From the Spinnaker (University of North Florida), February 12th, 1992 Music Reviews by Anay Booth Course of Empire Course of Empire This is an album filled with massive sounds and epic sounding riffs. The title is a perfect description of the music on the record. Most of the songs on the album, such as "Ptah" and "Copious" are hard rocking tunes with bass heavy guitars reminiscent of Metallica. Yet there are some very surprising songs on the album. "Cradle Calls" begins with about three minutes of bongo drums. Makes the listener wonder if this is the same album that's been playing all along. "Sins of the Fathers" is another surprise. A quick acoustic song with a very catchy riff that is quite different from the heavy electric guitar on the rest of the album. One of the most moving songs on the album is "Dawn of the Great Eastern Sun," which is a stirring, hauntingly beautiful instrumental that transports the listener to a sunrise in a distant land unsoiled by human touch. Give this album a listen. It will definitely grow on you every time you listen to it. A happening album.
