"Mother I don't know what to make of it. It's a lot of blood. It's fresh too, so it has to be theirs and all over the back of her dress. Yes, she could have, but explain the blanket one spot so it had to have been spread out. If you were afraid of bleeding through wouldn't you leave it folded?" he said. "Walker I don't know what to make of it either. You did talk to Isaac about protection, right? I know I told you to talk to all of them. You did right? Walker why aren't you answering me?" Diana asked. "Yes I talked to them, but it was more along the line of protecting them from disease, trying to scare them away from all the girls throwing themselves at them. I told them someday they would find the girl of their dreams and they would know she's the one and they wouldn't have to worry about that." he said. "Walker Hanson what you're saying is you point blank told him to have unprotected sex with Kaitlyn, and now it looks like he has because there is no condom in the garbage. Did you check in his old room, the bathroom, please let there be a used condom in the house. The treehouse, go check the treehouse. That used to be their favorite spot. I'll hold on." Diana said. "Worse news mother, there's a blood stain on the floor of the treehouse, small but it's fresh too and there is no sign of a condom wrapper, used one. What have I done. You should have talked to the boys, If it wasn't for you, we never would have made it ourselves all those years ago." he said. "Walker we'll just make do. We always have. We'll pray and we'll just make do with whatever comes our way. Are you on your way, please say yes, I'm going to need you here by my side." Diana asked. "I'm on my way. You're right mother, we'll just make do with whatever comes our way. I love you." he said. "I love you too dear. Drive safe and I'll see you soon." she said hanging up and thinking of the possibilities that she may be facing. "At least he wants to marry her." she thought. She had a knack for finding the silver linings in all their black clouds. "I know she said and rushed to their room and she opened the jewelry case, searching until she found what she was looking for, a small black velvet ring box. She opened it and looked at it. "I know you believed Isaac and Kaitlyn were destined to be mother. I've decided that you should be what binds them together. I'm sure that's fine with you. I love you and miss you." she said then she blew a kiss upwards. She had made it back down the stairs, when she noticed lights in the driveway. She opened the door, not recognizing the car, but she recognized the driver who was kissing the passenger, it was her Isaac. "Kaitlyn?" she called and the blonde he was kissing, stopped and turned, opened the door and rose. "My God Kaitlyn, you've grown so, so.." was all she could get out before the tears flowed. "It's me Mom. It's okay cry. Get it all out. I'm back home finally. Back where I belong." Kaitlyn said rushing to her and holding her tightly as she cried. "And she's not going anywhere." Isaac said carrying Kaitlyn's bags into the house and returning to the two most important women in his life. "Mom come on inside so you can see her. She's beautiful." Isaac said trying to pull his mother into the house. "No, let me be." she sobbed. "Mom it's okay. Mom I'm sorry, I didn't know you couldn't stop them. I just knew that you were superMom to me and when I had problems, I went to you and you always fixed them. I didn't know about the law and all. I know you would have stopped them, if you could have. I knew you loved me and I'm sorry that I asked the impossible of you." Kaitlyn said holding her tighter. "Oh Kaitlyn you were just a baby yourself, why would you know that it was an impossible thing you asked. No child should have to be put in that position. Sad day, never should have happened." Diana said. "Isaac's right come in so I can get a look at you. You feel too skinny." Diana said, adding, "I like your hair. It's as long as mine." The three went inside, "Kaitlyn this is your new house. Now let me get a look a you. Beautiful is right. I still see my little Kaitlyn though." Diana said beaming. "I've missed you Mom, our talks, your hair, your hugs." Kaitlyn said and as Diana opened her arms the tears filled her eyes as she rushed to her and they stood hugging each other. "Mom what's for supper?" Isaac asked lifting his head from the refrigerator. "Boy that's a familiar sight. I guess somethings never change." Kaitlyn said looking at Isaac. "You can say that again, wait until you see what they pack away these days." Diana