3/26/07: NEW ALBUM, BREAKFAST IN BED, OUT MAY 22...HIP SHAKE TV COMMERICAL

from joanosborne.com:

Time Life is pleased to announce the release of a newly recorded Joan Osborne studio album, due in stores on May 22nd. Titled Breakfast In Bed, the forthcoming album is best described as an homage to the great Soul and R&B songs of the late ‘60s and early ‘70s. It will contain a mixture of her powerful interpretations of classic songs as well as new originals written by Ms. Osborne in a style and sound faithful to the classics.

The new relationship with Time Life was orchestrated by the company’s Senior Vice President of Audio and Video Retail, Mike Jason. “I was completely taken with Joan’s performance in the documentary Standing In The Shadows of Motown and felt that the combination of Joan’s passion for this music and Time Life’s long history of success in the Soul and R&B genres would lead to a really exciting project,” he said. “In fact, her searing rendition of ‘Heat Wave’ and the powerful ‘What Becomes of the Brokenhearted,’ which wowed audiences in Shadows, will both be included as bonus tracks on Breakfast In Bed.”

Time Life will combine its incomparable direct marketing approach with a traditional retail-oriented marketing campaign to bring this album to the widest possible group of existing and new fans. "I am delighted to be working with Time Life on Joan’s new album," says Osborne’s manager, David Sonenberg of DAS Communications Ltd. "To have the opportunity to advertise on television and sell directly to Joan's fan base is a luxury that rarely happens when dealing with traditional record labels."

10/12/06: NEXT: MOST ADDED NEW SONG!...PHIL LESH DVD...ITUNES ADVANCE DOWNLOAD

Joan's new single, Who Divided, was the most added song to Triple A radio this week. Listen now to Who Divided! FMQB, a radio industry outlet, has some really nice things to say as well. Visit http://www.fmqb.com/triplea.asp

Word came out early this year that Joan Osborne was working on two new records, one of which would be [a] Country record. While the contents of the "other" record are still unknown, Pretty Little Stranger may be rooted in Country, but it is merely the best record Osborne has released since her 1995 major label debut, Relish.

It's only fitting that on an album of mostly covers -- some from writers as noted as Kris Kristofferson and Rodney Crowell -- that the best song on the record is one written solely by Osborne herself. This one is at least as much R&B as any other genre. It's lyrically strong while it ponders the seemingly interminable way that time passes when a relationship ends. And the vocal is superlative.

This will be the tune that puts Osborne back on top of the Triple A charts, with KGSR, WXPN, WRLT, WXRV, WFUV, KRSH, WXPK and KTAO among the plethora of stations already on it.

Pre-order Pretty Little Stranger today: Amazon, Barnes & Noble.

Set for release on October 31 is Phil Lesh and Friends - Live at the Warfield. Joan was a special guest vocalist for the filming and recording of this DVD and CD project.

On May 18th and 19th 2006, Phil Lesh and Friends electrified The Warfield Theater in San Francisco, CA with two nights of music that never failed to satisfy. The venerable theater had been visited many times by Phil Lesh and Friends, but never by this exact group. This group of assembled Friends combines a strong jazz background with a touch of blues, a pinch of soul, a good helping of groove, and just the right amount of jamming to keep the faithful dancing well into the early morning.

Pre-order the DVD today: Amazon.

If you haven't done so already, download (on itunes) an advance track from Pretty Little Stranger: the Grateful Dead's gorgeous Brokedown Palace!

9/7/06: CONFIRMED RELEASE DATE...

It's confirmed. Joan's new album, Pretty Little Stranger, will be released November 14.  Preview the album on MySpace!  From Vanguard Records:

Recorded in Nashville and produced by Grammy winner, Steve Buckingham, "Pretty Little Stranger" highlights the soulful sound of Joan Osborne with elements of country blues and Americana. This 12 song collection features six original tunes written by Joan including the first single, "Who Divided," "Shake That Devil," "After Jane" and the title track and also compositions by Kris Kristofferson ("Please Don't Tell Me How The Story Ends"), Jerry Garcia/Robert Hunter ("Brokedown Palace") and Patty Griffin ("What You Are").

Joan stated, "I would call this my version of a country record - some of it very traditional, some less so. It tells feelings and stories in very simple language, and I wanted to focus on that simple way of communicating, rather than be flowery and poetic. I needed to get down to the bare bones and I feel like we did a good job of doing that."

