Review of House of Blues, Dec 28 and Sun Theater Jan 9

In late December 1999, and January, 2000, STEVIE NICKS did a few shows in intimate settings ,to warm-up for her new Springtime tour. I was fortunate enough to attend a December 28th show at House of Blues, Hollywood, as well as January 9th at the Sun Theater in Anaheim, California. Instead of writing two reviews,I have decided to instead do one review of both shows.

For the House Of Blues show, I was about 3 feet off center to the left from the stage. In the audience, on the balcony sat Mick Fleetwood, whom I met, and seemed to be in great spirits.
Stevie's brother ,Christopher introduced his sister, and the opening song, "Outside the rain", began to play,a nd Stevie entered the stage!
Looking trim, and stunning in her trademark platform boots, and black flowing dress, Stevie began an outstanding set of well known songs from her solo career, as well as a few from her days in Fleetwood Mac. Stevie teased the crowd, as she cruised the lip of the stage, making eye contact with her fans, and smiling proudly! Underplaying her "witch" image a bit, Stevie chose to instead do a straight-forward rock n roll show, carefully embracing each song with incredible passion, and energy!

Oddly, Stevie did not twirl during her set in Hollywood at all! She also did fewer costume changes, which kept her on stage longer, and allowed each song to start quickly.

At the SUN THEATER, in Anaheim, we had dinner table seats, about 8 feet from the stage. Steven Spielberg attended this show, as well.
I was a bit concerned about this performance, as I heard Stevie had broken her foot on New Year's Eve, so I wondered how she would perform. When Stevie entered the stage, she wore custom made Rebox platform shoes, and went into a KILLER version of "Outside the rain". She later explained why she was wearing "These rediculous shoes",and everyone giggled with her. As the show progressed, Stevie got wild, and began to twirl on her broken foot, and really started grooving! Instead of downplaying her "mystical" image, she embraced it, and gave a totally surreal performance, even kicking her leg HIGH above her head at the end of "Stand Back"!

It didn't hurt having a totally HOT band playing for her, either!

For these series of shows, Stevie had a new percussion player with her, named

I have seen Stevie 23 times in concert over the years, and DANIEL DE LOS REYES is without a doubt the BEST percussion player she has ever toured with! He gave Stevie's music an "edge" that pushed the show's high-energy numbers into over-drive! Daniel got to give a SMOKING solo, too, which left audiences at both shows spell-bound! I sincerely hope Daniel tours with Stevie this Spring!

We are so impressed with Daniel's performance,we have decided to spotlight him on this website, so please click on his name to learn more about this exciting rising musician, and his new solo cd! Both shows I attended were incredible,as Stevie gave two different, yet compelling displays of her incredible stage presence, and AMAZING vocal ability! I look forward to her new album,"Trouble in Shangra-la",and the tour with great intensity!
