Lucy

Part One

"I can't believe this is happening." Jessy mumbled. "Jessy do you have your tickets?" Barbara asked. "Yeah Momma. Right, right. Oh yeah right here." Jessy answered checking pocket after pocket before pulling off her Abercrombe and Fitch hat and pulling the ticket from under the band. "Good thing your head is attached." Barbara teased. "Yeppers. Otherwise I wouldn't have anyplace to put my hat." Jessy teased back and they laughed. "You have to get a new hat. That one is almost embarassing." Barbara suggested. "No. I'll never give it up. You know Tim McGraw touched it. I'll never give it up." Jessy squealed. "Yeah I know. Boo Hoo he married that woman." Barbara teased laughing again as the boarding call was made. "Okay before you go, the rental agency has a car waiting for you. Here's the confirmation and you have your charge card. Right Jessy? Jessy!" Barbara asked. "Oh yeah. Man I don't know why I'm doing this." Jessy mumbled. "Jessy don't do this now. Lucy is so hyped about this. I promise as soon as I have things settled, I'll be out there. You going to be okay?" Barbara asked. "Yeah Momma. I'll be okay. Why shouldn't I be okay. I'm heading somewhere I've never been to meet someone I've never met and to top it of she's dying. God why wouldn't I be okay?" Jessy moaned. "Real funny. Do you want to go or not?" Barbara asked, definitely agitated, adding, "Jessy you started this. You decided to search your family tree and wrote. You were so thrilled when Aunt Kathy wrote and you started writing to Lucy. So she got sick, it's not her fault. Who in their right mind would want to die at 17? You?" Barbara asked. "Enough. I'm fine. I'm going. This is a far nobler thing I do." Jessy said waving her ticket in the air and heading to the boarding gate and soon was on her way to Tulsa, Oklahoma. "Okay a right here and it should be... Okay where are the houses, nothing here but trees. Oh a drive. Great no house number, no nothing. Here comes another. Whoa serious security." Jessy said as a car pulled up behind here and blared it's horn. "Go around moron." Jessy screamed out the window reading the directions again, looking at the odometer again as the car pulled along side. "Are you lost?" she heard. "Nope. Not for another 1.7 miles." Jessy answered, adding, "Sorry about the moron thing. I'm a little nerved up." As she looked at the other car, she noticed three guys or maybe two guys and a girl, or one guy and two girls. The passenger talking to her was definitely a guy in spite of the curly hair. "Oops car coming and this is my turn. Thanks for the offer of help." Jessy said turning on her turn light and waving as the car finally passed. "Jessy?" the brunette asked. "Yeah. Lucy?" Jessy answered. "Yeah. You came. I can't believe you came." Lucy said as she began to cry. "Sure I came. I promised you I would." Jessy said hugging her. "Yeah and you promised to help me meet Hanson too, remember?" Lucy said with a sniffle here and there, finally wiping her nose on her sleeve. "Great. Oh that was your sleeve." Jessy teased, adding, "Now what exactly is a Hanson." "I told you already." Lucy whined. "Oh yeah something to do with music. I'll have to do some research, I'm a Country fan. See the hat? Tim McGraw touched this hat. No don't touch it! Just look and admire." Jessy squealed. "So that's the infamous hat. Cool Now help me get Hanson to touch something of mine, preferably me." Lucy teased. "Ohhh my God. I was so ready to hop his bones after he touched the hat and said I was cute but she came." Jessy shared as her Aunt Kathy joined them. Jessy was thrilled it was none of the things she'd imagined, except for being quite pale, Lucy didn't look sick, much less dying. Inoperable brain cancer, Jessy remembered the first time Lucy had written her about it. "Wow your hair is longer than mine was. Damn Chemo." Lucy grumbled. "Oh I forgot, Momma found this for you. I had told her about your search for the perfect hair and she had her girlfriend do this for you." Jessy shared handing Lucy a hat box. Inside she found a new wig, styled exactly like she'd dreamed. "Oh it's perfect. Where'd she find it?" Lucy asked pulling off the wig she was wearing throwing it to the ground and pulling on the new wig. "I have to go look. What's it look like? Huh?" Lucy rattled on. "Way cool. Maybe I'll cut my hair." Jessy shared. "Darling you look adorable. Oh Jessy you have to thank your mother. This is wonderful." Kathy shared. "Momma said if you want another one for a spare, just let her know." Jessy replied. "I'm ready to meet them now. How are you going to do this." Lucy asked as Kathy shared her contacts to 'Make A Wish', and some local groups to no avail. "They all offered trips to Disney World." Kathy