"Pretty Little Stranger" features some of music's finest performers lending their talents including Vince Gill on "Time Won't Tell," Alison Krauss, "Holy Waters," Sonny Landreth playing slide guitar on "Dead Roses" and Rodney Crowell providing harmony vocals on his own "When The Blue Hour Comes."

1/18/06: TOURING WITH PHIL LESH & FRIENDS...

Joan performed with Phil Lesh during his New Year's shows: December 29, 30, and 31.  Visit http://www.philzone.com/ to listen to the shows, browse pictures, and read reviews.

10/13/05: NOVEMBER 1 RELEASE DATE FOR NEW XMAS ALBUM...

Joan's new Christmas CD is titled "Christmas Means Love." It is being sold exclusively through Barnes & Noble Noble beginning November 1 (replaces previously announced date of October 18, which was posted on September 20). Pre-order your copy now!

8/18/05: NEW CHRISTMAS ALBUM?

Look for Joan's new Christmas album to be offered exclusively at Barnes & Nobles stores, www.bn.com. Stay tuned...

Based on comments by Billy Ward (frequent drummer on Joan's tours), Joan is recording 14 tracks for a Christmas album! It seems the project will be quick and low budget with three days of production that began yesterday. Billy adds that the recording is being done live and in a "very bluesy-down home way." Billy ends with "Joan is, of course, singing her ^&* off."

Stay tuned, hopefully, for more details about the Christmas album and Joan's  - as previously reported - completed album of new material.

8/11/05: JOAN SINGS "SPOONFUL"

Joan is appearing as a guest vocalist on Vivian Campbell's upcoming debut CD, Two Sides Of If. Joan appears on "Spoonful." Vivian is most notable as guitarist for the band Def Leppard. Visit his website at www.viviancampbell.com.

4/6/05: BABY GIRL!

Based on an unconfirmed report, Joan delivered a girl in December. Despite my best efforts, not one of Joan's "official contacts" seems to have any clue what's going on with her regarding the release of an album, touring, or general status.

11-02-2004 Based on Joan's own comments, she is expecting a girl sometime in December. We wish Joan and her baby best wishes! Joan has shared that she has completed a new album (somewhat "country" flavored) and hopes for it to come out in early next year.

8-26-2004 Standing In The Shadows Of Motown will be playing on The Movie Channel; check your listings if you have yet to see this great film and Joan's awesome performances.

08-18-2004 Joan was a surprise guest at a recent Dead show in New Jersey (August 11). She sat in for a number of songs, including sharing vocals with Warren Haynes on Sugaree. Visit www.dead.net/thedead/2004/summer-tour/index.html for pictures and an mp3 download of Sugaree (click "music").

07-30-2004 According her own announcements at recent performances, Joan is pregnant. No news on how this will affect her album or touring. In any event, congratulations to Joan! Joan, give us fans a new album, too, or a live CD? Just an idea.

The Boston Globe offers an explanation to Joan's departure from touring with The Dead. "Haynes was brought in after last summer's touring member, Joan Osborne, departed. 'She wanted to get pregnant. I think that's OK to say, because it's the truth,' Kreutzmann says."

07-07-04 Celebrating the 30th Anniversary of Bob Dylan's landmark album Blood on The Tracks, the Merkin Concert Hall at Kaufman Center will present The "Blood on the Tracks" Project featuring Joan Osborne, Vernon Reid, Ollabelle, Jesse Harris, Toshi Reagon, Marc Anthony Thompson, Ron Sexsmith, Mary Lou Lord, Alex de Grassi and others! Project. When? Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at 8 pm. Broadcast live on WFUV, Joan will sing "You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go." Joan's comments from sfgate.com:

"There are so many great songs on that record," says Osborne, who chose "You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go" for her turn onstage. "That's one I've always had a certain affinity for. I love the simplicity, the simple heartfelt expression. As much as Bob Dylan is known for other aspects of his writing -- the intellectual power, the social commentary -- I find I gravitate more toward the songs like this, that are just full of love. He has a way of putting it that is just so beautiful."

Osborne likens the album to "a classic novel: You can listen to that record again and again and have it reach you in different ways, because you yourself have changed, so you appreciate different aspects of it."

05-07-04 Joan performed Billie Holliday's "Lover Man" as a guest with Greg Osby and his band in January 2004 at New York's Jazz Standard. That evening's performance is now being released on CD, titled Public and set for release on June 1. Order the CD.

