"Morning Miss Jessy. Or should I say Mrs To Be Jessy?" the mission Director greeted. "Morning Dave. How did you know?" Jessy asked hanging up her backpack and donning an apron. "You are in the newspaper this morning. Front page of the locals but your engagement is in every paper." Dave explained. "Really. Oh my." Jessy gasped suddenly aware of who Zac was. "You okay Jessy?" Dave asked making his way to her, adding, "You seem suddenly pale."Silly. I guess I just really realized who Zac was. You know Zac Hanson of Hanson." Jessy answered. "Of the Hanson Family you mean. Around here that speaks volumes." Dave shared. "They were out in force last night. I had no idea what was going on. Totally clueless." Jessy shared giggling. "That is funny. You clueless." Dave chuckled as she started making biscuits, adding, "It is a special day, she makes biscuits."There go over so well and we're short on eggs again. You know there is a egg farm north of town. I wonder if they could help." Jessy said dusting of her hands and heading to a telephone. "What's that smile for?" Dave asked as she returned. "Sunrise Farms will be happy to help. They're sending a truck this way right away. Here is their number and they said anytime you need eggs, just call them." Jessy explained handing over a piece of paper with names and a number. "You are amazing." Dave declared, teasing, "We're still having biscuits right?" "I have to now that I poured out the flour." Jessy teased back. "So when are we losing you?" Dave asked. "What? You're not losing me just because I'm getting married. I was going with Zac before I ever started working here and it didn't cause problems did it?" Jessy replied. "If it were only so simple. Dear I'm afraid this formal declaration will change things." Dave insisted. "I hope not. If it does you know I won't do anything that will jeopardize what you're doing here." Jessy answered aware again of what it meant to be Mrs Zachary Hanson. "That does it for me today." Jessy shared stopping in the office after completing her tasks. "Thanks again for finding us an egg outlet. You are attending the "Volunteer of The Year" Award dinner next week right?" Dave asked. "Daddy says I must attend. Seeings I'm going to be a Hanson, I'm expected to act like one already. You know lose graciously." Jessy answered. "I doubt if you'll lose Jessy. My contacts tell me you are a shoe in." Dave shared. "Really? You're kidding me right?" Jessy gasped "I suggest you write an acceptance speech." Dave said as Jessy made her way out of the Mission and home. "Mom. Mom is Zac here? He's not at the house." Jessy asked entering the Hanson home. "Morning sweetie. Done at the Mission already?" Diana replied, explaining, "Walker and the boys are in the office discussing your engagement with Chris. It appears it has been picked up nationwide." "Oh great." Jessy moaned, asking, "Do you mind if I hang out with you? The house just isn't the same without Zac in it." "I love you spending time with me. Of course I don't mind." Diana insisted, adding, "Let's start with what is troubling you." "You always know." Jessy sighed before explaining her discussion with Dave at the Mission. "You know your father was told the same thing. You know that you're a shoe in to win." Diana exclaimed proudly. "Mom he suggested I write an acceptance speech." Jessy shared, mumbling, "I have no idea what to say." "I'm sure your father can help you. I'm no good at public speaking." Diana suggested, adding, "Why don't you just get comfy in your favorite spot with pen and paper and just write what comes to you when you think about receiving such an honor." "You are so good at being a Mom. Thanks for taking me on." Jessy squealed hugging her before grabbing a pen and paper from the desk then heading to the deck sit in her favorit rattan egg shaped swinging chair. "It appears the house isn't the same without you." Diana whispered as the men reappeared. "What?" Zac asked, thinking over what she said, adding, "She here?" "Yes son. I sent her out to her favorite spot to work on an acceptance speech for the Award dinner next week. It appears Dave at the Mission has been told the same thing your father heard, that she was a sure thing." Diana explained, turning to her husband, "Dear she's a little flustered over the thought of speaking publicly and you know how I dread it. Could you talk to her?" "Our little girl 'Volunteer of the Year'. Tulsa's first." Walker shared proudly heading toward the deck. "I didnt tell you where she was." Diana teased. "You said her favorite spot. That would be the rattan chair if I know my Daddy duties." Walker chuckled making his was out onto the deck, greeting, "Morning sweetie." "Daddy. Just the man I need according to Mom." Jessy sighed sharing her morning. Mom was right and in no time the smile had returned to Jessy's face. "Well there's my