You Never Know

Part Four

"I can't believe they turned us down on swapping beds. Those bunks aren't the most comfortable things." Chele said entering their shared bathroom. "I was kind of touched the way their Mom insisted it was a good family project. Yeah right girls in this bunkhouse, boys in the other and that includes you husband of mine. No Way. " Jessy shared stepping from the shower, adding, "It's all yours." "If it was me, I'd be sneaking over as soon as lights were out." Chele shared as she stepped into the shower. "Sneaking huh? Hey why don't we.." Jessy said before disappearing into her room. "What? Jessy?" Chele called out then peeked her head out to find she was alone. She quickly finished her shower and headed out to find her sister at the computer keyboard. "What was that about?" Chele asked. "Well you said sneaking and my little mind started spinning. At Sixth Grade Camp the guys tried to scare us girls. You see one of them brought this tape of a wolf howling and they thought we'd all get scared but we all knew there weren't wolves around here maybe coyotes but no wolves. Backfired big time cuz we got waterballoons and made them really sorry." Jessy shared. "So you're online tracking down the howl of a what?" Chele asked giggling as she opened a dresser drawer and helped herself to something to wear. "Man I love having a sister." Chele said pulling on a pair of shorts and tank. "You would think I'd be thrilled to, but I keep losing my clothes. At least they show back up after the laundry's done." Jessy teased making the tape. The two slipped on shoes and snuck downstairs heading out the front, making their way along the road past the bunkhouses and the headed in through the woods. They sat quietly a distance away trying to figure out who was in what bunk and when they found the girls' bunkhouse, they entered through the back door. "Momma the girls." Avie started to say as Jessy and Chele sushed her. "Hey sweetie, whisper okay. We're going to play a joke on the guys." Jessy shared. "What kind of a joke?" Diana whispered and Chele explained. Everyone started to giggle, "Sssh" Jessy whispered, adding, "Mom H they'll probably come over to protect you, you know how men are." "Get real. They'll come to be protected you mean." Diana shared laughing. "Okay the chickens will come like they always do. Anyway it's a coyote, not a wolf because we don't have wolves around her except the domestic kind. Coyotes don't like human contact so if they came there would be nothing to worry about unless you're a chicken." Jessy shared giggling before they headed out. "Why don't we go to bed. Make them wake us up, now you to remember to get scared like you would if you didn't know, okay girls?" Diana said and they headed to bed turning of the light. "Looks like the girls turned in guys." Walker said as he stirred the bon fire. "They're girls what do you expect." Zac replied. "That chauvinistic pig." Jessy whispered. "Sssh he'll hear you Sis. He sure is into you. I noticed he followed you every where tonight with a sad puppy dog face every time you picked up Mackie or Zoe. A couple of times I thought I saw him holding your hand and once I thought I saw him rub your butt." Chele asked. "Sssh Taylor will hear you. He sure is all over you. Oops I mean he sure is into you too." Jessy teased laughing. "Sssh" Chele said giving her a shove and she toppled over breaking a branch under the pine trees where they were hiding. "Sssh." Chele said as she laid on the ground as the flashlight's beam passed over them. "Did you hear that?" Zac asked turning back when he didn't see anything. "Real brave." Jessy whispered picking up the branch and tossing it off to the left of them. "There it is again. Did you hear it?" Zac asked again turning the flashlight back on. "You're paranoid boy, sit down and relax." Walker replied. "Come on Chicken boy." Taylor teased as Isaac made chicken sounds. "How perfect." Chele whispered as Jessy played the tape. "What was that?" they asked in unison, all standing and turning on flashlights, flooding the woods. Chele picked up a rock and rolled it across the dried pine needles. "Cool sound effect sis." Jessy whispered playing the tape again. "Over there." Walker said turning his flashlight in the direction of Chele's rock. "That's right get that rock." Jessy whispered. "Sssh." Chele said swatting her. "Let's both throw a rock and make them think it's more than one." she shared. "You're bad sis." Jessy said and they both rolled a rock in a different direction. 