"Osborne offers a restrained, wonderfully able and sultry reading of the classic tune... She brings the longing in the lyric to the fore, in a style which echoes the emphasis Billie Holiday brought to it... It's too bad there aren't more tunes featuring Osborne fronting this fantastic band." Thom Jurek, All Music Guide full review

05-28-04 Joan contributes an awesome new, original song titled "Stand Back" to the upcoming soundtrack to Raising Helen, which stars Kate Hudson. Visit the film site to listen to clips from the CD, which has a May 25th release date. The movie is in theaters May 28th. Order the CD.

04-08-04 The CD/DVD Bridge to Havana is due in July. USA Today: "Political tensions between the United States and Cuba fade away on the CD/DVD Bridge to Havana, which documents the cross-cultural collaboration of more than 70 American, European and Cuban musicians and songwriters. Gladys Knight, Bonnie Raitt, Joan Osborne, Mick Fleetwood, Peter Frampton and Montell Jordan are among the stars who traveled to Cuba in 1999. Their work is captured on an album and in a DVD concert, set for July release by Pyramid Records." Order the CD/DVD. The DVD and CD are reported to be released June 29. According to Billboard.com, PBS is expected to air the DVD as part of an upcoming pledge drive (airdate to be announced).

From a 1999 report: Highlights of the concert included "One World," a track featuring Fleetwood on drums and Buffett on guitar. Joan Osborne's sexy soul song, "Alone With You," had the 5,000-strong capacity crowd out of their seats... Talking about the show, Franti, Was and Martinez all named an identical highlight: Joan Osborne. "She was wonderful," Martinez said. "Joan Osborne kicked a--," Was said. "She had a real swagger to her." Osborne and her collaborators crafted a sweet soul tune reminiscent of a four-chord American pop song, according to Martinez.

02-09-04 Based on reports, Joan is not touring as a member of the Dead for Summer 2004. No specific reasoning has been published yet, but we can speculate part of this decision is due to Joan's upcoming solo album (see below), which we're all looking forward to very much! Also, we can probably expect a solo tour sometime soon?

01-14-04 Joan's working on an album and according to a number of references it's near completion and should be out no later than fall. Be sure to track Joan's tour dates. Joan reunited with most of the same people who were part of the team that made Relish. This was posted in early January on Eric Bazilian's website: "The Joan project has taken on new dimensions of Wonderfulness both musically and interpersonally. It seems that years apart really has given space for all four of us to evolve into far better versions of what we'd thought we maybe were."

"I'll Be Around" from How Sweet It Is was one of the top 30 (number 27) Smooth Jazz tracks of the year (2003).

"Do I Ever Cross Your Mind" from the Dolly Parton tribute album was voted as one of the year's top 107 songs by popular radio station 107.1 KGSR in Austin, TX. This track has been getting some modest airplay at stations across the country.

01-14-04 The Indigo Girls are set to release their next album All That We Let In on February 17. Joan contributes vocals on three tracks. The following was posted on indigogirls.com.

"Tether," by Amy, would be a staple on classic rock radio if the format played new music, that is. Featuring the aforementioned duel guitar leads by Amy and Emily, it also features vocals by Joan Osborne. Joan, one of the most distinctive and powerful vocalists alive, currently splits her time between her solo career and singing in The Dead, but she made time to lay down vocals on this song as well as "Rise Up" and "Heartache For Everyone." She also sang on four songs on 1999's Come On Now Social. As Emily points out, "She blends my and Amy's voices together in a way that's unique to the three of us."

10-14-2002 Joan's European Itinerary Below is a very tentative promotion itinerary! Nothing is confirmed. Joan will be in Europe November 4-17 (approximately).

HOLLAND: The Barend Van Dorp national tv show is a confirmed offer for November 6th. They require one song fully live performance - an acoustic version of "Love's In Need.." would be ideal. The show is broadcast live. A full interview schedule will also be arranged around the tv performance.

DENMARK: National Radio P3 (million + listeners) are very keen on having Joan in to the station to perform a short acoustic set for live broadcast. There is a very good feeling for the release in Denmark. It may be possible to do a radio performance on Saturday November 9th which would free up some time for Germany or additional promotion in Denmark or Holland on the Thursday/Friday.

FRANCE: Again, there is a great reaction to the album. A day of key face-to-face press/radio interviews with possibly acoustic tracks to be played at radio is expected.