smile. I told you he could help didn't I?" Diana said bringing them something to drink. "You were right Mom. I can do this, I know I can." Jessy exclaimed. "That's my girl." Diana replied kissing the top of her head, adding, "Want an audience?" "Sure. Thanks for volunteering to be put to sleep." Jessy teased rising, moving back a little then facing them. Jessy studied her handwritten notes, took a deep breath, "Thank you. I am truly honored. Mr. Mayor, Members of the City Council, Distinguished guests and my fellow peers, I thank you for the honor you have bestowed upon me. "Volunteer Of The Year" I still don't believe it. A wise man asked me a very simple question and suggested that I share the answer with you. He asked me why I volunteered? My first response was because I had the time and then added that I was fortunate enough to be able to volunteer. A few questions later he had me realizing that even though I am special to him and others, that I, "Volunteer of the Year", am not that special. I do what many other Americans do without thinking, without being asked to, and on the most part without reward. I am an American. Of that I am proud. On behalf of the millions of selfless American volunteers who give of themselves, I thank you for this recognition." "Wonderful. Wonderful. Walker you are truly amazing. She was so sure she could not do this and just look at what she did." Diana praised, standing and clapping. "Very nice Babe." Zac said standing in the doorway with his brothers, all of them applauding. "Well Daddy what do you think?" Jessy asked gazing at him. "I didn't think I could be more proud. You are just amazing." Walker said as he stood and began clapping. "Thanks Daddy. I couldn't have done it without you." Jessy squealed racing his way, throwing her arms around him. "I say this is deserving of a treat. How about ice cream?" Walker suggested. "Mmmm." Jessy moaned. "I agree Dad, mmmm." Zac said making his way to them. "Me mmm too." Zoe squealed. "Let's go get your father Diana." Walker suggested. "Me PaPa too." Zoe squealed dancing in delight. "My Grampa." Jessy squealed joining Zoe's dance. "My Daddy." Diana squealed joining the two girls. "Dad will love this. Good one Isaac. Hope you got it all." Walker exclaimed. "What? Oh no." Jessy gasped pointing at Isaac. "Clark Isaac Hanson you didn't?" Diana squealed. "Yeah and I got that too Mom. Grampa is going to love this. I started shooting so he could see his Jessy but you and Zoe put the icing on the cake." Isaac answered still shooting. "You put that thing away now young man." Diana insisted, waving, adding, "We love you Daddy." "Come on sweetie, us girls will go pick up Daddy and meet them at the Sugar Bear." Diana squealed picking up Zoe, heading out. "So you're going with Mom huh?" Zac pouted. "Yeah unless you go tell her I'm not." Jessy answered. "I have no death wish. I just got engaged. I have everything to live for." Zac declared, adding, "You better run and catch up with her." "What's the rush. I don't get to drive anyway." Jessy moaned rolling her eyes. "Maybe I'll ride with Diana. I think my wife enjoys driving that sports car of yours a little too much." Walker suggested. "Of ours. Did he say of ours?" Zac asked ducking. "Did she hear? Do you see her coming?" Jessy squealed hiding behind Zac. "You better watch it Dad. Don't be saying the car is anyone's but Mom's. She's got the keys to prove it. Believe me I've been shown the error of my ways." Taylor explained. "Do you mind sweetie?" Walker asked. "Of course not Daddy. Go enjoy." Jessy answered. "We can take Zoe if you want Dad?" Zac offered following him out the front door. "The two of us alone. Whoa." Walker moaned. "What is it dear?" Diana asked putting the top down. "I had asked Jessy if she minded my taking her placing. Then Zac offered to take Zoe. The two of us alone." Walker explained, pointing at the car, moaning, "In that." "Tell you what. We'll take Zoe. We'll go get Grampa. We'll go get ice cream. If we see you there fine, if not, just enjoy." Zac said making his way to the car and getting his sister and her car seat before heading to the family van. "There you go lil sis, all buckled and ready to go. Anyone else need help buckling up?" Jessy asked checking the girls, then turning to check Mackie. "You can help me." Zac teased sitting next to Mackie. "You sure are a big boy." Jessy teased back. "You love big boys don't you?" Zac teased. "Uh huh." Jessy sighed leaning his way grabbing the seat beat, moaning as she put it on him, adding, "I'm sitting with Natalie as long as Tay's up front." "What? No babe." Zac moaned. "Please Zac?" Jessy asked. "Oh okay." Zac moaned. "Thanks." Jessy said kissing him sweetly before moving to the rear seat. "Thanks Zac." Natalie shared from the rear seat. "So you really think you can do this wedding thing for me and not hate me