You Never Know

Part One

The school year had just ended and Jessy sat staring out the window of the bus unaffected by the chaos around her. The paper footballs, screaming, paper wads and even the complaints didn't seem to bother her today. She thought about the summer, the fair, wishing Hanson would finish their promotional tour and tour like they did in 98. "You Never Know" Jessy mumbled as she pulled out her personal CD player and plugged into their new album 'This Time Around'. " "Jessy. Jessy." Larry called out tapping her shoulder getting her attention. "Jessy what's with the trucks?" he asked pointing in the distance at her house. "Oh that. We're moving." Jessy answered. "Moving? Why didn't you say something sooner?" he asked joined by several others with the same question. "No big deal. It's only eight miles. We're moving into one of the other farms my uncle owns so were closer is all." Jessy answered as the bus slowed she added, "I'm not sure but I know we're taking school of choice, at least I am and we're going to catch the bus at your place most likely. I've got a special farm drivers license now and I'll just drive to your place. Didn't your Mom say anything, I know she knows." "My Mom tell me. Hah you make me laugh. Damn girl, you're driving before me and I'm 4 years older." Larry complained. "So. Girls are smarter." Jessy teased. "That ain't it. Your Mom is cool. Shit you've been driving forever, it's about time you were licensed." Larry said. "I told you she said she'd take you down to get your license." Jessy said as the bus pulled to a stop and she got up and made her way to the front saying her goodbyes. "Pick your truck. I got them all packed. We're out of here." Barbara said as she crossed the road. "I'm not driving the flat bed, the brakes are too good and I sail into the window at every stop. I'll drive the corn truck." Jessy answered heading to the grain truck with the ear of corn painted on the box, throwing in her backpack and she followed her mother to their new place. Ten minutes later her mother backed up to the back door so she backed up to the front door, her younger brother Sam hopping out and guiding her in. "I'm not moving into my room until it's painted." Jessy called out through the house to her mother. "Already done. Your favorite fellas finished it this morning." Barbara called back. "Kenny and Trevor were here?" Jessy asked racing through the house to see her mother's face, she could always tell when she was lying. "Wow the whole place is painted." Jessy said making it through the house. "Yep. Tom sent the whole crew this morning and then they packed us up before they headed to the job sight. "My room better be black. You prosmised." Jessy said racing up the stairs. "It's the wrong room." she screamed looking in the room next to hers, "Momma." she sighed. "What I can't have a black room?" Chele asked. "Aaaahhhh! Oh my God Sis." Jessy screamed as the tears began to fall. The two hugged each other tight as they cried. "Jessy I didn't know how to tell you, so I figured I'd let Sis." Barbara said staring at the girls with the biggest smile. "Momma convinced my Mom to let me move in with you guys, that is if it's okay with you guys." Chele explained through the tears. "Welcome Sis. It's about time you came to see us. Living with us is even better." Josh said as Chele gasped. "Your voice, it's so deep. And when did this happen?" she asked as he hugged her. "Hey I want one." Sam complained as he grinned at her. "Wow you are a heart breaker. Look at that dimple." Chele fussed over him. "Aww cut it out." Sam complained as he hugged her. "Well since your moving in, welcome to the family." Sam said as he ripped one. "Jesus Sam when did you die." Barbara choked out as she started to cough. "Man you should wear a toxic hazard warning sign boy." Chele shared as she gasped for air. "Well the guys will be here to help unload so I could use some help in the kitchen. Josh and Sam unloaded boxes while the girls laughed and giggled their way through making supper. "Smells great in here. Sure am glad I decided to help." Trevor said carrying in boxes from the truck out front, adding, "This says Jessy so your room?" "Thanks Trevor. Umm have you met Sis yet?" Jessy asked. "Yeah Jessy, she helped paint your room. Umm she's as pretty as her sister isn't she?" Trevor answered causing Chele to blush. "I was thinking of asking her out, what do you think?" Trevor asked looking at Jessy. "If you weren't so much older than me, you know I'd go out with you." Jessy replied. "But he is that much older than you. Now my weird one here, she's older than Jessy and not that much younger than you that I'd have a problem with it." Barbara shared as Trevor headed up the stairs. As the other workers showed, they quickly had the trucks emptied and parked out by the barn. "Man I didn't pick up any chips. Trevor be a sweetie and run the girls to the station so they can get some munchies. Chele baby, there's money in my purse, right behind you." Barbara asked. "I'll show you where she keeps the moola." Jessy squealed opening her mother's purse. "This we can get into, but don't touch this. It's her mad money and boy does she get mad." Jessy teased as an oven mitt hit her in the back of the head. "Hand me that broom, I'll show her mad." Barbara squealed as they rushed from the house. "Aunt Barb. Aunt Barb." Drew called entering the front door. "Drew. Drew." Barbara called back. "Hey what you doing here?" Drew asked Kenny, Dustin and the rest of the workers. "We moved Aunt Barb in okay Bub?" Kenny asked. "You hungry Drew?" Barbara asked. "Aunt Barb Jessy said tell you if you want to be mad just be mad." Drew shared and the room roared. They christened the house even making it outside for a bon fire as they were surrounded by friends and family. "So my weird one. Did he ask you out? And if so what did you say?" Barbara asked. "Ummm yes and yes. Trevor seems awfully nice." Chele answered. "Nice he is, but I've never dated him." Barbara replied. "That's good. He's older than I thought but I still think we'll have a good time. Don't you?" Chele asked. "You know you can do anything you put your pretty little mind to and that includes having a good time, having fun." Barbara said. "Oh Momma, I'm going to love it here. You know how much I love you right?" Chele asked her eyes filling with tears. "Yeah I know baby girl. You just remember that's how much I love you and I only want the best for you. You put that pretty little mind to work at having a great life from now on." Barbara said smiling at her. "I will Momma. I just know I will." Chele replied. Over the next few weeks, Chele completed her first phase of Drivers Training through Sears and was now among a driver not passenger and she also had her special license to drive for farm business. She loved the horses and cows and was really enjoying country life. "Now that morning chores are done, let's clean up and head to the Mall for the day." Barbara said one rainy Saturday morning. "Yes. Watch out Arcade here I come." Josh cheered. "We have to stop at the bank. I want some new sandals and a bathing suit." Jessy insisted. "I have something for each of you." Barbara said heading for her purse. "Here. Debit cards for your accounts so we don't have to stop at the bank. It's your money but I'd prefer you not to spend it all." she said passing out the cards giving each a motherly glare. "Here Chele. I set up an account for you too. Tom gave you a bonus, welcome to the family and such a hard worker she is he said." Barbara explained and they were soon all dressed, loaded into the van and making their way to the Mall. They started out as group but soon went their separate ways, the girls shopping and the guys to the Arcade. Barbara made her way to a few stores and then picked up a new book and found a bench. The boys appeared around lunchtime and they headed out looking for the girls. "I spy." Barbara said pointing to the group of guys surrounding the girls. "What else?" she said before whistling getting their attention. "Sorry that's for us, we have to go." Jessy explained and the two headed to the escalators both receiving numerous phone numbers. "Here Momma, these are for you." Jessy said, adding, "Maybe not this one." and she retrieved one of the numbers. "So did you see anything worthwhile or not?" Barbara asked of Chele. "Not really. Kind of young. Kind of old, kind of young. Isn't anyone just right?" Chele whined. The afternoon went about the same, the boys in the arcade and the girls surrounded by guys everywhere they went. On the ride home the girls decided to have a trail ride, inviting a few friends. Once home they quickly called a few friends and plans were made for the next day.