SPAIN: At least one key tv performance is expected - most likely a 20-25 minute acoustic set for a show called "Los Conciertos De Radio 3" which is pre-recorded for broadcast on both national tv and radio. Additionally, it is likely that an in-store performance of one or two acoustic numbers at key retail chain FNAC in Madrid will occur along with some interviews and possible acoustic number performances at national M80 and Cadena 100 radios. Alongside that there will be a full schedule of face to face print media interviews.

ITALY: Again, a full day of face-to-face print media interviews and hopefully some tv (All Music TV - national music tv) and radio acoustic performances will also be scheduled.

UK: Promotional appearances schedule for November 15-16.

10-14-2002 You can listen to Joan's taped appearance for the Acoustic Cafe. She sang four live, acoustic tracks and gave some insightful interviews.

10-01-2002 The Bravo network will air this year's induction ceremony to the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Joan had the honor of inducting Stevie Wonder and performing "Love's In Need of Love Today." Airtimes: Monday, October 7 at 8:00 pm Monday, October 7 at 11:00 pm Tuesday, October 8 @ 5:00 pm

8-31-2002 The trailer for Joan's upcoming film documentary, Standing in the Shadows of Motown, about the legendary Funk Brothers will debut exclusively on Entertainment Tonight Thursday, September 5. This is an entirely new trailer with new scenes and music.

Focus on the present: Joan will be doing a tour this Fall in venues similar to those she toured in support of Righteous Love. Whether or not Joan tours the UK is unclear.

7-1-2002 Compendia released the tentative track listing to Joan's upcoming CD, which is now being titled How Sweet It Is. The songs are not chronological and songs may be added or deleted. Special guests include Isaac Hayes and Me'Shell Ndegeocello. The release date looks like it will be a mid September release rather than late August. Directly from her label: "Joan is still finishing the final details on the CD, over dubbing, mixing, etc. From there she will be busy working on various promotional press, retail and radio visits. We also hope to have her working on a new video sometime this summer as well. We are planning on working with NYU Film students on getting this done." As always, stay tuned!

4-17-2002 Joan Osborne's Womanly Hips Records Signs With Compendia Music Group. First release to be Joan Osborne’s soulful new solo album WOMANLY HIPS

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 16, 2002) – Artist Joan Osborne, whose critically acclaimed albums have sold millions, garnered multiple Grammy nominations and inspired legions of loyal fans, has signed an exclusive world-wide deal for her Womanly Hips Records label with independent record company Compendia Music Group. Michael Olsen, COO of Compendia, made the announcement today.

In keeping with the motto "all good things come from Womanly Hips," Osborne said that her Womanly Hips label is "designed to be a home for artists who create eclectic, inventive music – music that might not have an outlet anyplace else. Womanly Hips is a label for music that needs to be heard."

The first release under the Womanly Hips/Compendia banner will be a new Joan Osborne project. The album, which will share the name of her record label, WOMANLY HIPS, will be a soulful collection of classic songs. "In the midst of these disturbing times I really wanted to put out an album of joyful music," said Osborne. "I’m drawn to the soul songs on WOMANLY HIPS because they embody a particular optimism and spirituality about American culture, and in this moment I think it is important to celebrate that about ourselves."

Osborne will begin recording WOMANLY HIPS this month with producer John Leventhal, whose many credits include producing and co-writing Shawn Colvin’s hit "Sunny Came Home," which won both Record of the Year and Song of the Year at the 1998 Grammy Awards. The first single from WOMANLY HIPS will go to radio in mid-June; the album is currently scheduled for release on August 27 and will be distributed through Compendia Distribution. A "Womanly Hips" music and arts festival is being planned for early September; corporate partners, dates and details about the Festival will be announced in May.

"We’re thrilled to be working with Joan Osborne; she is the perfect representation of the direction and focus of Compendia Music," said Walt Wilson, general manager/vice president of the Compendia label. "Expect more projects of this quality and depth from Compendia – we’re just warming up."

Adds Michael Olsen: "The concept of the WOMANLY HIPS album is brilliant – an acclaimed artist, top-notch producer, classic music and amazing musicians . . . it’s the kind of project that every label wants to be associated with. As I’ve said before, artists who create music with integrity and passion have a home at Compendia -- we welcome Joan to the family."

