Marchin' Already

CD: MCA /Universal /UK, 1997

Tracks:
1. Hundred Mile High City
another OCS anthem with Steve at his brilliant best. Blistering pace and a frenzy of noise - a right old car tune.
2. Better Day
full of emotion - the sound owes itself to the days of Moseley Shoals
3. Travellers Tune
an excellent rhythm. PP Arnold/Foxy duet.
4. Big Star
quiet and acoustic - just taking a rest from the dominating sound of the rest of the album.
5. Debris Road
this grows on you but it's just the same old stuff that we take OCS granted for
6. Besides Yourself
the typical style meets the untypical sound
7. Get Blown Away
outstanding brilliance that certainly will blow you away. Emphatic multi-guitar introduction contributes to one of the best OCS songs of all time. How this was never released as a single is a great mystery - a timeless classic that will never grow boring.
8. Tele He's Not Talking
a bass-fed and yet sparkling song
9. Foxy's Folk Face
Simon with his guitar and harmonica - what more need be said?>
10. All Up
jack-of-all-trades instrumental - written entirely by Damon
11. Spark And Cindy
another great song, yet no new avenues explored
12. Half A Dream Away
carefree and mellow - could have done with something a bit more heavy here though
trombone by Rico Rodriguez
13. It's A Beautiful Thing
a nice ending; sums the album up. Again PP Arnold features which adds more depth. Overall perhaps a little soft but the lengthy musical outro is fantastic.

In Marchin' Already, the previous sound of OCS has developed into a slightly more modern, electric-based style. This is certainly not a bad thing and this is a great album; it's hard to say a bad word about anything here but little new ground has actually been ventured. It's a slight return to the effect-strewn days of the debut album tied in with a sound which is much more mellow and soft. The contrast between the loud, crashing songs and the peaceful, harmonious ones is excellent. Apparently the album gets its name from something Steve said when someone asked "What's the date? March the..?", to which he replied "March in already?"
