From Screamer magazine, October 1992 Alternative Approach by Taylor Alderdice [short review of Jesus Lizard at Club With No Name, Hollywood] Sharing the bill that night was Zoo Entertainment recording artists Course of Empire. I've been intrigued by these intellectualizers ever since their CD arrived a couple of months ago, and I wondered if they could pull off such musical complexities live. Although not quite as precise as their album, the spirit of their live performance was far more aggressive than their recorded work indicates, yet they still maintained a haunting, worldly feel. A&R rep Anna Loynes related an amazing road anecdote: their U-Haul came unhitched from their vehicle and passed them on the open road (in supreme Flintstones fashion). No one was injured since the inevitable collision course was with a wall, and although it could have been disastrous for their equipment, damage was minimal due to the drum cases being packed first, thus cushioning the impact - a good tip for touring bands and a possible new twist on endorsements for drum manufacturers (on a par with Samsonite luggage).
