ARTS EDUCATION WORKSHOPS FOR CHILDREN Pre-K to Grade 5

Bunny Hull, Grammy Award Winning songwriter and founder of Dream A World created this arts education outreach program even before the children's label was in full swing. The workshops, though designed to promote arts education, set affective developmental goals. Workshops provide a forum which encourages children to talk about different topics and use music, poetry, songwriting and the arts to explore creative skills, expand their sense of self, develop interests and enhance positive personal growth. Hull is the recipient of a Parents Choice Award, Three (3) National Parenting Publications Awards, Two (2) Dr. Toy Awards, a Children's Music Web Award and a Parents Guide To Children's Media Award for her children's work. She has conducted workshops with students and for professional teacher training in the LA Unified School District and in the Clark County School District in Las Vegas.

Hull is known for her ability to use creativity and the arts to inspire children and to explore feelings and ideas which prove valuable in helping to further develop their skills for making choices, problem solving and relating to others.

Workshops work best in groups of 30-35 and include performance, story and creative exercises. Workshop duration is 1 hour. No special equipment need be supplied. Workshops are designed for application with core subjects and address State of California content standards for the arts. Detailed course descriptions available. Teacher planning sheets that relate to the workshops provided for class followup.

Children's Workshops

"A Drop Of Peace"
This workshop uses music, art, storytelling and creative exercises like the "Friendship Chain" and "A Drop of Peace", from which it gets it's name, to teach children the importance of recognizing their individuality as well as what they hold in common and teaches them how they make a difference in the world.

"Free To Be Me"
This workshop uses the art of songwriting to teach children that it is their uniqueness as individuals that makes them special. Children learn how to create a lyric to the original song "Free To Be Me" while they explore the structure of song and how they can use their freedom to make a difference in their own lives and in the lives of others.

"Dream A World"
This workshop uses the creation of poetry to take children on a journey of self-discovery, to teach the importance of having a dream and the process involved in acheiving dreams. Students creat a class poem which is then adapted for the creation of an original song. The process involves language skills, reading, spelling, art and music. Children learn the power of words, choice, how to define their dream and what they need to do to achieve their dreams. This workshop was recently conducted with a 5th grade class at Rosemont Elementary School during a 12 week residency (one day per week) and culminated with a debut of the song "Sueno - Hold On To Your Dreams" for the American Repertory Dance Theatre's "DREAMS".

"Friendship"
This workshop uses the creation of poetry to talk about Friendship and all that means to have friends. They talk about how to make friends, how to keep friends, what is a best friend, what trust means and how to resolve differences with their friends. The process uses poetry and lyric as motivation and the creation of a "word palette" to discuss all the aspects of friendship along with values like honesty and understanding and emotions like love and sadness. This workshop employs language skills, reading, spelling and music. Children participate in performance of songs and ultimately Hull creates a song on the spot from the class poem the group has created together.

What educators have said about Bunny Hull and her children's work:

"Bunny Hull was an inspiration to the Gifted and Talented Coordinators and teachers in District K. The song she wrote for the Heroes project was used by many of our schools and the students loved it!! Many of our teachers used it in many of the cultural programs that were presented following the professional development workshop presented by Bunny.

We are inviting Bunny back to present it to parents of our gifted students!"

"The purpose of education is to guide children in becoming the best as individuals in their own lives, and to show them how to make a positive contribution to humanity by having the desire to bring out the dignity in others and in so doing find their own dignity. Bunny's "Peace In Our Land'" awakens children to these possibilities. And when it comes to embracing diversity, she sings with a vision for our hope and future - The Children."

[Using her "Peace In Our Land" materials] In one hour Bunny Hull took a class of 40 students and united them...making them all feel important and needed....Her drop of peace workshop and song, showed the children how easy it is to make a real difference. Her words of love and peace are beautiful for children of all ages.

[About Hull's packages] "Thank you for giving me a new way to communicate and be with my precious son. Thank you for asking questions I would have never thought he would have an answer for, much less, so inspired.

Thank you for writing such an inspired tool for us parents to use. Sometimes we wonder if we are doing it right, or doing enough. Your book helps us learn new things about our children in a
new way. I would like to see this book in the school curriculum across the nation."
