Pen_Demonium
all over the place!
As one half of
IQ - easily one of Malta’s top Hip Hop acts - rapper Pen_Demonium has
etched out a reputation that is as much built on his knack for the
spoken word as it is for his broad musical perspective. And he’s had his
fair share of studio experience, not only to record IQ’s string of
original tunes, but also in his collaborations with several local
artists, including Olivia Lewis, Marvic Lewis and La Barokka. His latest
venture, Summer In The City, is in fact another collaboration, this time
with Dave Sanitarium. The new single takes it cue from The Lovin’
Spoonful’s hit tune from the 1960s, but shoots off at a tangent once the
rap comes into play!
But the studio isn’t the only place Pen_Demonium takes his rap. He was
recently in London to participate in The Jump Off, widely acknowledged
as the UK’s biggest Hip Hop night. The event involves live, spontaneous
rapping by budding MC’s battling each other to be top dog for the night.
Although he didn’t win, Pen_Demonium was one of the finalists out of 13
contestants. That experience, combined with the growing popularity of
urban music here in Malta, has been highly motivating to Pen_demonium,
and he believes that Malta is finally ready to embrace the street
culture that has grown from strength to strength around the world and
seeped into various cultures and languages.
