Something New

Part Two

In a flash Jessy was at her desk writing, "Hey Zac. Thanks for making time to write, I really appreciate it. I know you life must be hectic now that you are recording and it doesn't sound like things are going too well. I'm really sorry. Where are you anyway, Tulsa or La? At least you know where I am. BORING. Thanks for the tongue back, it's perfect timing, the girls are coming to my place Friday after school. Momma and my bros are headed to Indiana from school so they can watch my brothers' friend play the first football game of the season and won't be back until Saturday so me and the girls are having a slumber party sort of. She won't let me date, but she'll let me stay home alone with Venita and Krystal. If she only knew the real Venita and Krystal, she'd let me date before she'd leave the three of us alone. I have to be careful because Krystal gets a little carried away at times. Overly boy crazy, that one. So you went to a lot of trouble to find my first letter, I'm surprised you remembered it (A lot sorry too, I think I spilled my guts telling myself you'd never read it in a million years) My how time flies. hehehe! I know what you mean about not telling anyone about writing, I haven't even told Chele yet, I don't think she'd believe me if I did. I don't believe it and I'm writing to you. hehehe! It is real, right Zac? Man insecure in capital letters. Don't you just hate that when you think everything is fine, okay and all of a sudden you feel so insecure about it for no reason. I didn't tell you that you look so tall suddenly, man Zac you look as tall as Ike and Tay in the pic I saw of the Women's World. Did it hurt? haha!! That's not funny, I'm sorry. My youngest brother Sam, gets really sore knees and then next thing we know he's an inch taller. Did you grow all at once or has this been going on since the tour ended. Man at that time, I was taller than you I think but not anymore. How tall are you. Isn't puberty fun? If you're in LA you probably won't get this for a while so I won't get bent if I don't hear from you but yeah Zac, I'd like to write to you, I enjoyed you letter and I could read it just fine. I'll write you again after my slumber party and tell you if they bought the swapping tongues story. Good luck in the studio, I'll be thinking of you. Friends Alwayz, Jessy." Jessy quickly addressed an envelope, doodle on the outside with her markers and stickers and raced to the mailbox and put it in. "Where you headed, it's dinner time?" her mother asked. "To the mailbox be right back." Jessy answered. She didn't give the letter another thought, all thoughts were counting down the four days to slumber party. In school that's all they talked about and the minute someone walked by they would hush, stop talking and stare to hurry the person on their way. Finally Friday and the three were the center of attention at school, everyone was dying to know what was up with the three. As they all walked to bus 8 and got on, they were being followed. "What?" Jessy asked as they stared. "Jessy ain't that your Mom?" Mike asked pointing. "Yeah that's her, real good Mike." Jessy answered rolling her eyes. "Why ain't you going with her?" Mike asked. "Cuz Venita doesn't ride this bus and she wanted to check them all out okay?" Jessy answered impatiently. "Oh, I guess." Mike said walking away. "Geez nosy." Jessy mumbled as they made their way to the back. All the way home, they were asked what was up and whispered back and forth to each other driving everyone crazy. At home Jessy stopped at the mailbox and headed to the house sorting through until her eyes noticed Zac's handwriting. "God." Jessy said without thinking. "What is it?" Venita asked. "Oh nothing much, something for my Mom." Jessy lied as she unlocked the door. She slipped the letter into her back pocket and locked the door as she entered. "Hungry?" Jessy asked and the three grabbed drinks and chips and headed to her room. Jessy grabbed her duplicate copy of 'LFA' and headed to the front room and loaded it into the CD player grabbing the remote. She grabbed the remote from her room and stood in the dining room starting both machines at the same time filling the house with blaring Hanson. "Cool. Surround sound." Venita laughed racing back to Jessy's room changing her clothes, "Where's my boxers?" she asked. "What boxers?" Jessy asked. "The hanson boxers you made, I want to wear a pair." Venita insisted and Jessy out the Ike boxers and handed them over as she stripped and pulled on her Zac boxers. "Here you can be Hanson." Jessy said to Krystal. Soon the three were dancing their way around the house having a blast. "What was that?" Venita asked. "Someone's at the door. Damn you better not have said anything, if that's Michael I'm calling my Uncle and telling him to bring a shotgun." Jessy grumbled heading to the door. "Oh hi, can I help you?" Jessy answered. "Sure can if you're Jessy." the delivery lady asked. "Yeah that's me." Jessy answered. "Well little lady, these are for you, if you'll just sign here." the lady said placing a clipboard over the long white box. "Um just a minute." Jessy said disappearing and coming back with a tip. "Thanks." Jessy said taking the flower box and locking the door. "What you getting flowers for?" Krystal asked. "Who?" Venita asked. "God I don't know, let me open them." Jessy said stopping at the dining room table, untying the