Springing from the NYC club scene that produced the likes of Blues Traveler, Spin Doctors and Chris Whitley, the Anchorage, Kentucky-born Osborne recorded two well-received independent albums before achieving international fame with the huge success of "One of Us," a breakaway single from her 1995 major label debut, RELISH. This triple-platinum selling release earned seven Grammy nominations and established Osborne as one of the top female vocalists in rock. The brilliant RIGHTEOUS LOVE, her 2001 release, further established Osborne as an artist with a distinctive voice and a complex, focused vision. She has performed for the Dalai Lama, sung duets with such artists as Luciano Pavarotti, Stevie Wonder and Bob Dylan, and has had her music featured in many movies and television programs. Osborne makes her film debut this fall in the feature documentary "Standing in the Shadows of Motown." She is also active as a spokesperson for Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

In addition to the "Womanly Hips" festival in the fall, Osborne will also be touring throughout the summer; dates and details about her touring schedule will be released in the following weeks.

Also, the album is expected to have some very special "duet" guests.

4-17-2002 Discussion has been underway to develop a partnership between Joan and the Oxygen Network. The idea is for Joan to develop and host "Womanly Hips with Joan Osborne" segments that will appear during the network's music show "Daily Remix," which is seen twice daily, seven days a week. Joan is expected to interview artists in a variety of locations, develop segment themes and promote the Womanly Hips "brand." Furthermore, the network is in discussions to become a strategic partner for the Womanly Hips festival and album.

4-12-2002 A rare and previously unheard track called It's A Shame has surfaced at the website for the producer and songwriter Daniel Wise. Check out the song! It's got a spooky tone to it and is a bit different in style, but it's great and I dig it.

One easy thing to do is e-mail VH1 and request they have a Joan Storytellers or something - request Joan on VH1. Email: inbox@vh1mail.com.

8-31-2000 Look for Joan singing on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno this Thursday, September 7th!

8-25-2000 In a recent interview, Joan relates that she just finished producing a Gospel record for The Holmes Brothers. She says, "What an experience! These guys are so cool. I've always loved their music. I've known them since my eariliest days performing in clubs in New York. We played a lot of the same clubs and became friends. 7-16-2000 Joan's donated coat to RAINN raised more than $650!

7-16-2000 Joan is a confirmed Interscope Artist. Joan's new album to be entitled Righteous Love will be released September 12th. The album features many new songs that Joan has never previewed. Most of the material she did preview at events such as Lilith Fair (read further down) is not on the album. Next album maybe??!!

6-13-2000 RAINN operates the country's only nationwide hotline for survivors of sexual assault, 1-800-656-HOPE. RAINN's hotline has helped more than 320,000 victims since its start in 1994. Now through June 25th, RAINN is holding an online fundraising auction featuring over 40 items of music memorabilia from artists like Joan Osborne (jacket worn on the cover of "Relish"), Dave Matthews Band, 311, Creed, Garbage, and others. Check it out!

5-22-2000 In issue #540, Entertainment Weekly's Tenth Anniversary Issue, Relish is rightly recognized as one of the best albums of the '90s. David Browne writes, "Rock in sundry stirring shapes and sizes also defines incandescent vocal showcases like Jeff Buckley's Grace (No. 3) and Joan Osborne's Relish (No. 10)..."

5-4-2000 Billboard reports that Joan will be signing with Interscope Records - she, at least, is expected to sign. Apparently, Joan's new album will be titled "Righteous Love" rather than the previously suggested title "Curds and Whey" (a reference taken from one of her upcoming new songs, "Sensitive"). The title track for the album will be featured on the soundtrack to HBO's Sex and the City as well and will be released as a single in July or August for radio play. "Righteous Love" is expected to be released by September. Stay tuned for confirmation of these reports!

5-4-2000 HBO will release a soundtrack for it's wildly popular comedy series Sex and the City which features Sarah Jessica Parker. Joan contributes a new song "Righteous Love," the title track from her upcoming album. Artists on the CD include Aimee Mann and the Pet Shop Boys, among others. Expect a June 6th release date. In conjunction with this project, Joan's track will be released as a single for radio around July or August! Hallelujah!!!

5-4-2000 Correction: Apparently, Artemis Records, the label releasing the soundtrack for Steal This Movie! is in disarray! They list the release as May 9th but that information is not accurate. I have not been able to attain a set release date...but one source indicates the release date will actually be July 11th. Stay tuned!

