The Day The Guns Silenced

White flags hang in the distance,

My own black flag still flies in defiance,

That which caused so much damage has now retreated,

My own surrender is now but a distant memory.

I look to the south and see what was destroyed,

I look the north and see what could be destroyed,

But I lay down my arms and feel at peace,

For this is the day the guns have silenced.

No longer will I fear the past,

No longer will I fear the future,

Now my war is over,

Now my pain has ended.

Now I can learn to trust,

Now I can learn to accept what was done,

Now I can learn to forgive the enemy,

Now I can learn to love.

I look to the past and see what was destroyed,

I look to the future and see what could be destroyed,

But I lay down my arms and feel at peace,

For this is the day the guns have silenced.