ribbon and lifting the top reveal a dozen red roses and two white roses. Jessy grabbed the card, "Hope you three are having a blast. BEHAVE. Zac" Jessy read with tears filling her eyes. "Look this white rose has my name on it." Venita said. "Mines on this one. God who is this keeper anyway. How'd he know we were here?" Krystal asked. "Duh!! I told him, I tell him everything." Jessy said. "Spill it, you can't date, who is this?" Venita begged to know. "A friend." Jessy said heading to the kitchen to get vases. "Here put them in water and you can keep them to remind you, you don't have to date to find a really nice guy." Jessy said taking the roses to her room, returning to grab the box and card, figuring they had enough time to read it. Jessy placed the box in her closet and tucked the card in a drawer at her desk. "Wait what's that say?" Venita asked looking over her shoulder and Jessy anded her the letter from Zac. "Swapped tongues. No Way. Who is Zac?" she demanded to know as Krystal started up. "Hey you can't date. No way." she insisted. "Fine. I don't date and make sure you tell Momma that." Jessy said heading to the roses. She picked up their dirty clothes, "I'm going to wash these be right back." Jessy said heading to the laundry to read her letter. "Hey Jessy, Sure hope you get this before the flowers come. I hope they come, I wasn't too sure if I was in the right City or not and they weren't too sure of your address. I'm still home in Tulsa. Jessy can you call me, you can call collect so your Mom don't have to find out on the next telephone bill. My folks said it would be okay? So if you can call me okay, I'd really like to talk to you. We're headed to LA Monday so write me at this address until I tell you we're headed back home okay? Have a good time and call me. Friends Alwayz and a Day, Zac." Jessy loaded the clothes and started the machine. When she returned she snuck her letter into the hidden drawer in her desk and grabbed her two copies of 'RTA' and loaded the two VCRs and grabbed the remotes standing between the two and started them simultaneously. The girls were having a blast and Jessy decided to share with Zac and ran to her desk jotting down his number and in the dining room she dialed the number, "Hello Mrs. Hanson? This is Jessy and Zac said it was okay to call collect." Jessy said after the operator connected her. "Hi Jessy, yes dear it's fine, Zac asked." Diana said. "So did you get your roses dear? We weren't sure if we had the right city." Diana said. "Yes I did that's why I decided I'd call so he knew I got them. They're beautiful and the fact he sent one for my friends was so sweet. Is he always this nice?" Jessy asked. "Jessy sweetie, I don't know what to tell you, he's never liked a girl before this so I don't know. I guess yes, he is a nice boy but I'm very partial." Diana laughed. "You better be, it's in your job description." Jessy insisted and the laughed together. "You are a cutie aren't you?" Diana asked laughing. "Oh Mrs H I'm 13, give me a break I got boobs and all, I'm past cutie." Jessy laughed. "Forgive me Jessy, it's hard to think of Zac grown up and I just associated you with him. Sorry Jessy." Diana apologized. "That's okay, I know you didn't mean anything by it and how would you know I'd be so touchy. In person it'll be the opposite, I look older than I am, so I'm a total puzzle. Looks old, acts young and true age is somewhere in between." Jessy said laughing. "You sound just like Zac dear, Speaking of him, here he comes. I guess I have to give you up and I was having so much fun talking to you, I hope I get a chance to speak to you again sometime soon Jessy." Diana explained. "You sound like as cool as a Mom as you come off. Before you go, Thanks, you and your husband have done such a good job raising the boys. You should be majorly proud of yourselves, the guys seem so well mannered and come off as such nice people. You know the kind you with the world was full of." Jessy said. "Jessy what a nice thing to say, I'm so touched. My, I, I don't know what to say." Diana said definitely moved by her words. "You don't have to say anything just tell Zac to hug you from me okay?" Jessy said. "Jessy? What did you say to Mom she's crying?" Zac asked. "Zac hug her for me. I just thanked her hun, you know for being a good Mom and doing such a good job at raising you guys is all. I didn't mean to make her cry. Zac I assumed she heard it all the time, you should be ashamed. She should hear from you guys too. Don't you guys know how lucky you are to have such cool parents." Jessy explained. "Jessy it's me Mom, honey, if Zac gives you any trouble, makes you cry, you call me and I'll get him for you." Diana offered. "Oh Mom, thanks, but I think you did a good job, I shouldn't have any problems." Jessy replied as Diana agreed but reminded her just in case before saying goodbye. "Jessy that's not fair, she's my Mom and she'll be on your side if we fight. Man I have to tow the line from the start." Zac complained. "Poor Zac. Honest Zac, that's not what I was doing, she's just so easy to talk to and when she called me cutie, I sort of got in her face about it and she was cool and apologized. We just really hit it off hun, I mean everyone must love your Mom she's so cool." Jessy said. "Yeah she is." Zac said as Krystal and Venita finally stopped dancing and headed to the dining room. "Who you talking to? Tell Momma