Don't Accuse

Chapter Ten

"Walker, look. When is going to forgive himself. Jessy doesn't blame him." Diana said looking at Zac asleep sitting on the floor next to the couch, his head resting near hers. "He loves her so he feels responsible for her safety. When Jessy got hurt he felt he failed her. He feels he should have protected her, and is going overboard now to make sure it doesn't happen again. That's the way I feel about you, I have to keep you safe and protected." Walker said wrapping his arms around her. "Wake him up Walker he's going to have such a stiff neck." Diana said. "Zac, son. Wake up, son." Walker whispered as he shook Zac. "Hey Dad. Oh baby when are you going to forgive yourself. Zac. Wake up hun. Hey Zac. What are you doing sleeping on the floor. I saw you go to bed, when did you come back down?" Jessy asked. "I couldn't sleep so I came back to make sure you were okay. Last I remember, I was telling you that I love you. Owww." Zac said. "Come here, let me rub that." Jessy said as Zac rose and sat in front of her and she massaged his neck and shoulders. "So did you have a good time last night." Walker asked. "I loved dinner, but the party was way crowded. I didn't really care for it." Jessy said and Zac agreed as Jessy finished his neck, "Zac you taking me to church?" Jessy asked kissing his neck. "Me and you in church huh? Could be very interesting. We gonna go with Mom and Dad or alone." Zac asked. "I just as soon go with the family, that's one crowd I like." Jessy said. "Dad got room for us?" Zac asked as Jessy headed to help mom with breakfast. "Let me see those ribs. Much better Jessy. Do they still hurt?" Diana asked. "Nah I don't think." Jessy said touching the area, adding, "Zac it doesn't hurt anymore. I'm getting better." "Thank God I wish it hadn't happened but I learned how important you are to me." Zac said. "Yep and I learned I can trust your judgment about us. So something good came out of something hurtful." Jessy said as Zac held her tight. "I can't help Mom this way, why don't you go take a shower, get some hot water on that knot in your neck. I'll bring you some clean clothes in a minute." Jessy said and Zac headed down the hall. As soon as breakfast was almost done, Jessy headed to the laundry room folding and sorting, starting a new load, before taking Zac some clean clothes. "Hun it's me. I brought your clothes." Jessy said placing his clothes on the vanity. "Oh darn I thought you came to shower with me." Zac said sticking his head out the door. "With Mom and Dad in the kitchen. Umm Zac they like me, but I think I, I. I don't want to think about what would happen Zac." Jessy said putting the towels away and heading to the kitchen with the dish towels before heading to her room to dress. By the time she was done, most of the family was up and at the table. "I'm sorry it was a stupid thing to say Jessy." Zac said entering the room. Jessy turned beet red as everyone looked her way. "Don't look at me, you want to know what stupid thing he said you ask him." Jessy said looking at her plate and playing with her food as Zac to the chair next to her. "I shot off my mouth Jessy and I'm sorry. Babe look at me." Zac pleaded. She slowly turned his way, "I know Zac, I'm just insecure right now, I don't mean to be." Jessy said. "And I do my best jerk routine." Zac teased. "You got that down pat." Jessy teased back. "Hey. Ouch." Zac whined. "Can dish it out but can't take it huh? Wimp." Jessy said. "You wounded me girl." Zac pouted. They finished breakfast and headed to get dressed for church, "I'll clean the kitchen up Jessy if you'll clean Zoe." Diana said. "Sure Mom. Whoa girl did you get any in you?" Jessy asked. "More" Zoe said. "Here you can finish mine." Jessy said trading plates then running to Zoe's room picking out church clothes and taking them to her room. "If you guys are going to church you'd better get up. Mom's cleaning up breakfast dishes now." Jessy said picking out a dress for church. She took Zoe with her to shower washing and drying their hair before making it across the all in towels, laughing and giggling. They dressed and even Zoe got lip gloss before heading out to the family. "Where's the guys?" Jessy asked racing up the stairs. "Mackie? What's up dude it's time to go." Jessy said making her way to his room but nothing. "Mackie? Zac is Mackie with you?" Jessy asked knocking on the door. "Yeah babe." Zac said opening the door. "Mackie you're going to miss Sunday School dude." Jessy said. "Oh no." Mackie panicked still trying to get his belt in the loops. "Come on. I'll help you on the way down." Jessy said and they headed out. "Zac you guys are going to have to drive in. Dad's ready now." Jessy said. "Can I take your car?" Zac yelled. "Keys are on the key rack. I'm riding with your folks." Jessy said. "Jessy." Zac yelled. "What hun? I gotta go." Jessy answered impatiently. "You look pretty." Zac said smiling. "You. Thanks Zac." Jessy said heading down the stairs and headed to the van where Jessy fixed Mackie's belt on the ride to church. Once there Mom and Dad were visiting in the parking lot, "Dad I'm taking the kids to the classrooms." Jessy whispered. "Thanks sweetie. You listen to Jessy young man." Walker said. "Yes Dad." Mackie answered taking Jessy's hand, like Zoe and the headed into church. "Jessie, Avie." Jessy called and the delivered Mackie to his room first, "You girls go on, I'll stay with Zoe until her teacher shows up." Jessy said as more four year olds were dropped off. She found crayons and pictures to color and sat the kids at the table. "Jessy isn't it. You work for the Diana and Walker Hanson right?" Reverend Miller asked. "Yes Reverend Miller." Jessy said. "Dear I have a problem, the Teacher just called and can't make it. Could you please stay while I find a replacement?" Reverend Miller asked. "Of course I'd be glad to help out. Is there a story I can read to them, the coloring won't last more than another five to ten minutes." Jessy said. He left her with the lesson and handouts and headed to find a replacement. Jessy loved the class. She and the kids got along well and they behaved wonderfully for her. Reverend Miller returned empty handed, and stayed until he realized how good Jessy was with the kids. As class ended they headed up to the church to join their parents singing this week's song about David and Goliath. "There's Jessy Zac. Looks like she taught Sunday School this morning." Mom said pointing to the entering classes. Jessy was speaking with Reverend Miller when Zac approached, "Reverend Miller. Jessy I was worried. I couldn't find you." Zac said. "Zac she was wonderful helping out when Mrs. Smith didn't show and I think the kids adored her." Reverend Miller said. "Zac I'm sorry, I was stuck with eight four year olds before I knew what happened." Jessy explained. "Thanks again Jessy, if you'd like to teach permanently let me know." Reverend Miller said. "Come one Zoe, Mackie, girls, it's time to take our seats." Jessy said. After the service ended they headed to the van loading up Zoe and Mackie before heading out in Jessy's car.
