CANNES - Celebrated American pop stars The Returnables are the toast of this year's Cannes Film Festival, and the buzz could carry them all the way to the prestigious Palme d'Or. Their concert documentary "$50 and Free Beer" is in competition for the festival's top prize, and they just inked a five-picture, first-look deal with Miramax.
The Hollywood Reporter jumped on The Returnables bandwagon early, describing the Chicago musicians as "visionary, and more than a little handsome." And Variety's Army Archerd wrote that "in a year when Baz Luhrmann's overheated 'Moulin Rouge' is praised as groundbreaking, The Returnables could very well be kings."
