AILAS - SONGS FROM BLUE
SHELTER
The career of Maltese singer/songwriter Ailas has been rather a
colourful one compared to most other local artists. He’s been slogging
it on the gig circuit home and abroad, seizing the opportunities that
came his way and using them to motivate and inspire his music further.
In Holland he recorded some songs with Gasper Boire, and more recently,
in the UK, he was introduced to Renasence Records owner Andy Downbeat,
who was impressed enough by Ailas’ passion and music to book him into a
studio in Wales to record more songs.
With producer Gwen Jones, Ailas recorded 4 brand new songs and
re-recorded a couple of his earlier compositions. Overtly pleased and
freshly motivated by the new recordings, Ailas is currently working on
more songs that will feature on his forthcoming album, Blue Shelter,
which will be released through Renasence Records in the UK. He will in
fact be going back to London in September to record.
Of the six tracks on this sampler, the songs Send Me, Moonlight and
Ailas reflect an enhanced sound compared to Ailas’ earlier recordings.
The strong acoustic presence is felt throughout, and on Seven and
Between Lovers Ailas retains a more stripped down approach. The
re-recorded Hold You has been given a new feel, shedding the
‘pseudo-rap’ of the original for a more melodic stride that brings the
song in line with the new material!