said. "Isaac we have company for dinner so what would you think we are having?" she asked. "Company's favorite, chicken, Rex's to be exact." Isaac said smiling at Kaitlyn. "That's right the boys should be home anytime now." Diana said. "Wow Rex's I wonder if it's as good as I've remembered all these years." Kaitlyn said. "We'll find out soon. What's this Isaac said about volunteer work." Diana asked. "Red Cross Volunteer Kaitlyn King. It's a summer gig, we trained for emergencies, and then we all got our summer assignments. I'm one of four assigned to a small Missouri town still trying to recover from the floods. We stay in the shelter with the Smiths, John and Mary and we're beautifying downtown, right now, doing a little landscaping. If an emergency strikes that's the only time we get.. back.. Oh my, is that Jessie?" Kaitlyn asked. "Yes, that's little Jessie. Not so little anymore." Diana answered. "She's quite a looker." Kaitlyn said watching her ask Isaac and then as she stared, Kaitlyn smiled. "Kaitlyn it is you, you're pretty." Jessie said. "So are you. I read you're a dancer." Kaitlyn asked. "Yeah, I love ballet. But lately I've been trying other things." Jessie answered. "That's good. Dancing has been my life these past six years. I've traveled all over Europe, and the United States with my dance troupe. Mostly modern. Maybe we can dance together." Kaitlyn said. "Now?" Jessie asked. "I'm game. What to? Go see what's in the player." Kaitlyn said walking over to the black case and pulling out her dance shoes, and slipping them on and tying them then walking over to Isaac, "I need a bathroom hun." Kaitlyn asked and Isaac slipped his arm around her and led her down the hall. "Here Kaitlyn, I pulled one out before I got your bags out of the car." Isaac said handing her an Always. "You're awfully good at this other half stuff." Kaitlyn said kissing him and as he kissed her back she moaned. "Isaac Hanson I do believe your mother is up to something. She keeps staring at me." Kaitlyn said. "You're beautiful, You're her baby. She hasn't seen you in six years. Give her a break." Isaac said. "Honey serious. It's more than that. It's like she knows what we did." Kaitlyn said. "Kaitlyn it isn't written on your forehead, face, or even on, oh Kaitlyn what if we did, uh, you know, what if, if, oh Kaitlyn I'll never leave you. I'll be by your side. I know I don't have to do anything but I love you, and I'd die if what I did hurt you." Isaac stammered. "Jesus Isaac what did you just say. What if? I wasn't worried you'd leave me. Why are you so worried you hurt me?" Kaitlyn said confused. "I'm sorry, Kaitlyn, I'm just scared." isaac said. "Why honey?" Kaitlyn asked putting her arms around him and looking into the window of his soul. "Kaitlyn, do you think I'd be a good Dad?" Isaac. "How could you not be. You've got one of the best examples. Besides, you are such a kind person, our children are going to be so lucky. You're their Dad, Isaac Hanson and they've got your folks as Grandparents. Man am I ever going to pay for the broken window, the puke on the floor, the juice spills, the potty words, and for screwing their son." Kaitlyn said. "Why do you say that?" Isaac asked. "Because they are going to spoil our children to the point they literally stink." Kaitlyn said. "God Kaitlyn. I love you so much." Isaac said taking her in his arms, kissing her from the depth of his soul. "Oh Isaac" Kaitlyn cried. "Man I'm crying at everything. What's the matter with me?" she added. "Just guilt. You feel guilty having your way with me. You took my virginity and you can't handle it, is all? You're just afraid that you'll screw up, and you'll lose me?" Isaac said. "Oh Isaac, you didn't lose me these past six years, I can't imagine anything that can really pull us apart. And if there is such a thing, it's got to get through me first. I quite fighting last time because he beat me. I'd beat the shit out of him today. I took lessons. That's how dumb they are, they paid for kick boxing lessons, so I can kick his ass if he ever, um, lifts a, um hand, um to me." Kaitlyn choked out and collapsed in Isaac's arms sobbing, "He hurt me so." she said between sobs, "I thought he would never stop and" she sobbed. "I thought he'd kill me there and nobody helped me." she finished and they both collapsed to the floor crying. "God Kaitlyn I'm sorry." Isaac cried. "I love you." At the end of the hallway, Diana was about to collapse to the floor as Walker came to her side and supported her. She collapsed in his arms "He hurt and she thought he was going