Today was a perfect day. A day no one, not even the grumpiest of the grumpy, could live with a frown upon their wrinkled pale faces. The sun shined over every crevice, dip, and ripple of the land and water. Not a
single cloud blocked it's view of the entire earth, today. Not one. Waves crashing ashore echoed over the chirping of the seagulls and the funloving voices of children playing in the water. They simply couldn't believe they had made it there in one piece.
"Wow is right. There is no way I could not have fun in this place. I think this vacatin is going to do us well," Barbara said full of spirit. She hadn't sounded so happy in years. Maybe this was just the time she needed; a time away from her boys, the farm, the men; everything. "God, Barbara, we're going to have a blast. No boys, no animals sounding in the middle of the night, and most of all, no time to be a grump," Chele laughed for the first time. "Totally," Jessy echoed smiling like she never had. "It's just beautiful," they all mumbled to eachother while driving further and further down this narrowing, now one-laned road. The homes were huge, eachone
with at least 6 bedrooms, 3 baths, and a swimming pool. At least that's what the girls could make by counting the windows.
Barbara pulled the directions to their new vacation home off of the dashboard of the car, and read them carefully while gentilly applying the brake as she came up to, what she believed, was the home they would be living in for the next month. She couldn't believe her eyes; a three-story pale yellow house with a wrap around porch, two sings, a flower garden, and a pool. Pulling the paper further from her face then back to it, Barbara scratched at her eyes. This could not be real. "Oh my goodness, is this the house we're staying in," Jessy's voice squealed out. "No freakin way," Chele added to her friends disbelief. "Young lady, what did I tell you about that word," Barbara corrected. "Sorry Barb," Chele quietly apologized while lipping the same words again. "What did I just say," Barbara echoed herself. "Geez...you really have the mother thing down pat, huh," giggled Chele. "You
betcha. Don't you think I won't wash your mouth out with soap," her stern voice echoed again. "Sorry," she apologized once more.
All three sat in disbelief for what was about an hour. It just wasn't possible that this was the house that Barbara's friend had loaned them for the month. True, it was exactly how the woman had described it, but her
words did no justice. Barbara unbuckled her safety belt, stepped from the car, and inspected the mailbox. After a good 15 minutes of her staring at the mailbox, then the paper, Barbara turned toward the house, rested her hands
upon her hips, and shook her head in amazement. "I just can't believe this. How could I have missed the 3 story house part from Anitra. This is just amazing. I'll have to remind myself to write her a very greatful thank you
note, once we're home. If we ever decide to go back home," she mumbled to herself. By now, Chele and Jessy had joined Barbara. Both puzzled by what Barbara was saying, they evilly began to snicker and immate her.
"Alright, alright. Enough of making fun of the old, insane lady. Let's get a move on it. Do you want to stand out here and look at it the whole month or do you actually want to enjoy yourselves?" With that the girls ran to the car, Jessy pulling it up through the driveway, while Chele gathered the trash from their early breakfast. Once pulled in the driveway, Barbara pulled the door to the garage up, and motioned them in. "Let's get moved in!" They all said full of energy.
Two hours later, they were moved in. Each girl having a room on the second floor, but in separate sections of the hall. Not only did each girl have their own bedroom fully furnished, but they also had a fully equipped bathroom including a stand-up shower, a jet bathtub, two sinks, and a wall complete with mirrors. Astonished by the beauty of the house, Barbara, Chele, and Jessy separately roamed around the floors. This way they could fully enjoy the beach and pool the rest of the time they were there instead of going through the house in amazement.
"This is just unbelievable." Chele said standing at the bottom of the stairs. "Unbelievable is right," Barbara replied. "It's so unbelievable. I think we could do just about anything, and meet just about anyone," Jessy excitedly echoed them. "Like..meeting Hanson," she added with a loud squeal. "Yeh..right. Like that will ever happen," Chele mumbled with a soft voice. "What'd you say, sweety," Barbara asked running her hand over Chele's back. "Ohhh..nothing....it was nothing," Chele stuttered. "C'mon...today we'll stay inside, and tomorrow will make a day of the beach," Jessy said taking the other side of Chele and walking toward the T.V. Room. "This is going to be so great, Barb. I can feel it," Chele smiled and hugged them both.
