Day Has Come

Part Thirty-five

They pulled into the Mall, "Everybody out and single file. First one to wander off, the outing is over with, we'll go back home and I won't try this ever again. Now that you know the rule, let's go have fun." Jessy headed out and they made their way to the Arcade starting at the change machine filling everyone's pocket with quarters. "I've got Zoe and Mackie, you two girls can venture out on your own if you'd like to just remember strangers can be nice ordinary looking people. If anyone gets too friendly, come find me. Okay girls?" Jessy said. "Sure Jessy, we'll be careful." Jessie said and she and Avie headed towards the basketball shoot. Jessy watched Zoe and Mackie in the ball pit and kiddie gym, then they rode the assorted rides, all the while Jessy kept an eye on the whereabouts of Jessie and Avie. While she was teaching Mackie to shoot a basket, the girls came for more money. "Jessie here's five for you and Avie here's five for you. You doing okay by yourselves?" Jessy asked already knowing the answer. "Yeah Jessy we talked to some girls for a while but they had to leave. We really like to drive the car and fly the plane. We'll see you later." Jessie said and they were off. Zoe was back in the ball pit and she was helping Mackie improve his shot, "Hey Jessy, I thought that was you. Remember me?" he asked. "Sure you're with the Tulsa Register, how's news lately." Jessy smiled and asked. "You know that tip we got the first time we met you, I got the same call again." he said. "Don't look at me. Go buy another test if you want, I ain't pregnant. You know I've gotten to know my new brothers quite well. I don't put much stock in your rumor. I'm not saying it's impossible. But in my opinion it's wishful thinking, a real nasty thing to pull." Jessy said. "What you doing today? Zac here." he asked. "No the guys are busy working on the music for the upcoming concert. Mom and Dad and Grampa were up all night with an Army buddy of Grampa's, he passed away this morning. So to help out I'm here with the younger Hansons is all." Jessy explained as Mackie made a basket on his own. "Way to go. Keep up the good work Mackie. You'll be the next Michael Jordan at this rate." Jessy said high fiving him, then hugging and kissing him, taking a peek at Jessie and Avie then smiling and waving at Zoe. "You're pretty good at this responsibility game Jessy." he said. "Thanks. I appreciate your saying so. I may not be married to Zac yet but they are my family already." Jessy said. "Jessy who do you think would be cruel enough to pull a stunt like this?" he asked. "I'm happy to report that I don't know anyone that cruel. Thank God." Jessy said, adding, "And I don't care to either. I'm tired of the bad guys always getting the press. What kind of message you guys sending anyway at the Register we don't care about you Mr. Law Abiding Citizen but you Mr Law Breaker, you Ms. Dirt Disher, you Mr. Disrespectful, let me send my top reporter out to see if they can get the scoop. You've got a lousy job and I sure wouldn't want to be you." Jessy said check on Jessie and Avie, Zoe and then helping Mackie focus on the net. "You mean that don't you Jessy?" he asked. "Sorry if it offends you, but no I personally could not do that day after day, it would eventually destroy me." she told him getting out more money for the girls "Last round girls. We'll have to head home after this is gone okay? Make sure you play your favorites this time around." Jessy said as they headed out. "Ready to get out Zoe girl?" Jessy asked and received a scowl and a big "No". "How dare I suggest leaving the balls." Jessy laughed. "You've given me something to think about Jessy. I think I'm heading to lunch, pick up the Mrs. and talk about a career change. Thanks Jessy. Every time our paths have crossed something good has come from it. First you get engaged to Zac and now I'm pretty serious of making definite changes at the Register or leaving it." he said leaving. Jessy watched as his step lightened and he started whistling on his way out of the Mall. "Way to go Mackie. You are definitely on a roll." Jessy said hugging him. Jessie and Avie were on their way back up front, "You hungry or thirsty, little dude?" Jessy asked. "Yeah." he answered. "We are too sis." Jessie called her bringing a smile to her face. "What you guys want?" Jessy asked. "Pizza" they answered in unison and Zoe screamed "Me do. Me do." "Well pizza it shall be. Let me call your brothers and see if they want to join us?" Jessy said dialing the house. "Hey big brother. We are headed to Pizza Hut next door to us, you guys done and want to join us?" she asked. "Sounds good but we're not done Sis. At least another half hour or more." Isaac said as Zac grabbed the phone. "I miss you come home?" he asked. "I miss you too, but hun you know you won't concentrate if I'm there." Jessy explained. "I will, come home." Zac pleaded. "Zac I don't like having to be the heavy here, its not fair." Jessy complained. "Be