to kill her, and nobody helped her." she sobbed. "Diana what could we do. He would have had us arrested." Walker said. "So what? She was my baby and I stood there and just watched." she screamed. "Our kids would have had you, if'd I gone to jail for killing him. She had no one. Look what I did, nothing, I abandoned her when she needed me most. Because I was afraid to do something, anything." she cried. "Momma I don't feel that way, honest I don't. I never thought that of you. All these years I knew you loved me. I still felt it. That's why they've hated me so. Because no matter what they did. They couldn't make me forget how much you loved me. Believe me, they tried. But that light never went out, I always smiled and said, fine, whatever, I don't care, do what you must, it doesn't matter, Momma Hanson loves me. So they have paid everyday since they've taken me from you." Kaitlyn said hugging them. "Momma you could never kill, it's not in your nature. You watched a monster, take and beat your baby and you still couldn't kill. God wouldn't let you. I know you weren't happy with him, but you trusted him that I would be okay, and I was. Not happy until today, but I was okay. Momma he never gave me anything to deal with that I couldn't handle and he never will. You taught me that. How do you think I survived, because you taught me that." Kaitlyn told her and for the first time in all those years, the connection was strong, the fire came back in both their eyes. "Baby I love you." Diana said holding Kaitlyn tight. "I've always known that, that's what kept me going." Kaitlyn said, adding, "Thank you for loving me Mommy." "Isaac on top ot the fridge, there's something I want you to have son." Diana said. "Mom it's perfect. So fitting. Thank you Mom." Isaac said returning. "Kaitlyn honey, Kaitlyn?" he said. "What hun?" she asked. "Kaitlyn Diana King you're what makes my life complete. You're the first thing I think of when I wake and you're on my mind as I fall to sleep. And with you by my side I can fly to the moon and around the sun. Kaitlyn I've always known, you're the one. Always and you always will be. Make my life complete and say you'll be my wife." he said on bended knee, every word filled with love. "Isaac Hanson of course I will. I want nothing more in life, then to be by your side as your wife. I love you more than anything and everything too." Kaitlyn said and as he opened the box Kaitlyn started to collapse but the folks were there. "Mom that's your Mom's ring?" Kaitlyn said. "That's right Kaitlyn, take it and love it, like she loved you both. I couldn't think of anything more right than that ring on your finger. Unless it's both of those rings on your finger." Diana said out of true love and Kaitlyn looked back at Isaac and extended her left hand and as they all watched, he slid the ring onto her finger. "Perfect fit. Thanks Grandmother, I know you're watching and smiling." Isaac said looking up to Kaitlyn and they looked upward as he rose to her side. "I love you Kaitlyn." Isaac said. "I know Isaac, and I love you too." Kaitlyn said. "We know, we know." Walker and Diana said as both couples kissed.
"Chicken, I smell chicken. It's about time." Kaitlyn said. "Oh I never went to the bathroom and I'm going to be sorry if I don't go now." she whispered and she headed down the hall picking up the Always on the floor inside the door, then closing it. "Walker what did the attorneys say?" Diana asked as they turned to set the table. "His first reaction is that there is no such place, but he would look further. He wants to talk to you, I told him you'd meet him tomorrow morning 10am and he thought it would be wise to meet Kaitlyn, so son I guess you should let her know. The four of us will go. Taylor we'll need you to watch the house tomorrow morning until after lunch." Dad said. "Attorneys, what?" Taylor asked.
"Kaitlyn I need to talk to you." Isaac said rapping on the door. "What hun?" she said opening the door and Isaac walked in, closing the door behind them. They returned to the kitchen, "I don't believe it. Wow, you grew up nice." Taylor said. "Wow is right, I remember a stick girl with no front teeth." Zac said. "Well thanks I think. You guys did a pretty good job of growing up too. Hey Zac. Hey Tay. Hey Mackie. Boy have you grown, you were just a couple of weeks old last time I saw you." Kaitlyn said. "I'm starved. What'd you have to do, kill and clean the chickens yourself." Kaitlyn teased. "That's Kaitlyn all right." Tay and Zac laughed as everyone gathered around the table, the family complete.
