Finally, the Line has come back to the Web!
Hi, my full name is Kyle Nathan Moritz, born on August 17, 1982 to my parents Terry and Kelly, and throughout my life I have been deeply invlolved in music. Sinse the third grade I have played the violin (38th in the state, not that thats means a woop to anyone though) and a few years ago I got a guitar for Christmas and sinse then I've just been practicing it up. A friend of mine Andrew Cahak, introduced me to Kevin, and Joe, and we just hit it off after that. I work at the Collins Rd. 5 theater with Kevin too, so stop off and see us sometime. My favorites things to do are work, play guitar, and sleep. Oh and wrestling too can't forget that, "don't make us layeth the smacketh down on your candy ass". I like to eat, and watch the cubs, and go bowling. I also love spending time with my girlfriend Erica......I should write a song about us...hmm....
Kevin W. Sloan (Sloaner B), born April 9, 1979 to William and Kayla
Sloan. I don't have much of a musical background. All I can remember about
music before my teenage years was my mom practicing her saxophone, and
listening to oldies in my dads truck, and thinking, "What the hell is going
on? This is terrible." I used to sit with them in church when they'd sing
every hymn completely out of tune. I had to plug my ears and hum to myself
so it wouldn't make me insane, and it just drove me further away from any
urge I had to listen to music. Then, just before 7th grade, I started watching
MTV at home after school, mostly for the girls, but my interest in music
arose. Gangsta' Rap had caught my attention. Soon afterwards I realized how
terrible it was. The lyrics were worthless and meaningless, and it wasn't
long until I grew hate for that whole genre of music, but in my quests to
find the best new rap albums, I found other styles of music that were much
more to my liking. Mainly rock and alternative, with some R&B mixed in. I
began listening to the radio more, and singing along with songs, and I found
that I wasn't nearly as terrible of a singer as my parents were. I had even
heard that my grandma was a really good singer, and I thought maybe I had
stolen some of that from her. Although i couldn't have taken much(I'm still
not a very good singer), I felt like I had some talent for music and decided
to ask my parents if they would buy me a guitar. My parents bought me my
first bass guitar for my 17th birthday. I played it for about two weeks and
didn't touch it again until I graduated from Marion High School in 1997.
That summer, I was so bored one day that i decided to take it out of the
corner and give it another go. Within a few weeks I was able to play along
with almost the whole "Weezer-Blue Album". The next spring at Kirkwood, I
took a bass guitar class, where I was taught a few more things about scales
and chords, which helped me improve quite a bit. Not long after that I
decided I wanted to start playing in a band cause I was tired of playing
along with cds, I wanted to play original songs. For a while me and Joe
used to play Weezer songs in his basement with just bass and drums, but that
quickly became boring, we needed a guitarist. We played some with awesome
guy Joe Fowler, from "Floods of Fear", and with our pal, Heather Hoelzen,
until December of 1998, when we met Kyle. Shortly thereafter we realized how
lucky we were to have met him, because hes a great guitarist and a great
friend, and he was the final piece needed to make "Line" a reality. Since
then I haven't taken more than a week break from practicing my bass, although
there are many weeks where I only get to once or twice. I'm really still not
that good though, but for the style we play I suppose I'm fine, and I've
learned to sing and play at the same time.
Besides my musical career(career? right), I like to fish, camp, golf,
going kayaking and canoeing, going to movies, going to parties, and meeting
people(especially cool girls that have brains and aren't sluts. Sorry, I'm a
little bitter over a recent relationship). Amanda and Jill, you ladies kick
ass. I've attended four semesters at Kirkwood Community College, majoring in
Business Management, but I've taken a year and a half off for some reason,
even though I only need six credits for my AA Degree. I plan on finishing
sometime soon. Also, I am the manager at Collins Road 5 Theatres in Cedar
Rapids. I've been working for Carmike Cinemas since April of 1995 and it's
the only job I've ever had. I'm pretty pathetic. Unfortunately(Its funny
for real), our company has been experiencing some financial difficulties and
have started closing some of the smaller, lower grossing theatres. Westdale
and Stage are already gone and I'd be next. Thats why I hope we can maybe
get successful with the band, cause I would love more than anything to
actually make a career out of music. Theres nothing I can think of that
would be more fulfilling to me than making and playing music for
a living.
See ya.
