FABRIZIO FANIELLO - WHEN WE DANCED
It is no secret that Fabrizio’s career has its roots firmly set within
the festival scenario, but with every song he records, the Maltese
heart-throb seems to be subtly trying to shake off the Eurovision tag.
On his latest album, When We Danced, there is a distinct effort to
capture a hybrid sound that would appeal to European pop audiences
without doing away with his presence in the local festival circuit.
Europop is the name of the game throughout the album, although the
imported influences help blur the borders, especially the Latin touch of
the title track and previous single Let Me Be Your Lover, as well as the
commendable take on the vintage David Dundas hit, Jeans On. That said,
the album has its tacky moments, the most prominent being the cheesy I’m
In Love and the predictable Sins Of Love, but to be fair, tracks like
Calling Love, Only You and Heavenly more than make up for this!