shared. "Like I said, I'll have to do some research but I'm sure we can make it happen." Jessy encouraged. She and Lucy were off to Lucy's room going on-line searching the net, visiting HansonLine and Jessy even signed up for Hanson.Net. It was in a Hanson chat room Jessy met her first ally, GoddessOfDreams a.k.a. Chele. Chele offered to help by posting something about Lucy on her Hanson Web Page, starting a letter writing campaign to grant Lucy's dying wish, begging Hanson to meet Lucy. They were at it all morning, trying to come up with the right words that would catch Hanson's eyes and hearts. "Man I'm hungry." Lucy moaned around 11:30. "I'll run downstairs, what do you want?" Jessy asked hitting send. "McDonald french fries." Lucy answer. "You have a McDonald's downstairs? Man I must have missed it." Jessy teased as Lucy persuaded her to go get her favorites, drawing her a map to the nearest one. "How did I get myself into this?" Jessy complained following the directions, adding, "Nothing but trees. This must be Tarzan's McDonalds." She noticed the car approaching as she took another look at the directions. "Another two miles." Jessy mumbled as a car pulled along side of her. "You lost? Hey it's you." Isaac asked. "Huh? Oh you again. No not for another 2.2 miles." Jessy answered. "McDonalds? That's where we're headed." she heard from the backseat telling her it was not a she despite the long blonde hair. "Yeah McDonalds. My cousin is having french fry withdrawls. My first day in town and I'm off searching for a guy who wears big red shoes." Jessy teased and immediately thought, "Why on earth did I say that? Why do I always have to cut up like that?" The laughter from the other car relieved some of the tension. "You're a blast." the curly haired one said. "No not really, you're just easy." Jessy teased back, "Again with the cutting up." she thought as the roar from the back seat of the other card intrigued her, thinking, "He sure enjoys life." "Why don't you follow us." the curly haired one suggested. "Really? I guess you guys are my saviors. Thanks I'd love to not search for something for a change." Jessy answered watching the car pull in front of her. A short way down the road she saw their turn light go on, "Right in the middle of nowhere is right." Jessy thought until she neared the drive and behind the restaurant was a shopping mall. "Where'd that come from? Cool." Jessy squealed following the guys into the drive thru lane which was extremely long. "Oh my God he's gorgeous." Jessy gasped as the back door of the car opened and out stepped the long haired blonde. "What a hottie." she squealed then began to panic when he headed towards her. "What am I wearing? My hair." Jessy thought as she straightened her clothes and hair. "Hey." Zac said as he approached the car, adding, "Nice car." "Hey. It's a rental just got into town this morning. Oh you know that." Jessy answered turning red. "Yeah I do. So how do you like it so far?" Zac asked. "Let's see the airport was neat. Town traffic was a bi... bad, real bad. I learned my cousin lives in the boonies. Anything else, oh yeah, the people are real nice." Jessy answered finally looking up at him smiling. "He's got the most beautiful eyes." Jessy thought. "So you staying for awhile?" Zac asked watching the smile on her face disappear and he wondered what was wrong. "How do I answer that. I sure hope so. Umm I need to move ahead." Jessy informed and Zac walked backwards as she pulled forward causing her to laugh. "You're crazy." Jessy laughed. "I've heard that before." Zac replied. "Umm I'm here because my cousin is dying of cancer, so I hope I'm here for a long time. I mean she's only seventeen, a year older than me. Inoperable brain cancer." Jessy shared fighting the tears. "Man I'm sorry. I hope you're here for a real long time too. I'm sorry I never asked your name." Zac apologized. "It's Jessy. I'm sorry I just figured you knew the number of times you've saved me and all" Jessy answered him. "Hey Jessy can I call you or something. You know maybe we could get together and do something if you wanted." Zac finally got out. "I'd like to get together and do something. Maybe you could show me around." Jessy suggested. "I could do that. When?" Zac asked as his brothers placed their order. "I gotta go or they'll eat my food." Zac shared. "Um here's my e-mail addy. Write me and I'll let you know when." Jessy said as Zac headed back to his car. "Whoa. He is so fine." Jessy sighed watching him walk away as she paid for her order then followed them to the pick up window. "I'll write you when I get home." Zac hollered as they pulled ahead. "Okay." Jessy hollered back and waved goodbye, quickly adding, "Wait I don't know your name." Jessy picked