3-16-2000 Alrighty, I've learned that the song between Joan and Tommy Sims (on the Where The Heart Is soundtrack) will be called "Rowdy Booty Time" and will be released April 18th. And the song between Joan and Jackson Browne will be a cover of Bob Dylan's classic "My Back Pages" and that soundtrack will be released May 9th...but there's a possibility you will be able to hear the song (maybe an mp3 download?) from the movie's website soon, or sometime before the release: Steal This Movie! - it's a fun site, with lots of stuff to check out...so mozey on over! Janeane Garafolo and Vincent D'Onofrio star in this period film about Abbie Hoffman (late 60's to late 70's) who questioned the status quo - check the site out for more details! Ciao people.

3-6-2000 Joan does another soundtrack!!! I wish I could write "Joan does another album!" Anyway, RCA will be releasing a soundtrack to Where the Heart Is on April 18th. Joan will be contributing a "collaboration" between herself and former Bruce Springstein bassist Tommy Sims. I haven't been able to hunt down the title of the song though, so stay tuned. The CD will feature other collaborations; one between Sara Evans and the Warren Brothers, the other featuring Emmylou Harris and Patty Griffin with help from The Dixie Chicks, Martie Seidel, and Emily Erwin (who are some of these people?, don't ask me). If my information is correct, I believe the movie can be described as such: "A pregnant 17-year-old is abandoned at a Wal-Mart in the middle of nowhere by her boyfriend with $7.77. She moves into the Wal-Mart and thus begins a new life." And I believe the actors involved include Natalie Portman, Ashley Judd, Joan Cusack, Sally Field, and Stockard Channing... Sounds fun!

2-10-2000 Joan Osborne is dropped from Mercury Records. The singer tells EW why that's fine by her - by Tom Sinclair (from EW online)

Following rumors of a bitter stalemate between Joan Osborne and her label Mercury, Osborne has revealed to EW that she is no longer a Mercury artist. She got the news in late December: ''Mercury called my manager and told him they were dropping me from their roster,'' she says, adding, ''I was kind of aghast.''

Mercury declines to comment, but, in truth, the label's move didn't come as a complete shock to Osborne, who admits relations had been rocky for some time. Her personal dissatisfaction has been growing since Mercury was restructured last year, resulting in the departure of many of her key allies: ''Let's just say that I had really liked it when [ex- Mercury chief] Danny Goldberg was running things, and liked it less so when he was gone.''

And, apparently, the feeling was mutual. Osborne confirms Mercury nixed a version of her second album, the long- awaited follow- up to her multiplatinum '95 debut ''Relish'' (although her manager, David Sonenberg, had denied this to EW last month). The rejected disc was produced mostly by Cracker's David Lowery (Osborne also recorded with T- Bone Burnett and Spin Doctors drummer Aaron Comess). ''I turned it in to my A&R person, Rick Chertoff, who [had] signed me and produced 'Relish,''' says Osborne. ''He didn't think it would fly, so that was a sticking point. I was sent back to the drawing board.''

Chertoff - - who has since left Mercury - - did not return calls for comment, but Lowery speculates that the label was looking for another ''One of Us,'' Osborne's '95 pop smash, and wasn't pleased by the hard- rocking direction her songs were taking. ''I knew she was bummed out by her relationship with the label,'' says Lowery. ''I think they totally misunderstood her as an artist. She's a great rock female voice, a down- and- dirty, ballsy singer, and they wanted her to do poppy VH1 stuff.''

According to Sonenberg, Osborne is about to sign with a new label. And she's currently completing a final mix of her album with producer Mitchell Froom in L.A. (working title: ''Curds and Whey''). She's ''really happy'' with it: ''I listen to the stuff I did before, and the stuff I'm doing now with Mitchell, and this is better.'' Any bitterness about getting dropped? ''I feel like it was this great gift,'' she says. ''I can make a fresh start. It's really kind of exciting.'' Still, the suggestion that she cover ''Mercury Poisoning'' - - Graham Parker's 1979 kiss- off to his and now Osborne's former label - - elicits a hearty peal of laughter from Joan. ''Oh, man,'' she says, savoring the thought. ''Oh, man.''

1-31-2000 New tracks by Steve Earle, a duet between Jackson Browne and Joan Osborne (produced by Earle), and an Ani DiFranco version of "When I'm Gone" will be featured on the soundtrack of Steal This Movie, the story of Yippie leader Abbie Hoffman. An album will be released in late April by Danny Goldberg's new Artemis Records, with the movie to premiere in May.