I said hi." Venita yelled. "It's not Momma, it's Zac." Jessy said. "Tell him thanks for the white rose. Cool move." Venita said. "That's not Zac, who is it." Krystal said taking the phone, adding. "Who is this?" "Zac. Who's this?" Zac asked. "Krystal, umm thanks for the rose." Krystal said quietly. "You're welcome. Can I talk to Jessy again?" Zac asked. "Uh huh." Krystal said handing the phone to Jessy, "My god it is Zac." she squealed leaving the room. "Boy you sure can make girls squeal hun." Jessy teased. "Jessy honest I didn't say anything except I was Zac and I asked to talk to you again." Zac insisted. "Hun I know you didn't say anything. Zac please don't feel that way, I wasn't accusing you. Zac talk to me." Jessy pleaded. "I'm sorry Jessy, one of those insecurity flashes, but it's passed. I'm okay now." Zac shared. "Oh having flashes huh?" Jessy teased. "Yeah you got me flashing." Zac teased. "Jesus boy, put your clothes on now." Jessy teased back laughing, " You got that foot left, you sure could use it about now." "Man that hurts, you got me laughing so hard I'm crying Jessy." Zac choked out. "You. Oww my gut. No more okay?" Jessy complained. "Jessy you sure are funny, I mean in a good way. I love that you can make me laugh instead of leaving me to get paranoid about what I said, you know, sometimes the silence really hurts." Zac shared. "Oh sometimes it's worse than a smack in the face. Sometimes I feel like it's a big finger pointing right at me." Jessy shared. "Yeah, that's the worse kind of silence. Attention drawing. Man thirteen is the pits." Zac declared. "Deep, deep pits hun." Jessy agreed. "I guess I ought to let you go, my folks are starting to stared at me." Zac shared. "Zac?" Jessy asked. "Yeah Jessy." Zac answered. "Zac this was so much fun, I mean I like writing to you and all but, to hear your voice, tell your Mom and Dad thanks from me okay, they didn't have to agree and collect charges are more. Here hun write down my number so I don't have to call collect anymore. I get home from school about 4 and Momma don't say much until around 10pm, so you can call anytime then or e-mail me Zac. That won't cost so much." Jessy said and they shared telephone numbers, e-mails, addresses, "Wow you got more e-mail accounts than I do." Zac mentioned. "I'm need a new name and set one up just for you to use." Jessy said her mind spinning, she giggled adding, "If you smells something burning it's my brain, really working overtime." "Oh poor brain. I'll let you go. Jessy can I e-mail you tonight. I know we talked, but." Zac was trying to explain. "Zac you can e-mail me or call me anytime you want to hun. Zac I'll try and remember how hectic you life is hun, but if I ever get short with you take it easy on me okay?" Jessy asked. "I'm glad you said that. Sometime we don't get back until really late. Way after dinner." Zac shared. "Zac if it's really, really late why don't you e-mail me and I'll check everynight before I go to sleep than the ringing phone won't wake anyone." Jessy said noticing the girls were getting impatient. "Hun I really got to go the natives are getting restless." Jessy shared. "Bye Jessy, I'll go write you okay?" Zac asked. "Great I'll be on line soon and maybe we can go chat, I'll make us a room and e you the addy okay?" Jessy asked. "Great. Talk to you late. Bye Jessy. Oh Jessy, you sound as nice as your letters." Zac declared. "You sound nicer than all the videos, cds, tapes, and interviews hun. Goodbye Zac." Jessy said hanging up. "Ahhhhh!!" Jessy screamed. "What? What? A mouse, what?" Venita asked running to her. "No just listening to Hanson and trying to be cool talking to Zac, it just sort of built up." Jessy explained and they laughed together. The girls talked about boys for an hour or so and then Jessy went on line checking for a message from Zac and on BlondeOneForZac she found it. "So you're a blonde too. LOL" it started and went on all about what it was like living in LA and how glad he was that he had someone to share things with, someone who understood. "Wow." Jessy said in amazement as she read on. She quickly replied, saying that was how she felt when she wrote to him the first time that he would understand even though their lives were very different, for some reason she felt they were alike. "I really gotta go the movie is almost over and the girls will be nosing around. I'll write you tomorrow." Jessy wrote back and headed back to the living room where she found the girls sound asleep. She covered them with blankets and turned everything off then returned to her room to call Zac on his line, "Oh hi. I was calling Zac, did I write the number down wrong Ike?" Jessy asked. "No he's just losing a wrestling match to Tay at this moment so I answered." Ike explained. "Ike put the phone by his ear for a minute okay?" Jessy asked. "Listen to this Zac." Ike said. "Zac it's me Jessy and you whoop Tay's butt, I'll talk to you." Jessy said and she heard a loud grunt and Tay screaming not fair. "Give?" Zac asked. "Yeah Man get off me Zac." Taylor said. "Great. Jessy, Jessy now you got to talk to me." Zac proclaimed. "I knew you could whoop him with the right motivation." Jessy giggled and they talked about an hour. "Well hun I got to go, I already left Momma money to cover an hour call so until I babysit tomorrow night I can't talk anymore." Jessy told him and they said their goodbyes and headed to bed.
