Thinking Of You

Part Three / Thinking Of You

"I can't believe you've done this, that you are capable of something like this." Walker said disappointedly. "It's true then?" Taylor asked knowing the answer from the look on his father's face. "Ash what's gotten into you. Is this really you? How could you have done such a terrible thing? I never would have believed you would raise a hand to a woman. What was so wrong with her not wanting to ride with a drunk. That's what you are, a useless drunk incapable of controlling his emotions and actions. God Ash you beat up a woman. She's just a litte bit of a thing. How could you ever smash your fist into that beautiful face. She had the smile of an angel. She was so sweet and kind to everyone she met. Man she was even in the kitchen helping out, cleaning up without being asked. She didn't know anyone there but you, but she pitched in without being asked and you hit her, over and over. How could you?" Taylor pleaded to know. He was overwhelmed looking at his best friend but not knowing who he was looking at. "Dad how bad is it? Is that where Ike went?" Zac asked. "It's not good. He said her face was so swollen he didn't recognize her." Walker explained as they all gasped in horror at the consequences of what Ash had done. "He said her friend is concerned that there's internal injury but that for some reason Alicia refuses outside help. You did a real good number on her, whatever you said and did has her afraid to seek help. What's this three days since and she drifts in and out of consciousness but won't let them take her to a hospital." Walker shared. "If she's that bad she could still, still.." Taylor tried to ask but the word die stuck in his throat as he realized it was a possibility. "Please she can't die. I didn't mean to hurt her. I just didn't want her telling everybody I was a drunk. A drunk. God help me that's what I am. A useless drunk like you said. I thougt I was so cool, I could do something you couldn't do. I was wrong. It's like everything else. You can sing, I can't. You get girls falling at your feet, I get your leftovers. You look hot, and I'm just Ash, Taylor Hanson's best friend. I'm probably not even that anymore. I wouldn't blame you if you never spoke to me again." Ashley confessed his feelings, shocking the entire room. "Ash how can you feel that way. I didn't know. You never said anything. Who are you? Have you ever been honest with me?" Taylor asked totally hurt by his best friend's confession. "Yeah sure. I don't know. I didn't know I felt this way, how could I tell you. Maybe it's just guilt talking I don't know." Ash replied. "Tell me you didn't really think drinking was cool." Taylor pleaded. "I guess not. I don't know. I mean everybody teased you so I just went along with the crowd I guess. In the beginning it was cool they'd tease you and then buddy up with me instead of you. Then it just didn't matter anymore, I walked into a party and found the booze. Man after all the lectures you gave us and I fall for it." Ashley said lowering his head. "You do know what you've done is wrong? Ashley I don't know what to tell you son, but you have to make this right. You need to pray she does't die son. My Lord, you could be charged with murder for what you've done Ashley. It definitely isn't cool." Walker said so disheartened as if it was his own child. "Please don't hate me. I'll do anything just don't hate me? I was wrong. Help me make it up to her." Ashley pleaded. "Ashley I could never hate you. I hate what you did but not you. Why don't we pray for him to look over her and help her heal and you too son." Walker said wrapping an arm around his as all four joined hands and prayed. "I know Dad, we can call Reverend Spafford and request a prayer circle for her." Zac suggested. "Good idea Zachary, call him for me. Have them pray for Ashley too, he'll need God's strength to help him through this." Walker suggested. "Ash I don't hate you. You're my best friend and you need help and I'll do whatever I can okay? You're going to make it through this Ash, we're all behind you." Taylor offered. "Really Tay. You don't hate me?" Ashley asked so relieved at the chance he hadn't lost his best friend, adding, "Maybe not all of you. Grampa is going to come unglued. After all the lecture he's given us on respecting the fans. Not using their emotions by taking them up on their offers. He'll never forgive me hitting a girl.." Ashley shared. "Gramps will come around just like Dad. He won't hate you, he'll hate what you've done." Taylor suggested. "Don't be too quick there son, I didn't tell you that your brother was going to call him and ask him to look at her as his Grandfather not a doctor. You know respecting her wishes of not outside help who would report the crime. If he does help her. Whoa. I don't know if anyone but God is that strong and fogiving. To tend to her injuries, feel her pain then tell yourself Ashley did this." Walker explained. "Oh dear Lord, please see to it that Grampa takes care of her. I didn't mean to hurt her, I don't want her to die." Ashley cried out falling to his knees as he looked up and began praying over and over for her not to die. "Dad. Psst Dad. Reverend Spafford wants to talk to you about an intervention for Ash." Zac whispered handing him his cell phone. "Reverend Spafford." Walker said taking the phone and heading out of he room. Taylor and Zac joined Ash kneeling and praying for Alicia. "And please Lord, help Isaac be strong and help her through this. He's going to need your strength to help her through this. Amen." Taylor said as he noticed his father motioning to him. He tapped Zac on the shoulder getting his attention and nodding at their father. Walker shared Reverend Spafford's idea of an intervention. "I agree with him. Right now Ashley is showing remorse and good promise. I think right now we could impact him and turn him around so easily." Walker suggested and they all agreed and made plans. Walker called Ashley's Grandfather, a close personal friend of his father-in-law's. Actually their Grandfathers were how Taylor and Ashley met years back. Their Grandfathers went fishing together often and one day they both brought along their grandsons and the rest is "Best Friend" history. "Dad is going to need your help to deal with this one. From what Isaac says she is still in critical condition. If Dad can't do this I don't know what we'll do. I know he's still bound by the law to report this type of thing, but she doesn't want that to happen for some reason. If he doesn't and she dies, I don't think Ashley will be able to handle it." Walker shared. "I'll call him myself and plead with him to help her. Meet you at your place Walker and thanks for loving him as if he were one of your own." Ashley's Grandfather said. "Now to tell Mother. This is going to be hard. I think it will be harder than if it was one of the boys. She is never going to believe me." Walker replied heaving a deep sigh. "God be with you son." was the last thing he heard. "How do I tell her?" Walker mumbled as he dialed the phone and told her honestly and straight forward as with every other thing they had faced in their life together. "Walker I still can't believe this has happened. Not to one of our boys." Diana shared her heart broken. "I know mother but he needs us now more than ever to fight his way back." Walker suggested. "And we'll be here for him. You bring him home to me and I'll call Daddy and beg him to help her. Walker how do you feel about her staying with us while she recovers." Diana asked. "That'd be fine. It would make it easier on your father to be surround by family and we could let him know all the time how we appreciate his helping her." Walker answered and they finalized plans for helping both Ashley and Alicia.
