Songs in the key of A min, and other assorted things
These are the bulk of my lyrical work over the years. Return visitors may notice the page has been split up in an attempt to make it easier to navigate. I thought I'd do it by subject, but since just about every song could be construed as a love song, I figured if I tried to put them together by a rough timeline, we'd all be happier for it.
Each section contains lyrics written in that period, or otherwise seemed to me most appropriate to put there. I've included notes as to what some of the songs are about or where I came up with them, etc...Help yourself and please visit often, I'll try to add new works as they come to me.
Let me know what you think!
The Early Stuff These lyrics date back to my high school days when I was the bassist in The Scatman Crothers Five, my band way back when. This section includes some early college stuff, too.
Papa HookahThese lyrics were partly cowritten with my friend and ex-Scatman Sean(Papa, and Hookah's me), and were intended for us to break out on the acoustic singer/songwriter scene in Athens. He would sing, I'd play, we'd dodge beer bottles...you know how it goes. For better or worse, we never got around to doing that, so the only legacy these songs have is a tape we made of some of our stuff. Nonetheless, a productive time for me, and some good stuff in here...Papa Hookah was just something I made up to put on the tape..
International House of LyricsThese were written sometime between the Papa Hookah era and the following Matthew Post days during my frequent visits to IHOP, my usual late-night studying/writing cave. Some good stuff in here that I'm holding onto to hopefully develop eventually.
The Matthew Post Era This is from another band I flirted with but yet never came to fruition. We were going to use stage names so the band would spell out PBR (Post, Barker, Reiley, I believe were going with). We figured a town like Athens would appreciate the joke...Anyway, I took my alias ala Golden Smog...middle name, street you grew up on. Some good stuff...a lot of emphasis on rural, americana themes.
A Work in ProgressI got a wild hair 'crost me arse and a penchance for self-aggravation...watch a concept album as it unfolds...slowly but surely!