that way." Zac pouted. "I'm taking the kids for pizza and when I call before coming home and find out you pouted and nothing got done, the kids and I are going to the water park for the rest of the day." Jessy warned. "Jessy don't.You're right, I'm not being fair to you. I'm sorry. You guys have a nice lunch. Bring us pizza when you come home. I'll go back to work because I love you Jessy." Zac promised. "I love you too Zac. See you soon." Jessy said and they left the arcade. "Jessy, hey Jessy" she heard and turned to see the reporters from the Tulsa Star. "Hey guys. Don't tell me you got the call too. I just finished with Dave for the Register a few minutes ago. No I am not. And I don't think too kindly of the person doing this. It's so unfair. Tell you what, you two drop this and I'll talk the guys into giving you a scoop on the upcoming Concert. Just the Start and Register. If this dirtbag is going to use you, I'll bribe you into not being used. Deal you drop it and I'll get you a Fan Appreciation Concert interview." Jessy offered. "Deal Jessy. Your word is good with us, let us buy you guys lunch." he offered. "As friends, not reporters?" Jessy asked. "As friends, I'd like that. I'm Mike, she's Julie." Mike said. "Let's go we want Pizza Hut pizza right troops." Jessy said and the kids squealed, jumping up and down. "Where you parked?" Mike asked. "Outside the main doors Mike." she answered. "Us to, let's go." he said. "Single file troops, Mike could you be line leader?" Jessy asked noticing her, Taylor's ex-girlfriend Jaime, headed their way. "Line leader, whoa don't know if I know how, will you help me?" Mike asked Jessie. "Sure it's a piece of cake. You a friend of Jessy's?" Jessie asked. "Sure hope so, she's special. I hope I'm a friend. I know her and your brother Zac. Let's move 'em out." Mike said as Jessie told him what to do and they led the line from the Mall as Jessy looked back to she Jaime throwing a fit, cursing, screaming and knocking things over as security closed in on her. Jessy dialed her cell, "Tulsa Chamber of Commerce, how may I help you." Chele answered. "By getting me info on the concert and it's effect on local businesses, you know hotel bookings, restaurant reservations, that kind of stuff." Jessy asked. "Well funny you ask that, I'm working on it right now for my boss. I told him they might do a second show so he wants to know the impact on the local business economy. Jessy this is big, really big. Every hotel witin fifty miles of Tulsa is booked. Hotels farther out are chartering buses to take the fans to and from the concert to get their business. Same goes for campgrounds, B&B's, and even Summer cottages are being used by fans. Haven't had much response from the restaurants yet but we've been flooded with calls and the 800 is rining off the wall." Chele shared. "Great this is what I need, can you e-mail it to the house, I'm headed to lunch with Mike and Julie of the Star, they're treat the kids and I to pizza." Jessy said. "The Star, the PG HG Star?" Chele exclaimed. "Repeat it." Jessy said. "No not again?" she said. "Sure I saw her with my own eyes." Jessy said. "Jaime?" she asked. "Yeppers now to tell. I don't really want to alone." Jessy said. "Wait for me to get there. Can you. I'll get out early, bossman owes me a couple of hours for working me through my lunch a couple of times. I'll get this done and head home. Wait for me?" Chele asked. "Sure thing sis. I'll see you at home. Bye." Jessy said putting her phone away. "Problems with you Sister?" Julie asked. "Not that you were eaves dropping, My sister and I are fine, she's just not to thrilled I'm in your company. You see she is working for the Chamber, you guys have a bad rep down there. You really ought to do something about that." Jessy said opening the truck doors and loading up the kids. "Where you parked?" she asked. "Farther down this aisle." Mike pointed. "Drop the tailgate and hop on I'll give you a lift." Jessy said and she took them down the row to their car and they followed her to Pizza Hut. They entered and Mike ordered for the group while the kids colored and played games at the table until lunch arrived. "Man this one has a healthy appetite." Mike said looking a Zoe's five crusts on her plate. "A passion we share, pizza." Jessy laughed. "I know I don't have to mention this but I will, to make sure we understand each other, this is between friends and if I see it in print, I will come after you with every thing I have. or ever will have and you will hope that you had left it just friends." Jessy said politely with a smile on her face. The look in her eyes let them know that she was dead serious. Jessy placed her to go order and they finished their lunch. "Jessy you tell there parents, the kids are the politest, most behaved kids I've ever had the privilege to meet." Mike asked. "Sure will Mike and thanks again for lunch." Jessy said paying for her order and she led the kids out to the truck and they loaded up and headed home.
