Thinking Of You

Part Four

"Grampa I'm so glad to see you. Thank you for coming Grampa." Isaac exclaimed as he opened the door and found his grandfather on the other side. "Where is she boy? Let's see what drunken Ashley is capable of." Grampa said opening the screen door. "It's not good Grampa. I hardly believe it was her and I just saw her Saturday night." Isaac explained leading him to Alicia's room. "Alicia. Alicia can you hear me? Babe I know you don't want any outside help but baby my Grampa is a doctor and he swears not to tell anyone. Do you hear me babe?" Isaac whispered leaning close as she moaned. "Was that okay? I think you said okay babe. Umm this is my Grampa. Grampa this is Alicia. She's beautiful and has the smile of an angel, well at least she does when she doesn't have a fat lip." Isaac shared thrilled when she reached up and grabbed his shirt and groaned which soon turned into uncontrollable coughing as she moaned in pain. "Let me in there boy. This doesn't sound good." Grampa said grabbing his stethescope. "Oh my poor baby, he's hurt you so. Come here, let me listen." Grampa said lifting her up and listening to her back. "This is what three days after and you say she just lays here going in and out of consciousness right?" he asked. "Grampa I just came an hour ago but that's what her friend said and she found her Sunday night passed out on the floor inside the front door. She doesn't know how she got there." Isaac explained feeling Alicia tapping his arm then she raised her hand and wiggled two fingers. "You walked? God Alicia it's at least five miles to the Mitchell's house from here. Oh baby I'm so sorry. If I'd known he was drunk I'd never left you at that party with him. I mean he gets loud when he drinks but I've never seen him drunk. You know babe now that I think about it I always leave te party when everybody starts to drinking. I'm not into tat you know so I usually just split." Isaac explained, leaning down and kissing the top of her head, whispering, "I'm so sorry he hurt you. You have to get better babe, you just have to." "Well my little angels smile, as bad as this all looks you are one strong little lady. There's a touch of congestion in your lungs but I fear that's from the inactivity. Isaac find more pillows so we can prop her up in bed until she's up on her own. Angel can you tell me if you have a headache under all that swelling?" Grampa asked and she shook her head no. "That's good sweetie. Have you been able to open your eyes at all?" he asked and she held up two fingers then moved them away over and over. "Two what?" he wondered. "Two days ago?" Isaac asked walking into the room and she shook her head yes as she moved her hand to her left eye shaking her head back and forth. "Isaac pull the shades and close the door." he ordered then examined her eyes. "Hmm you won't let me hospitalize you right?" he asked and Alicia shook her no at first but soon her entire body began to tremble. "Alicia please stop, he won't I promise you." Isaac pleaded as he made his way to her leaning down and holding her gently trying to stop the trembling. "Isaac. Son let her be. You'll hurt her trying to stop it. She can't control it. Most likely from the swelling to her brain." his Grandfather explained as he moved away collapsing into the chair next to her bed. His head hung while he fought the sobs and when he couldn't fight it anymore he rose and quickly made his way out of the room to the front steps to let the tears fall. "Oh my God she's dead." he heard lifting his head to find Chele falling to her knees, the bag of groceries tumbling to the ground. "No Chele she's not dead. It's just, I just, man she's having fits or something, just trembling uncontrollably and I couldn't handle it just watching her." Isaac explained. "You left her alone. What if it is an epileptic fit and she swallows her tongue?" Chele screamed at him rising. "No Chele, God no. I would never leave her alone." Isaac said racing to her hugging her. "Chele my Grampa, he's a doctor and I called him and made him promise to help her but not report it because that's what she wants." Isaac explained feeling her finally relax in his arms. "Thank God. What does he say? Will she be okay Isaac?" Chele whispered through her sobs. "He'd said she was remarkably strong but that was before the trembling. I just didn't want her to think I was scared for her you know so I came out here." Isaac replied before helping her retrieve the groceries. They made their way inside, stopping at the kitchen to put away groceries before making their way to Alicia's room. "Grampa this is Alicia's good friend Chele. She is the one that found