Don't Accuse

Chapter Two

Zac must have made at least a dozen trips to check to see if she had woken yet. He spent most of the three hours she slept staring at her. "Son what is it? Let her sleep, please." Diana asked noticing he was missing from the group again. "I don't know what it is Mom. But there is something about her, something special. I feel like I know her." Zac answered. "Zac she told me she just came to town last night, how can you know her?" Diana asked. "I can't answer that Mom, I don't know. It's just a feeling." Zac said following her back to the family room. As she heard the door close, Jessy opened her eyes staring at the closed door. "So I'm special huh?" she thought to herself, "Fired is what I'll be. Get you lazy butt up and stop feeling sorry for yourself." she said quietly to herself swing her feet over the edge of the bed and making it to her feet. "Oohh boy." she said as she braced herself on the dresser looking at her reflection in the mirror. She turned, pulling her shirt up to look at her sore back as she heard the door open. "I'm sorry." Zac said. "Oh it's okay Zac." Jessy said. "Beside the sore back, how ya feeling?" he asked as Isaac pushed past him. "Hey little one. You're looking better and I thought you were pretty to begin with." Isaac said, adding, "How do you feel now?" "I was about to tell your brother, when you barged in." Jessy scorned. "Excuse me. Zac I think she wants to talk to you." Isaac said turning to leave. "Wow it doesn't take much to make you turn tail and run." Jessy bragged. "But, but.." he stuttered. "Yeah I have a butt and I can see you just blown away by it. Shame on you Isaac." she teased. "You are terrible." Isaac protested as Zac laughed. "I can be when I want to be, how about you?" Jessy asked. "I guess we all can be at times." Isaac said leaning in the doorway by Zac. "I'm feeling better, thanks for asking. My headache's gone, just a dull ache where I hit the wall and the scrape on my back hurts like a bi... Oops. Let's just say it hurts." Jessy giggled. "Jessy would you care to stay for supper." Zac said "Supper? Zac what time is it?" Jessy asked frantically. "Almost four Jessy, what's wrong?" Zac asked. "Zac I've got to get the house done and back downtown or I'll lose that job. I need that job." Jessy panicked. "Jessy Mom already called your Boss. I'm not sure what she told him but she praised the work you did and I think she hired you fulltime." Zac explained. "What?" Jessy said turning to face him, a smile covered her face as she gazed into his warm brown eyes. "She hired you to work exclusively for us. You report to Mom from now on." Isaac said as Jessy and Zac continued to gaze at each other. "Cool. Zac I'd love to stay for supper. I think I'm going to speak to your Mom. Where is she?" Jessy asked and when Zac extended his hand, she took it. Zac led her to the family room. "Well you look better." Diana saids smiling. Jessy looked and saw the sorrow in Walker's eyes, "Oh don't look at me that way. It was a stupid accident and I'm gonna be fine. I've survived four brothers, there's no way you're gonna be the end of me." Jessy said hugging him tight. "I'm sorry you got hurt." Walker said kissing the top of her head. "I know you are. I'm sorry if you felt that I ever blamed you. I didn't." Jessy said looking up at him and smiled. "Thanks sweetie." Walker said kissing her forehead. "Zac asked me to supper. Anything I can help with?" Jessy offered. "I never turn down help, besides I'd like to talk to you about working for me, us." Diana said and the two headed to the kitchen, talking and laughing their way through preparing supper. By the time it was ready, Jessy had been convinced to work for them fulltime, a live in Mother's helper. "Jessy I'm concerned over your reluctance to talk about your family. I'd like to meet them." Diana said. "I'll set the table." Jessy changed the subject. For the next couple of weeks, that's exactly the way it went when Diana asked, the subject got changed. She worked here way into her heart and the hearts of the rest of the family. Jessie and Avie adored her, having sleep overs a couple of nights a week in Jessy's room and shopping sprees to the Mall. Mackie was madly in love and quite sure Jessy would be his girlfriend. Zoe had never been happier. Isaac had decided it was better to be Jessy's friend than try for anything else but Taylor and Zac both asked her out, time and time again. The boys became her allies in her quest to hide her past from their Mother. It was a close call that changed everything for Jessy, Zac had come to her rescue with some story about Jessy promising to help him pick out something special for Jessie's birthday. The two of them took off for the Mall together, "Zac thanks for saving my butt again." Jessy said. "Sure thing." Zac said without feeling. "Zac can you pull over so we can talk." Jessy asked and Zac pulled into the next parking lot, parked, turned off her car and turned to face her. "About what?" Zac asked. "Umm about me and why you're always lying or stretching the truth for me. First off thanks. You've been so good to me, never asking why. I'm really grateful." Jessy said lean across the seat to him and kissing him tenderly taking him totally by surprise. First he drew back, gazing into her eyes before he kissed her back with all the emotion that had been building since the first time he laid eyes on her. "Zac" she moaned his name as the passion grew. "I've wanted to do that since the day I laid eyes on you." Zac explained as he gazed into her brilliant blue eyes. "I've wanted you all that time too. I just didn't and don't know what to do about your brother. God Zac, I swore to myself I would't do this. I can't, we can't, Zac I won't let us come between you and Tay. If it comes to that I'm gone." Jessy said backing away. "It won't Jessy I promise you, it won't." Zac said taking her hands in his. Jessy explained how everything thing had gone so wrong all at the same time. It started with her parents divorce and how mean her father had turned, the trouble he caused first with her older brothers, now the younger ones, the rape of her best friend and her suicide, and top of everything else her mother wanted to move to Alaska to get away from it all and she just wasn't going. She had runaway from it all. "Well say something. Zac what are you feeling?" Jessy asked. "That's the mystery. Man you should hear some of the things we've come up with these past couple of weeks. The truth is tame compared to our imaginations hun." Zac said. "Geez sorry to disappoint you. Maybe I should go hack somebody up so you're interested again." Jessy said sarcastically. "Oh babe I'm not making light of your troubles really I'm not. I'm just so relieved that it wasn't any of the terrible things we had come up with hun." Zac said laying across the seat, resting his head in her lap, "Really relieved." he sighed. "Zac what do you think your Mom would say if she knew?" Jessy asked running her hand over his long blonde hair, playing with it. "I'm afraid she'd talk you into going back, leaving me. Jessy you can't leave me okay?" Zac asked sitting up and holding her tight. "I don't want to leave you Zac. I just finally admitted that it's you that I want. I just won't let her know that's all there is to it." Jessy said and they made a pact to keep it their secret.
