Head for unknown : Organisation had a contract for maintaning the Unix based system developed by some body, implemented by some body. The application was unknown, only known part was application was runing on some unix and some Cobol. The sysem got crashed and no body was knowing what had happened, but nobody was able to retrive the information last fed in and was panic in all users. After going thru the skills and interaction with many consultants in the oraganisation I had taken up the challenge. At client site discovered that there is nobody like system administrator or even vertical or parrallel knowledge. A brand new copy of manuals 10 years old. First I have found out the operating system version, the version and type of the COBOL and write/compile a simple program to get the feel of system for 2 days and restored the every bit of the application within 5 days.

Plan for work : While working with one of Government application. The organisation has taken a job to develop the examination application and process it in house. The application has got clearance from the client and started processing. The bottleneck occured in the process where you can expect, it is in the printing the hall tickets. I have prepared the plan for processing and printing while getting the exact capability of printer. From CEO to Peon every body was enganed in filling up the envelops. The qestion was asked to a great marketing person about the non availability of address for one of the candidate. He promptly provided the solution that you post the hall ticket, candidate himself will come running saying that his address is not mentioned.

First Program : After learning the languges in college and working enough to write a program, I was trying my first cobol program. A simple listing program writing a totals from previous bunch was the specification. It took 2 hours to write a program and 10 hours to compile and to get the desired results after series of compilation.