her Sunday night." Isaac introduced as they entered the room. "Out little miss Florence Nightingale huh?" Grampa teased as Alicia choked out a few laughs they took it as. "I liked it better when you were unconcious and silent." Chele teased stroking her hand then whisper, "Welcome back my friend." Chele gasped as Alicia grabbed her hand an squeezed tight and with the other hand toucher her heart before putting up two fingers. "Her too I take it." Isaac said as Alicia nodded yes. "Well my little Florence Chele, I need these prescriptions filled and I'd send Isaac but being who he is sometimes attracts unwanted attention and this is important. Can I ask you to go?" Grampa asked. "Of course I'll go. I'll do anything to help her get better." Chele answered. "Well these should do the trick." Grampa answered turning to Isaac, "You kitchen detail. We have to get someting in her, at least a glass of milk." Isaac returned with a tray holding a sandwiches and three strawberry shakes. He placed the tray on the night stand next to the chair his grandfather was sitting in then made his way to Alicia's side with one of the shakes. "Hey babe. I looked around the kitchen and found a lot of strawberry flavored things so I took it, it meant you like strawberries. Chele had picked some up at the market but I sort of made her drop the bag, too long a story I'll tell you some other time. Anyway the strawberries took a beating so I put them to use making strawberry shakes. Here taste. Not bad if I say so myself." Isaac explained placng a straw in her mouth. "Mmm" Alicia moaned. "Good choice Isaac." Grampa cheered as she sipped more. "I had help. Man I panicked knowing how important it was that you eat something so I called Mom." Isaac explained as Alicia gasped and pulled away. "Babe she already knew. They have Ash, his grandfather, his parents, his siblings, quite a few of his real friends not the ones that hopped him up on alcohol. Mom said they're doing something like an intervention to help him straighten out his life. Babe my Mom wants you to come stay with us while you're recovering, for as long as it takes. She doesn't want Chele left with taking care of you by herself and she says she'll get to see me if you move in with us." Isaac asked, adding, "Please babe I'd feel better knowing there were people to take care of you. Please?" Alicia shrugged her shoulders and leaned toward Isaac laying her head against his chest. "Say you'll at least consider it?" Isaac pleaded. He smiled when she began nodding her head then reached for his hand with the shake. "You want more babe?" Isaac asked and she shook her head yes again as Chele entered the room. "I don't believe it. Sitting up and drinking. You must be just what the doctor ordered huh?" she teased. "Oh Grampa Mom wanted you to call her about you know who. She'd asked about some sort of clinic or rehab place to send you know who." Isaac said as Alicia started chuckling and she chuckled and chuckled. "What's so funny?" Isaac asked and she began to scribble in the air. "Paper and pencil?" Chele asked and Alicia nodded yes. With pencil in hand and her hand lined up with the paper she wrote 'I'm not blonde, Chele is. I know who you know who is, do you my blonde one?' "Hey is that some sort of blonde joke?" Isaac teased. "Oh course that's all brunettes can do is make blonde jokes." Chele answered sending Alicia scribbling. "Rather make one then be one." she wrote. "Man really sick she slams me, I don't know if I can handle her recovered and feeling well." Isaac teased and they were all shocked by her reaction as curled up in his arms and whispered "Sorry" "Babe I was only teasing. Alicia there is nothing to be sorry for, you ddn't do anything. I knew you were teasing babe. Okay?" Isaac said gently wrapping his arms around her gently and kissing the top of her head as she nodded off. "I guess I'll take this as my cue. Your mother has convinced me to face him and let him know what he's done to her. She says he's almost at rock bottom and she knows I can finish the job up." Grampa announced as he rose. "You're going to face the animal that did this?" Chele asked. "That's the plan sweetie, make him face what he's become. Would you care to join me, Isaac will look after her. She'll probably rest for an hour at least." Grampa answered. "I don't know if I can. What if I can't stop?" Chele asked. "Oh my what this has done to you. Sweet Chele come with me and put the anger and hurt where it belongs on Ash's shoulders not in your heart." Grampa pleaded. "Promise me you won't leave me alone with him okay?" Chele pleaded and the two headed for the Hansons while Isaac held a sleeping Alicia.