1-31-2000 Cracker will be releasing a compilation of their favorite and best songs taken from their four studio albums. The CD will be entitled "Garage D'Or" and will be released March 14. A limited edition of "Garage D'Or" will be released along with a special bonus disc that will contain B-sides, live cuts, and other unreleased gems. A highlight will be a live cover of Bob Dylan's "You Ain't Going Nowhere" that features the vocals of Adam Duritz (of The Counting Crows) and our Joan. Personally, I recommend you all go get this!! Joan contributed some awesome backing vocals on "Nothing to Believe In" from Cracker's The Golden Age, released in 1996.

1-15-2000 From issue #522/523 of Entertainment Weekly:

"Whatever Happened to...Joan Osborne" If God was one of us, He/She would no doubt be scratching His/Her head in bewilderment at the continuing absence of a new Joan Osborne album. It's been five years since the corkscrew-haired singer wowed the world with her debut CD, Relish. Manager David Sonenberg--who denies rumors that Mercury nixed previous versions of the album-admits the singer has done quite a bit of recording (with among others, roots band Cracker's frontman, David Lowery): "She's in the studio with [producer] Mitchell Froom [Bonnie Raitt, Los Lobos] and they're hoping to be finished with the record by the end of February" for an intended summer release. "She wants to take her time," says Sonenberg, "and make sure she comes back with a great record." Here's to resurrections. - Tom Sinclair

1-6-2000 According to certain sources, The Tonight Show from a few months ago featuring our Joan and George Clooney will be repeated January 18th. So, if you missed it the first time, be sure to check it out this time! She gave a great performance of "Baby Love." So, check it out!

11-3-1999 Seattle's KMTT is issuing On The Mountain 5 which features exclusive live performances of its past guests. Joan sings a brand new song "Spooky" which is expected to be on her new album! So, this would be a good CD to get your hands on! Other guests include Lyle Lovett, Shawn Mullins, Jonny Lang, and Susan Tedeschi. Check out the website of KMTT.

9-27-1999 Joan will be performing her new single "Baby Love" on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno this Thursday...September 30th. Be sure to watch! Look for the new video and listen for the single on the radio! Request to hear the single or see the video! Send an email to VH1, MTV, and/or MuchMusic (it's quick & easy so DO IT!)- or call or write your local radio station!

9-27-1999 Entertainment Weekly (issue#505) reviewed Joan's "Baby Love" single:

It's been nearly four years since the soulful singer converted the faithless with the naive lyricism and delicate melody of "One of Us." This single from the soundtrack to For Love of the Game finds Osborne unleashing her freewheeling, full-bodied alter ego. With its bluesy sax and woozy moans, "Baby Love" is far better suited to hell-raising than heaven-storming. Who says a little red-light revelry can't earn a girl her wings? B+ --Laura Morgan

9-1-1999 Joan will be making an appearance September 8th for "Caribbean Soiree: An Evening of Dinner, Dance, and Performances" - sponsored by Wyclef Jean's foundation. Held at the Copacabana in New York, the show will reportedly be taped for a VH1 Storytellers episode - stay tuned. Wyclef and U2's Bono will debut their new collaborative effort "New Day," a single to benefit Kosovo relief. The $1,000 a plate dinner concert will be broadcast live on the internet at www.wyclef.com.

9-1-1999 The Indigo Girls will be releasing Come On Now Social September 28th. The first single "Peace Tonight" - featuring Joan on vocals - will begin radio airplay September 21st.

9-1-1999 Joan's duet with Randy Scruggs "Passin' Thru" - taken from Scruggs's debut album Crown of Jewels - is the first track on the soundtrack to Happy, Texas. The Miramax Film was a hit at the '99 Sundance Film Festival and has enjoyed good buzz. The film benefits from a talented cast which includes Steve Zahn, Jeremy Northam, Ally Walker, Illena Douglas, and William H. Macy. The soundtrack is set for a September 14 release.

8-5-1999 Still NO WORD at all about Joan's new album...but she is definitely a busy woman. Joan is contributing a NEW song to the soundtrack For Love of the Game which opens September 17th. It stars Kevin Costner and Kelly Preston. Joan sings "Baby Love" - a brand new song that she has performed during her appearances with Lilith Fair and other live shows. We can only HOPE that this is a sign of good things to come! Maybe a release date for Joan's album? How I hope and pray...

8-5-1999 More excitement! Can we say "thank goodness!" for the Indigo Girls? A new Indigo Girls album is due for release in late September. Joan is a special guest on this album. Joan lends her talents on four songs. This 6th Indigo Girls album is titled Come on Now Social. The album includes other distinguished guests such as Sheryl Crow and Me'Shell Ndegeocello.

