Electro-retro! Trauma Pet @ Alternative Alley

September 2005

Two ladies, two guitars, synth, voice and a pre-programmed backing track were the main attraction at Trauma Pet’s gig last Thursday (25 September) at Alternative Alley. For the decently sizeable crowd present, some of which were there out of curiosity to see what former local scenester Elie was up to nowadays, and some to sample the duo’s electro-noir they had read about in the local media. I can safely few were disappointed.

Trauma Pet’s set, though relatively brief, was quite direct and focused, kicking off with early track Apology (which openly flaunted Trauma Pet’s synth-pop influences) and rolling through a mixture of slower (and darker) numbers and a couple of more upbeat tunes, of which the somber Puppet and Controlled Hysteria – infectious melody, 80s throwback and all – were easily the best on the night. Having already garnered a following in the UK and more recently signing a record deal, Trauma Pet’s star is firmly in the ascendant!