up their order and headed back to Lucy's. "Here you go. French Fries in mass quantities." Jessy teased as Lucy raced out of the house to meet her. "I'm dying for a french fry. What took so long? Did you get lost?" Lucy squealed filling her mouth with fries. "No I didn't get lost. Remember the car that stopped and helped me this morning? Well I ran into them again. What's with all the guys around here having long hair. I mean this one guy's is almost as long as mine. I didn't mind though, he was so fine." Jessy rambled on thinking about him. "No you don't. You aren't suppose to be looking for fine guys, you're suppose to find Hanson." Lucy warned. "Oh so Hanson isn't fine. What dogs? Bow Wows." Jessy teased. "No. They're fine. I mean you don't get a fine guy until you find me Hanson." Lucy explained and the two headed back to the family room, going on-line to continue the search. "You know, Taylor, the one two years older than us, he has this friend that works with them. Man I think they've been friends like forever. Anyway maybe we can find him and he can help us find them." Lucy suggested. "Man how long have you and Aunt Kathy lived here?" Jessy asked. "Now quite six months. When they told me about the tumor and all and that I was..." Lucy started to explain getting quiet. "So this friend have a name?" Jessy asked to get her mind off the fact she was dying. "Yeah. His name is Ashley Greyson." Lucy answered. "Guys with hair as long as mine and they name them Ashley. I gotta write home and tell all my girlfriends named Ashley about this." Jessy replied and began laughing. Soon they were both howling, "What on earth!" Kathy said entering the room, thrilled to see Lucy laughing. "Oh Mom it's so funny." Lucy choked out. "You had to have been there though." Jessy added as the two laughed until they cried. They got back to the business at hand and started searching for an Ashley Greyson. "I guess he's tired of girls calling him to try to get at Hanson." Lucy said not coming up with anything in the phone book. "Nothing on line either about him. I'm going to write the official fan mail site again. And again. And again." Jessy replied. "Lucy it's time to get ready. You have a doctor appointment." Kathy called out. "Oh I forgot. Do I have to?" Lucy asked. "Lucy you know better." Kathy replied. "We were having fun." Lucy pouted. "I'll come along if you want me to." Jessy offered. "Nah. I usually end up sick. What fun is that." Lucy explained. "Maybe I'll go check out that Mall by McDonald's. You need anything?" Jessy asked. "Nah." Lucy answered heading to her room. "That was sweet of you to offer to go along. I talked to your mother while you were making the french fry run. She said to tell you that the boys decided to stay with Tom and as soon as the paper work is completed, she'll be out here." Kathy shared. "Great. Umm how sick will Lucy be?" Jessy asked and she listened as her Aunt explained what was about to happen and what to expect. "See you later." Jessy said waving as they pulled out. She headed back inside to shower and change for her trip to the mall. "Watch out Tulsa. Here I come." Jessy squealed looking at her reflection in the mirror. "I knew I bought this for a reason." she whispered turning to make sure not everything showed. Jessy locked up the house and made her way to the Mall. As she made her way to the entrance it began, she was turning heads left and right. "Well worth the money I would say." Jessy thought as she noticed a group of guys racing to open the door for her. "Oh come on now, I'm not that wide." Jessy teased as four guys opened four different doors. "See I can fit through just one fine." Jessy said opening the last door by herself and making her way inside as she heard the laughter. Once inside, she slid her shades to the top of her head and headed into a Health Food store to buy a bottled water. "Let me get that for you." Jessy heard as a guy opened the cooler. "Thanks but it wasn't necessary. I may be blonde but I usually can figure out how to open them on my own." Jessy teased reaching inside and grabbing a water before heading to the check out line. "I didn't mean anything by it you know." she heard turning around to find the guy who opened the cooler behind her in line. "Neither did I. I really have a hard time deciding which way the door goes. It makes you look so foolish jerking on the door in the wrong direction." Jessy teased again but this time she laughed herself. "Whoo I wasn't sure there for a minute if you were serious or not." he choked out before the next round of laughter. "Doh! Excuse me your door is broken. It won't open no matter how hard I pull. It goes the other way moron." Jessy added and they were both laughing heartily by now. "Let me get