
are absolute Ska killers, while tunes like "Missing Words", "My
Collie" and the great "Black & Blue" show that even when
playing below the speed limit, The Selecter are still deadly. Arguably
the best album of the 2 Tone era.