for it?" Jessy asked taking the seat next to her. "I'd love to. Honest Jessy. Zac didn't ask, I offered." Natalie answered. "That's true babe. When I told them about the surprise engagement, Nat offered to help with the wedding right then. I think she's been doing some things already. Her and Mom." "Really?" Jessy asked turning to Natalie. "Yeah Jessy we have. Please be honest with me if you don't like something or think I'm stepping over the bounds." Natalie pleaded. "No way. There are no bounds as far as I'm concerned. Natalie I have not one clue of what has to happen or what I have to get besides Zac, a groom and me, a bride." Jessy squealed leaning forward, placing her hands on Zac's shoulders, moanaing, "Can't we just do this at home in our bluejeans?" "Fine by me." Zac answered. "No way." Natalie squealed. "Why not?" Jessy moaned, pouting, "Zac doesn't care." "Because my wife and my mother are looking forward to doing all this la de da stuff for you. So just shutup and enjoy it." Taylor complained. "I will do no such thing." Jessy grumbled, repeating to herself over and over 'Taylor Hanson told me to shutup' as she got madder and madder. "Ignore him Jessy." Natalie whispered, patting her hand before adding loudly, "Taylor Hanson you are about the rudest human being I've ever met. Why on earth did I marry you? You know the first time we met you had made some totally rude comment. How dumb can I be? How could I let you sweet talk me after seeing the true you?" "Sweet talk you? You have that turned around, you were all over me baby. No way was I after anything but a good time that night." Taylor snapped. "You what? How dare you." Natalie screamed. "Stop please stop. I didn't mean for this to happen." Jessy pleaded pulling Natalie back down onto the seat. "Bro you better apologize. That was low even for you." Isaac whispered smacking Taylor. "I will not. I'm tired of all this it's my fault." Taylor grumbled. "She looks hurt bro." Isaac said watching in the rearview mirror. "Good she deserves it." Taylor replied turning and staring out the side window. "Nat he didn't mean it. I think he PMS's more than any girl I've ever known." Jessy teased. "PMS's?" Zac said turning around. "Well what else can it be? Ever since I met him he's been on my back or down my throat about every three weeks. He's more regular than you Nat." Jessy teased. "Jessy." Natalie squealed. "What?" Jessy asked wondering what was up. "Zac." Natalie said nodding at him but looking away. "Zac. Yeah that's Zac. What about him?" Jessy asked still confused. "He's listening." Natalie whispered. "Duh! The whole van is listening probably quite intentively by now. What's your point?" Jessy asked looking at Zac for answers. "I don't know babe." Zac whispered shrugging his shoulders. "She's embarassed that you're talking about her having periods in front Zac." Taylor blurted out. "No." Jessy gasped staring at Natalie knowing it was true by her reaction, adding, "Oh Nat everybody in here.. well maybe not Zoe yet but all of talk openly about it. It's a fact of life. Little girls grow into women and when we do we have periods. Yucky, Icky, Messy periods so that someday when you fall in love with Mr Right here..." "I love you too babe." Zac whispered as Jessy carresed his face. "You get married first Jessy. Remember." Mackie blurted out. "Oh that's right. You fall in love with Mr Right, marry him and then you can have his baby." Jessy squealed, adding, "Don't tell Mommy and Daddy I forgot that part okay bud?" "I keep reminding you." Mackie sighed. "Thanks bud. She's has a hard time remembering that." Zac declared turning to high five his brother. "I what?" Jessy squealed, whispering, "I won't anymore." "Oops." Zac said scooting down in his seat. "Like I don't see you." Jessy grumbled. "You can't. I'm hiding right bud?" Zac teased putting his hands in front of his face. "Me hide too." Mackie said putting his hands in front of his face. "Hey where did Mackie and Zac go?" Isaac teased looking in the rearview mirror. "Okay someone let me in on it please?" Natalie asked shaking her head no. "Not me. You're it." Jessy said unbuckling her seatbelt moving to the side door, tapping Taylor on the shoulder before opening the door as the van came to a stop at a stoplight. "Move it Taylor that's my place now." Jessy declared opening the passenger door. "You better move it bro, I ain't waiting on your slow butt to move." Isaac teased as he slipped from his seat and Jessy hopped in buckling up. "You're a goofball kiddo." Isaac laughed. "Move it Taylor light's about to change." Jessy warned as Taylor finally stepped in the side door. "And wee're off." Isaac squealed as he accelerated watching Taylor stumble to the back and Zac lean over to close the slider, adding as he laughed, "We all buckled up now?" "You okay girls?" Jessy turned to ask as they all squealed