Look At You

Part Forty-Two

The limo pulled up in front of the Country Club and Ken stepped out helpinng Barbie out. "Good evening Professor Kendall, Mrs. Kendall, family and guest." the doorman greeted. "Good evening Michael. Looks like a good turnout." Ken said. "Yes sir. Tulsa is here in full force sir." Michael replied, gasping as Jessy stepped from the limo. "If I may say so sir, your Jessy looks just like a fairy princess, sir. Isn't that what she was nicknamed at the Valentine Ball, sir, your little princess." Michael said. "That she is Michael." as Ken headed in now that everyone was out of the limo. As Zac and Jessy entered, "Looking good little princess." Michael said. "Oh thanks Michael. I'd like you to meet my fiance, Zac Hanson." Jessy smiled as Zac extended his hand. "Jessy that's wonderful, congratulations Zac you a very lucky man." Michael said. "Thanks, yes I am." Zac said. "Michael these are my sisters, the ones I told you about, Chele and her fiance, Taylor Hanson and Kristina and her fiance, Isaac Hanson." Jessy said. "No way, Ken must have had a coronary when he found out he was losing all of his girls to Hanson." Michael said. "Let's just say it was a good thing we had flood insurance." Jessy laughed as they entered and caught up with their folks. "Ladies and Gentlemen, Professor Ken Kendall and his wife, Barbie. Their guests, Walker and Diana Hanson. Their daughters Kristina and her escort Isaac Hanson, Chele and her escort Taylor Hanson, and Jessy and her escort Zac Hanson." they were introduced and as the photographer was arranging the group photo. "Ladies and Gentlemen Guest of Professor Ken Kendall and Mrs. Kendall, Mr. Lawyer." he was introduced. "What? Dad?" Diana gasped and as she turned and he came into view, "Daddy." she squealed. "My baby girl. You look lovely. Son." Grampa said walking to the group. "Diana don't cry." Walker said. "Baby I didn't come to make you cry." Grampa hugged her. "Oh Daddy I'm just so happy you're here, not at home alone." Diana said. "Oh home has changed. I have three very lovely granddaughters to be, that love my grandsons so and we all get along just fine. Don't we little baby girl. She reminds me so much of you." Grampa said as Jessy and Zac walked up. "Mom I didn't mean to make you cry." Jessy said wiping her tears with her hankie, "You all knew, that's what this was all about at the house." Mom said as she looked at Jessy's dance card, seeing My Grampa printed on the second line after My Daddy. "Baby girl if I could see your dance card. Son with your permission." Grampa asked. "Please Dad nothing would make me happier than to watch you dance with my wife." Walker said slapping his back as he scratched through Walker's name and wrote his own. "No where are my other lovely granddaughter's cards. "First Grampa, this is my Mom and Dad, Barbie and Ken. Momma, Daddy this is my very own Grampa. He is way cool and I love him lots." Jessy introduced hugging Grampa. "Now I see why my granddaughters are all so lovely." Grampa said taking Barbie's hand and kissing it. "Oh my. You I like. Diana how could you hide him from me." Barbie said heading to Diana who was still in tears watching Grampa adoring the girls. The photographer grew impatient and Ken finally got everyone lined up. Pictures of the entire group, the girls and their fiances, Grampa and the girls, Daddy and his girls, Walker and his girls, and each couple were taken. "Ladies and Gentlemen. Dinner will be served in the Dining Hall. For your listening pleasure the Tulsa Symphony Chamber quartet." the annoucement said and the doors were opened and they were escorted to their table. They were serving the main course, "Ladies and Gentlemen for you listening pleasure, our own Jessy Kendall, daughter of Professor Ken Kendall and his wife, Barbie." the announcement said as the club manager arrived at their table, "Miss Jessy." he said extending his hand, then escorted her to the quartet and her violin case. Jessy amazed the room with her ability. She smiled at the sight of her parents beaming with pride as Momma hugged Zac. As she made her way back to her table, she was congratulated by each table. "Thank you for your kind words." she replied. "Jessy, Jessy." she heard and turned to see Attorney Conners standing and she made her way over. "Beautiful Jessy, you and your music. My wife Maureen. Friends Dave and Linda Mason, Gene and Susan Mabee, Mike and Joanna Davis. This is Jessy Kendall, the talented and lovely daughter of a friend and client of mine. Jessy I had no idea. Ken never told me." he said. "I haven't played in years, so Daddy probably didn't mention it." Jessy said. "Let me walk you back dear. If you'll excuse me for a moment folks." he said extending his arm and escorting her back to her family. "Ken you must be so proud." he said approaching the table and Jessy made a beeline to her Daddy's arms. Ken hugged and kissed her then walked her to Zac, "Son will you take her for me." he said as they stepped away from the group and spoke. "Zac something's up. I could see it in Mr. Conners eyes when he called me to his table and when he walked me back he had such a grip on me." Jessy said lifting the cover off and picking at her food. Zac watched them talking, "It's probably nothing." he said as he watched Ken raising his arms telling him he had just lied to her. Seeing Ken, Walker rose and excused himself and walked over to the two, putting a hand on Ken's shoulder as support. They were clear the table, "She hasn't had