that for you. You are definitely funny." he offered. "Oh I don't know. You may expect all of seventy-five cents worth back in trade. What's that a wink?" Jessy teased winking at him, adding, "Thank you for the water." Before he could ask her name, Jessy quickly disappeared out the door and vanished into the crowd of people. "Did you see her? Where did she go?" Ashley asked joining his friend and his brothers. "See who?" Taylor asked. "The knockout. Blue eyed blonde dressed in a blue mini skirt, white tee with a mini backpack. Fine looking." Ashley answered. "No way. Where?" Zac asked. "Stop drooling boy she's mine. I saw her first." Ashley answered, adding, "There she is." The four made their way through the crowds catching up with her. "Hey Jessy." Zac hollered stopping the blonde in her tracks. "Well hi. What are you doing here? I thought you were going to write me." Jessy asked. "I haven't made it home yet. Sorry Jessy. We ran into a friend of my brother's and next thing I know we're here." Zac explained. "Oh that's why you didn't write. You see my Aunt and my cousin are headed to the doctors and I'm sort of left on my own." Jessy hinted. "Why don't we do something? That is if you want to." Zac sort of asked. "I'd love to. What do you want to do? Oh but what about them?" Jessy asked noticing his brothers and a familiar face approaching, adding, "Hey I know him. He bought my water." "I don't know how to tell you this, but you didn't know her first. This is Jessy. You remember me griping I wanted to go home I had to write to Jessy. He's the reason I didn't write you yet babe." Zac explained to Ash then to Jessy. "Oh so he's why. And here I was thinking he was a nice guy offering to buy my water and everything. It's a good thing you did Mr Reason. You owe me big time for this. I almost missed out on our first date thanks to you Mr Reason." Jessy teased. "Hey you can drop the Mr." Ash teased. "Okay Reason. He's one of those that talks about himself in the third person, huh?" Jessy teased. "Reason says you're still a smart ass." Ash teased. "Now don't you be looking at my ass no more." Jessy replied backing into Zac. "I give. I'm glad you saw her first Brat." Ash teased shoving Zac away from her. "Hi Brat, I'm Jessy. Brat is an unusual name but Reason wouldn't be into name calling he's too cool, so Brat must be your name. Didn't the folks know how to spell Brad?" Jessy teased and everyone laughed and began calling Zac, Brat. After a few more minutes of polite conversation, "Sorry guys Jessy and I are splitting. I'm going to show her around town." Zac explained. "Yeah you'll start at Make-Out Point and never leave." Isaac teased slapping him on the back. "Can we Brat? Please?" Jessy asked walking up behind Zac and wrapping her arms around him. "If it's what makes you happy, I guess so Jessy." Zac replied as his brothers and Ash stood in awe. "You are so good to me. Hun the keys are in the front zipper pouch." Jessy informed letting go and stepping in front of him so he could reach her backpack and he unzipped the pouch. "Hey pictures, can I look?" Zac asked pocketing her keys and pulling out a mini photo album titled 'Jessy's Friends'. "Legs, I like. Who's with you?" Zac asked looking at the first picture. "That's the basketball team I play on." Jessy answered. "Lots of leg. I really like." Zac moaned. "That's the volleyball team." Jessy explained. "I've died and gone to heaven." Zac teased as the other guys grabbed the book to pull it closer. "No that's in South Haven not Heaven. That's me and my pal Venita. She's lives at the beach now. We went to school together forever it seems but now I only see her in the summertime." Jessy explained the shot of her and her pal in bikinis. "Who's he?" Zac asked looking at the picture of Jessy formally dressed wrapped in the arms of a good looking guy. "Prom date. He graduated last year. We didn't have much in common." Jessy explained noticing the disappointment in Zac's eyes, adding, "I didn't let him take me to the Make Out Spot." Zac's eyes came alive again. "We better get going. Turn around babe." Zac said putting the album back, taking her hand, leading her to the parking lot. "Thanks for being a good sport about the Make Out Point teasing Jessy." Zac said opening the door for her, adding "I'll let you off the hook, we don't have to go." "Oh. But what if I wanted to go?" Jessy asked. "What?" Zac asked thrown by her statement. "Well I've never been to one before." Jessy explained. "Me neither Jessy. I think we're suppose to go at night though." Zac replied. "Well then that's ideal for beginners right? You know, lights on." Jessy teased. "Sold me. Make Out Point here we come." Zac said closing her door and heading around to the drivers seat.
