November 1990
Band formed as Fourplay, having met through New Plymouth Folk Club. Original line-up: Sandy Weir, Deb Parry, Andy Bassett, Adrian Chivers. Soon changed name to Four On The Floor, as there was another New Plymouth band named Fourplay (and there's been another since, plus Bob James' band in the USA and probably many others…).
February 13 1991
Debut gig playing to the crew of the new Rainbow Warrior at New Plymouth Yacht Club on Andy's 32nd birthday.
March 1991
Adrian Chivers left. The band continued as a trio - so needed a new name!
September 1991
First venture into the studio, recording two songs - "Cruel Sister" and "Poverty Knock" at Alan Muggeridge's Rowan Studio, in Kaponga. Both were traditional songs, with Deb on lead vocal. Linda Glover played flute on "Cruel Sister." Both tracks remain unreleased.
May 1992
At Deb's suggestion, band adopted name Uncle John's Band, after Andy brought the Grateful Dead tribute album Deadicated to a practice, featuring the Indigo Girls' recording of "Uncle John's Band."
December 1992
Trish Kane appeared with Andy, Sandy and Mike Harding in spoof band Alvin Bordello & The Maisonettes.
March 1993
Trish joined the band. Debut performance with UJB at a lunchtime gig in the Taranaki Festival of the Arts on St Patrick's Day, at nine days notice. Trial by fire for Trish!
December 1994
Andy established home studio, Little Pink.
18 March 1995
Andy and Trish married at Bowl of Brooklands. Band performed specially written song "Thanks To You."
May 1995
Still in need of a lead instrument, Peter Hickey invited to join in May 1995, on saxophone, guitar and vocals.
December 1996
Recorded "Putting On The Squeeze" for Tahora 21 CD. Track recorded live in three takes, minus Sandy and with Wayne Morris on drums. CD set released in November 1997. Also featured Vanessa McLellan singing "Small Town" written by Andy, who played guitar on the track (Mike Harding played harmonica, a role he repeated on UJB's version). Peter appears on the CD playing sax on numerous other tracks, the slut.
April 1998