time to eat." Zac said when they asked Jessy if she was through. "I'm not really hungry any more, you can take it away." Jessy said. "Honey please you have to eat something." Zac pleaded. "What's for dessert?" Jessy asked "I think I saw a cake with fresh strawberries on it." the busboy answered. "If I promise to eat that." Jessy asked looking at Zac. "Real nutritious. Go ahead take it away." he said as Jessy kissed and hugged him laying her head on his shoulder biting her bottom lip. "Jessy let's go to the powder room." Momma said as Zac rose and pulled out their chairs. Walker rushed up behind them, "Boy I hope the men's room is near where you are heading." he joked walking with them. He waited outside for them to finish and walked them back to the table. As they served dessert. "Honey be careful. You're a little close to Momma and they're about to put strawberries in front of her." Jessy joked. "Taylor watch out you're in the line of fire." Zac teased as Jessy heard Mom telling Grampa what was so funny. "I'm ready for you Momma. Fire away." Taylor teased holding up an empty plate as a shield. "Oh my god she ate it." Jessy gasped. "Ummm this is good." she said eyeing Zac's and Ken's. "Here dear feed mine to the baby." Ken said hugging her. "Oh you're such a good father already." Barbie said tears filling her eyes. "He's the best." Jessy said smiling at him bringing tears to his eyes. "I'll second that." Chele said raising her glass. "I'll third that." Kristina said. "To Daddy" the three toasted then finished their dessert. "Ladies and Gentlemen the Tulsa Country Club proudly announces the beginning of the Mid-Summer Ball. If you'll join us now in the grand ballroom." he announced and they rose and made their way back to the ballroom. "Ladies and Gentlemen, Professor Ken Kendall and his wife Barbie, proudly announce the engagements of their daughters, Kristina and her fiance Isaac Hanson, Chele and her fiance Taylor Hanson, and Jessy with her fiance, Zac Hanson." he announced and each couple stepped forward. "Ladies and Gentlemen the beginning dance of the Mid-Summer Ball." he announced and they found their partners. "Daddy what is it?" Jessy asked. "Nothing for you to worry about baby, I promise you that my little princess." Ken said as he danced with her. She danced with Grampa next, "Are you going to lie to me too when I ask what's wrong?" Jessy asked as he pulled her close and began to dance. "I honestly don't know Little one, I should probably find out though, we can't have you worrying." Grampa said kissing her cheek. As she danced next with Zac's father, "Daddy what is it? What won't you tell me?" Jessy asked. "Sweetie it isn't anything for you to worry about, honest just let us do this for you." he asked and she laid her head on his chest, "I'll try Daddy." she said. "Taylor you know don't you. Why won't they tell me?" Jessy asked him. "Jessy you know I love you and wouldn't let anything happen to my lil sis? You know Chele would kill me if I did, right?" Taylor asked. "Yeah I'm sure she would." Jessy laughed. "Damn girl it's not funny. I'd be so dead." he complained. "I sort of think you're a goner already Tay." Jessy said. "Yeah Jessy, I sure am." Taylor said looking at Chele dancing with Zac. "Boy you look so pretty tonight Jessy." Isaac said. "Thanks big brother. So I'm sure your just protecting me too, right?" she asked. "Don't worry sis. Everything will be fine." he answered. The rest of her dance card was filled by Zac and they danced the night away. "Stop worrying Jessy." Zac said holding her closer. "Easy for you to say, you know what's up, Me I'm left in the dark. I want some fresh air." Jessy said heading towards the terrace. "Umm hun we can't." Zac said grabbing her hand. "What?" she asked. "Not right yet I have to go to the bathroom. Show me where it is?" he asked and as she led him, he motioned for help. "Where you two headed." Ken asked. "Zac has to go to the bathroom." Jessy said. "Me too" Barbie said. "Momma we just went." Jessy said. "Must be the strawberries." she laughed and the girls headed in the ladies room, while Ken waited outside. "She wants to go to the terrace for fresh air." Zac said. "Run and tell your brothers to get out there now, maybe she won't be so suspicious if it's them." Ken said and Zac ran and sent Tay and Chele and Isaac and Kristina to the terrace. When the girls came out they headed to the terrace. "Now where you going?" Ken asked. "Jessy wants some fresh air." Zac said. "Have a good time." Ken said and headed back to the ballroom. "Maybe I am being paranoid. Zac I'm sorry I just figured something was up the way everyone was acting." Jessy said. "Hey sis. Man this is a great club. I thought you said it was full of snobs?" Chele asked. "It is. They're just having fun and they're nice when they have fun." Jessy laughed. "You guys out here too. Man I thought we found a secret make out spot." Isaac said. "Yeah right the main terrace of the Country Club." Jessy laughed. The six sat and talked, laughed and made out. "Ladies and Gentlemen the Mid-Summer Ball will conclude. The last dance." he announced. "Zac let's go dance, please." Jessy asked. "Why not here?" Zac asked. "That would be great." she said rising and helping him to his feet. Zac walked her to the center of the terrace, took her in his arms and they swayed to the music. Chele and Tay and Kristina and Isaac joined them dancing under the stars. When the number ended they headed back in and they loaded into the limo and headed out.