'There." Isaac said turning his light. "No over there." Taylor insisted turning his light in the opposite direction. "There's three of them." Zac replied. "Three what?" Isaac asked. "I don't know wolf?" Zac replied. "Wolves that would be." Taylor shared. "Let's go back to the campfire, I don't think they like fire." Walker shared as they all turned and headed back. Jessy fast forwarded to the pack sounds she had recorded along with a few growls and they all picked up their pace, finally running back to the campfire. "I can't believe they didn't mention wolves in the neighborhood you know. I think that's something you would tell a visitor." Walker shared looking back to the woods. "Man there is so much wildlife around here Jessy is like so used to it. Me I'm going Jessy what's that, over and over. We saw foxes, wild turkeys, pheasants that weren't under glass." Zac shared and started laughing. "Real funny." Isaac teased. "What did the fox look like?" Walker asked. "Like a dog with a bushy tail but he was small. Lots smaller than I'd thought you know. He was pretty." Zac answered. "Did she say anything about wolves?" Walker asked. "No dad, she just pointed out things she saw. She took me to the thicket and showed me a couple of baby deer. They're so used to her, when I stepped on a branch and it snapped, they didn't run away." Zac shared. "Wow that must have been cool." Taylor said sighing. "Awww he's so sensitive." Chele whispered. "And a good kisser too." Jessy teased playing the tape again. "There it is again." Zac said turning on his flashlight and searching the woods for something moving. As the light passed Jessy rose and sprinted off circling the bunkhouses and playing the tape from a different place. After the light beam passed over her, she sprinted back to Chele playing the tape again before racing around behind the girls' bunkhouse and playing the tape. "That's getting to close for comfort." Walker said walking towards the girls' bunkhouse. "Diana. Diana wake up." Walker said rapping on the door. "Yes dear. What is it?" Diana yawned opening the door, adding, "You miss me huh?" "Did you hear that?" Walker asked. "What? I didn't hear anything but you waking me up, knocking on the door and calling my name." Diana answered placing her hand on his forehead adding, "You okay dear?" "What did I miss?" Jessy whispered as she returned. "Mrs H is having a blast with him." Chele answered rolling another rock. "Did you hear that?" Zac asked again turning on his flashlight and searching the woods. "Chicken boy." Jessy whispered and they both picked up and rock and sent them rolling in different directions from the light. "They're moving again." he shared as Isaac and Taylor joined his light with theirs. Jessy turned down the volume and played the tape. "They must be leaving, I can hardly hear them." Isaac shared, calling out to their father. "I didn't hear anything." Diana insisted. "Just listen." Walker pleaded as Diana grabbed a blanket to wrap around herself and followed Walker towards the boys. "What's this all about." she asked. "Mom there's wolves out there." Zac said turning his flashlight towards the woods almost catching Jessy and Chele dashing towards the back of the girls' bunkhouse. "That was close." Chele whispered as they stopped in the woods behind the bunkhouse and Jessy played the tape again "They're behind us now. I thought I heard them running. There's lots of them Dad." Zac said moving closer to his mother. "There goes chicken boy. Save me mommy." Chele whispered. "Told you mom, wolves, a bunch of them." Zac insisted. "Zachary Walker Hanson don't you pay attention in school. There are no wild wolves in this part of the country son." Diana shared. "There aren't?" Walker asked. "Walker Hanson. This is embarassing. Do you all think that's a wolf?" Diana asked shaking her head. "Then what is it Mom?" Zac asked. "I would have to guess a coyote but I wouldn't think there'd be a big enough food supply to support them. Barbara has so few chickens and no turkies." Diana explained . "Turkies? There's lots of wild turkies out back. Jessy showed them to me, even babies." Zac replied."Well then we have coyotes I would say." Diana said heading back to her