New Year's. First day of 1999. The adults gather at Tony's grandma's house for a nice quiet prayer meeting in the Bayou Club (A rather nice gated community in Pinellas Park, FL) Tony and Linh are standing in a bed of a truck parked in the road lighting fireworks. They light some fountains fireworks..and then they reach the sparklers. Now, small children play with fireworks...they're safe right? Absolutely UNTRUE! Linh lights a sparkler and when it's just about to burn out, Linh sends it flying through the night sky..it lands and burns out in the dirt. Tony attempts the same...Tony, lacking any sort of throwing skill, launches the sparkler...into a palmetto bush approximately 5 feet from where the truck is parked. They ignore it for a bit until the bush bursts into a huge inferno of flames. The tree that was surrounded by the bush was engulfed by flames. Pine cones were exploding, pine needles were raining down and ash floated onto roofs and streets. The fire was about 2-3 stories tall and was about 8 feet in diameter at the bottom. Adults were alerted, but the fire died when it had no bush left to burn.
