Paul McCartney - Pipes of peace
AMG REVIEW: This was Paul McCartney's first new studio
album, either as a member of the Beatles or as a solo artist, to
miss the American Top Ten--ever--and this was despite the
inclusion of the long-running #1 duet with Michael Jackson,
"Say Say Say." Explicitly pitched as a follow-up to Tug
of War, Pipes of Peace was not as carefully crafted as its
predecessor, despite the presence of producer George Martin. But
that doesn't explain the commercial disappointment. Hereafter,
McCartney would struggle to maintain the mass audience he had
previously taken for granted.