5-28-1999 Joan has been working with an eclectic array of musicians as we await her follow-up to Relish. Recently, she collaborated on Joseph Arthur's Vacancy. His sound can be described as "experimental folk-rock with an identity crisis." Joan is credited with acoustic guitar and chord progression on "Crying on Sunday." Check out Joseph Arthur's site for more info.

5-28-1999 Michelle Willson, Rounder recording artist from Cambridge, Massachusetts, recently released her third CD Tryin' to Make a Little Love featuring the sultry title track written by Joan. Check out bluesy Michelle Willson at CDNOW for more info.

3-30-1999 Joan & Co. just wrapped up their work in Cuba. According to reports, the Cuban & American interaction was a smash! Here are a couple snippets from articles:

Highlights of the concert included "One World," a track featuring Fleetwood on drums and Buffett on guitar.

She is currently working on an album for release this summer, according to her publicist.

3-5-1999 SonicNet reports this on Joan: "Rock singer Joan Osborne is back in the studio working on tracks for a new album, according to a spokesperson for the singer, who asked not be named. "She's been working on it on-and-off for a while," the spokesperson said of the as-yet-untitled project. No release date or further information is available for the album. Osborne has not released an album of new material since Relish, her roots-rocking 1995 debut, which made her a star with the huge hit "One of Us." Osborne recently recorded a duet with Bob Dylan on his song "Chimes of Freedom" for the soundtrack of the ABC-TV miniseries "The '60s."

Is this really news? I don't know - but it's my duty to report it... Is this really reliable? I don't know - The '60s was on NBC, not ABC... From various info that I've gathered, it seems like most (if not all) of the recording is done! Whatever... The only real news will be a freakin' release date!!! SCREAM!!!!!!

2-16-1999 A HUGE group of American musicians will be in Havana, Cuba from March 21 - 28. Among these musicians are our Joan, the Indigo Girls, Jimmy Buffet, Me'shell Ndegeocello (who is rumored to be on Joan's upcoming album), and others... Cuban and American musicians will collaborate during this period culminating in a huge concert on the final day. CLICK HERE for the full article.

2-10-1999 Okay, here's SOME news about the album. The following was printed in the February 12th issue of Entertainment Weekly (issue #471). "JOAN OSBORNE Last new album: 1995's Relish. Recently hitless Mercury could use a sophomore smash from Osborne, but rumor has it that she and the label haven't seen entirely eye to eye over the grittier tracks she's been cutting with Cracker's Dave Lowery, T-Bone Burnett, and other producers since '97. A fall release is tentative."

2-10-1999 According to MTV, Joan worked with Cracker's David Lowery on some tracks for her new album. Word has it that the new album will include many guests and may even be 2 discs (wouldn't that be fab?). Here is a list of songs that will likely appear on the new album: "Libertine" "Baby Love" "Hurricane" "Beautiful Things" "Sensitive" "Platform Shoes" "La La" "Wedding Day" "Hillbilly"

I think it's a strong possibility that these songs will surface as well: "Hammerhead" "Century" "Mind Fulla Worry" and "Brick House" perhaps. There is other material as well - but I'm unable to identify any of it... Please keep in mind that I put this list together by myself. These are songs which Joan has performed at Lilith Fair and other live shows.

2-10-1999 Still no mention of when the album will actually come out - only "sometime very soon." I read recently at NBC's site an article that indicates a mid-1999 release. In the January 22/29 (#468/469) issue of Entertainment Weekly, the magazine states "It looks like another vintage year for women in rock. Besides Joan Osborne's looong-awaited follow-up (fall), look for CDs from..." So we may have to wait until Fall! It was communicated clearly to me that Joan has been under a lot of pressure from her label (which was affected by the recent Polygram/Seagrams merger). Joan is working diligently - so fear not, the eventual release will only be that much more fantastic and fabulous! As always, "patience is a virtue." Keep the faith! CLICK HERE for an article in which Joan discusses the album! Very informative...

1998 Joan is also working on a new quarterly magazine Womanly Hips - the same name as her self created label. The new magazine is said to deal with topical issues rather than fashion or music. John Popper has already contributed; others that have been approached include Harvey Keitel, Michael Stipe, and Janeane Garofalo. Joan plans to coincide the releases of the magazine with the MUCH anticipated album. " I was also informed that a new web site is in the works. We'll see...stay tuned...