bunkhouse. "Aren't you concerned dear?" Walker asked. "Of what, they like chickens and I'm no chicken but you guys, that's another story." Diana said bursting into laughter. "Diana Hanson what are you laughing at?" Walker asked. "Coyote bait." Diana answered turning back and pointing at them. "You'll be first chicken boy." Isaac teased giving him a shove. "Nah take a look at those chicken legs." Zac said grabbing Taylor's leg and trying to pull the pant leg up. "Enough with the leg cracks." Taylor argued putting a wrestling hold on Zac. "Oh no you don't." Zac called out pinning him to the ground. "I'm the winner." Isaac declared jumping on top of the pile. "Now you're brave." Walker teased as the heard the howl one more time as Jessy and Chele waltzed out of the woods. "Hey guys, what's up?" Jessy asked, adding, "If that's tag team, who's the fourth?" "Don't look at me." Walker insisted, adding, "Girls what are you doing?" "Out protecting our baby turkies. We're realy not suppose to help, the DNR asked us to let natured takes it's course but I just can't stand to lose my babies so every night at dusk I walk around the property playing a tape of a coyote's howl so Momma Turkey hides her babies." Jessy answered loving the look on their faces. As the guys burst into laughter, "What's wrong with the guys Mr. H?" Chele asked trying hard not to laugh. "Well dear if you don't need me for anything else, girls I'll see you in the morning." Diana said heading to her bunkhouse, dragging Walker along. "So what you doing still up?" Jessy asked pulling Zac to his feet once Isaac got off of them. "Just sitting around the fire, talking." Zac answered wrapping his arms around her, kissing her deeply. "I've wanted to do that all night. Every single time I got close to you, you were off picking up Mackie or Zoe." Zac pouted. "Poor baby. Did I ignore you?" Jessy asked caressing his face. "You going to help me up?" Taylor asked staring at Chele. "You're dirty. Down there laying on the ground, rolling like some pig in the mud or something." Chele teased. "I am not." Taylor pouted. "Oh all right but if you get me dirty, you got to clean it up." Chele insisted. "Man now I'm getting you dirty." Taylor replied smiling. "Well then I'll just leave you right there." Chele shared walking away. "I was only teasing baby. Don't leave." Taylor said getting up and chasing after her. "Walk me home?" Chele asked. "My pleasure." Taylor answered wrapping an arm around her, heading up towards the house. "I better go to Zac. Don't want to be tired tomorrow and miss out." Jessy said, adding, "Night Ike." "Night Jessy, sleep tight. Big day tomorrow." Isaac replied kissing Jessy's cheek. They walked hand in hand until they were out of sight and Zac pulled her off into the woods, wrapping her in his arms and kissing her deeply. "Zac." Jessy moaned as he kissed her harder and longer. "Jessy I missed you so." Zac said as Jessy pulled away from their kiss. "Me too Zac. I wasn't ignoring you, but I just didn't want Momma to know how much I like you yet. If she knew Zac I don't thik she'd let me go with you tomorrow." Jessy explained. "I figured as much babe." Zac said as his hand caressed her butt. As he pulled her into him, Jessy moaned his name again. "Oh Zac I want you so bad. What am I going to do?" Jessy asked. "I don't know babe, I was wondering the same thing. I think I'll die if I can't have you." Zac said kissing her passionately. "That's no help. We want each other desperately. How will we every make it." Jessy pleaded to know, laying her head on his shoulder. "I don't know babe, all I know is I can't lose you Jessy." Zac shared holding her tighter kissing the top of her head, adding, "I better get you to bed so I can get to bed and say a prayer for us." "Oh Zac, I'll pray for us too. He has to hear us." Jessy said as they made their way to house. "Sleep tight Jessy." Zac said kissing her deeply, adding, "I'll see you in my dreams." Chele and Taylor joined them coming out of the barn and soon the girls headed upstairs. "Do you hear that?" Jessy called to her sister. "Hear what?" Chele asked entering her room. "Oh Sis look, they're serenading us" Jessy shared pointing out the window to the guys below, Isaac with his guitar, as they sang 'With You In Your Dreams' to the girls. When they finished, they wished them goodnight again and headed to the bunkhouse.
