COOL FOR AUGUST TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS: There's no cooling down for COOL FOR AUGUST.
Coming off their first radio track, "Don't Wanna Be Here" (which reached the Top 15 on both Radio & Records and Billboard rock charts), the band are releasing the second single, "Trials," from their Warner Bros. debut GRAND WORLD. "Trials" underlines the struggle to find hope and salvation in light of life's tragic events ("Trials ain't over/Trials fade away"), set against resonating guitars and haunting vocals. The song is, in fact, a memorial to vocalist GORDON VAUGHN's sister, who died in a car accident, and to whom he dedicates the song at every show. COOL FOR AUGUST will follow the song's late July release with their network television debut, performing on Late Night With Conan O'Brien August 12 and an appearance on MTV's Oddsville August 15. Meanwhile, of the GRAND WORLD album, San Francisco monthly Rock Love said: "Cool For August, cool for September, cool for June. It doesn't matter what month they picked, this Los Angeles quintet would still be cool. Gordon Vaughn's powerful and emotive vocals, in the tradition of Peter Murphy (Bauhaus), are the perfect complementary topper to the mixture of strong rock numbers and moodier, slower pieces that pepper the GRAND WORLD."
Currently, the band--GORDON VAUGHN, vocals; TREVOR KUSTIAK, guitar; ANDREW SHIVES, bass; and SHANE HILLS, drums--are out on the road through summer, hitting radio shows and clubs throughout the country. Ironically enough, the band's recent Los Angeles stint (at the Troubadour on August 5 and the Viper Room on August 6) found COOL FOR AUGUST performing on the record-breaking, hottest days of the year.
