God loves his children. We stand here on earth
to serve a purpose, to choose a path that will lead us to what we were meant to
do in the first place. But how do we know what’s right for us? How do we know
we haven’t made the wrong choices already?
I’m not going to get all religious and existential here. But keep on reading,
because I’m about to make some pretty good points.
Some people choose to put themselves in the hands of God. Some say that they
will make their own destiny. It’s a known fact that as humans we all have
free will, the opportunity to do what we want when we want to. We do have
rules, laws that both bind and protect us. We live in a society with
preconceived notions of how we are supposed to live. And that’s all fine by me.
But this world isn’t so black and white; I’ve lived through a whole shade of
grays myself.
I would describe life as bittersweet. Good times go hand in hand with bad
moments. The world is filled with issues, such as racism, hunger, violence,
deadly diseases, bigotry, physical and mental abuse, war, hate… and I could go
on and on. But some things aren’t worth mentioning. I couldn’t possibly be such
a pessimist, because I was taught to “look on the bright side”; and I shall do
so now. Earth does have its advantages: we have these wonderful human feelings
like: love, friendship, respect, mercy, forgiveness, willingness, desire, joy
and selfishness, just to name a few.
Some pretty amazing people have helped the rest of us in our daily struggle to
understand and respect one another (people like Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr.,
Mother Theresa). Yet somehow we manage to kill, rape, hurt, disrespect, label
and put down our brothers and sisters, just because of the color of their skin,
sexual preferences, social status or religion. We look around, yet we don’t see
each other as equals. And we are equals, right from the moment we are born
until we perish, and just as well if we are sent back to do it all over again.
We are all the same, no matter where you’re from, what school you go to or what
you like to eat for breakfast. We’re all souls, we’re all God’s children.
I have been blessed enough to learn that you can’t force others into your
beliefs, you must show what you believe in and follow your heart and you can’t
go wrong. Some people must learn the hard way. It is not up to me to teach, I
can only show others that I have faith. I can’t hold the entire world on my
shoulders. But by choosing to take it one step at a time, maybe I can help save
what’s good about our hearts, minds and souls.
Keep in mind that I’m just this one person, with enough belief in the human
race to know that if we all stop for a moment to see that we’re not each
other’s enemy, but only each other’s savior, we will be ok. Because, after all,
God does love his children.