and laughed. "That was crazy." Avery squealed. "Essy funny." Zoe squealed. "You are so much fun." Jessie added. "I am fun and I am funny." Jessy said making silly faces. "Me got one." Mackie said making a silly face. "Did you see that. Whoa." Jessy squealed pointing at him. "Do it again Mackie?" Avery asked turning in her seat. "She's right that is a good one. How do you do that?" Zac asked and they were all practicing funny faces. "Mr Sweet Talker strikes again." Isaac whispered nodding to the back where Taylor and Natalie were busy making out. "Yeah I saw. Now I regret trading places." Jessy whispered back. "She had it right for a minute though. Maybe she'll remember again some day." Isaac whispered. "LIke after they've had children. Whoopie." Jessy moaned turning to look out the side window. "Jessy." Zac, Mackie, Avery, Jessie and Zoe called. "What?" Jessy asked turning back around quickly engulfed in laughter at the sight of five silly faces. "We got her good." Jessie squealed. "Ha ha." Mackie squealed. "You guys are terrible." Jessy moaned still laughing hysterically. "Man you better step on it Ike. She's going to have to pee big time when she's done laughing." Zac warned. "Just a few more blocks. Don't stop laughing yet." Isaac teased, adding, "I ain't wearing my high water pants." "Me no got no rubber boots." Mackie teased. "Stop. Stop it. Zac." Jessy squealed. "We're on Grampa's block babe it'll be okay." Zac answered quickly getting out and opening the passenger door as the van came to a stop. "God I hope he's home Mom has my keys." Jessy moaned as he helped her out. "Kids what a nice surprise." Grampa Lawyer said making his way to the front porch. "Hi my Grampa. Bye my Grampa." Jessy whispered pecking his cheek, then hurrying inside. "Care to explain?" Grampa Lawyer asked. "We were cutting up a little." Zac started to explain. "A little!" Natalie gasped, adding, "They were down right ruthless. All five of them making silly faces at her." "Well.. maybe we went a little overboard." Zac added with a chuckle. "Ahhh. Hi my Grampa." Jessy said rejoining the group and hugging him. "So they were picking on you huh?" Grampa Lawyer asked. "Did you show him the face?" Jessy asked. "On three. One. Two. Three." Zac said and they all made silly faces. "Whoa. Eww! You have to remember I'm and old man. That.. that...that's scary." Grampa Lawyer teased and they all laughed. "So did you invite him?" Jessy asked. "Invite me where? I was wondering why you drove all this way to make silly faces at me." Grampa Lawyer teased. "Me PaPa me ice cream." Zoe squealed reaching to be picked up. "Oh my what a wonderful idea. Ice cream my favorite. Mmmm." Grampa Lawyer squealed picking her up holding her high before hugging her tight. "Here Grampa I got to show you this first. It'll explain why we're here." Isaac said pulling a tape from one of the pockets of his board shorts. "Oh no you brought it." Jessy moaned hiding her face with her hands. "Where did Jessy go?" Zac teased. "Me hide too." Mackie teased hiding his face. "Hey you never filled me in on this." Natalie said placing her hands in front of her face. "I can't now you're gone." Taylor teased. "Oh the precious Zoe story. Don't mind if I do." Grampa Lawyer said wrapping an arm around Natalie's shoulder before sharing the day when Zoe played hide'n'seek with the big kids for the first time. Not knowing any other way, she played like she had always played peek-a-boo with her mother and stood there as the rest of the children raced off to hide, hidden only behind her hands. "As Zac finally counted off and declared ready or not, 'boo' our baby girl said." Grampa Lawyer finished. "I almost pulled a Jessy." Zac teased. "So you almost wet your pants huh?" Taylor teased. "You be careful there Mr Jordan Taylor Hanson. For your information, I have not wet myself since I was fourteen months old. Don't you wish you could say that." Jessy teased back, standing in front of him glaring. "Your mother told me. Difficult to say the least." Natalie teased. "Try embarassing." Isaac teased."What happened? We're back to Joran calling." Grampa Lawyer whispered leaning towards Zac. "I'm not sure if I know. It's either the stress or the fact that Natalie is her friend now." Zac replied standing in front of his grandfather with his back to Jessy. "I've been worried about that same thing." Grampa Lawyer replied. "The stress?" Zac asked hoping it was so. "No son, her getting close to Natalie." Grampa Lawyer shared placing a hand on his shoulder sharing their concern. "Let's see we can skip this part." Jessy said putting the tape in the machine and racing over her speech, adding, "Here it is. Here is the answer to why we are here." "I love you all too." Grampa Lawyer chuckled as Zoe danced with herself on TV. "So we ready for ice cream?" Zac asked and they all headed to the van. 1
