The Pink Floyd Movie Synchronizations

A Summary of the Results

If you are interested in finding the album/movie combinations on your own, read no further. In this section, the Pink Floyd albums are listed in chronological order with the corresponding movie. In some cases, only part of the movie lines up with the album, but in the majority of cases, the entire movie can be played to music. A description of each sync appears by clicking on its title. I find that playing a movie with the Closed Captioning helps to follow the movie plot and themes, while performing the sync.

Pink Floyd's Signal to Me (posted on alt.music.pink-floyd on Nov. 8, 2001)

Over the years, those of you who have been here a while know me as the "Intentional Synch Theory" guy. Most of you are quite irritated with the suggestion that Pink Floyd would synch their music to movies. I have made it quite clear that I am 100% convinced that they intentionally wrote albums to synchronize with certain movies. I have been waiting for a subtle hint from the band that I am on the right track.

On April 16, 1998, my web page was created describing a few of the synchs that I or others had found. On November 7, 1998, my web page was updated and stayed that way until its 2nd anniversary, April 16, 2000, when I added several other synchs that were discovered. That was the last update. (These two days, 4/16 and 11/7, are mentioned on my page.)

In the United States, most albums are released on Tuesdays. So, Pink Floyd, having really no new material for quite a while, releases some stuff from their archives.

"Is There Anybody Out There? The Wall Live - PF 1980-81" is released in the states on Tuesday, April 18, 2000. This is the nearest Tuesday to the anniversary of my page. Check this Pink Floyd page for details:
http://www.sonymusic.com/artists/PinkFloyd/walllive.html

"Wouldn't You Miss Me - Best of Syd Barrett" is released from EMI on April 16, 2001. This is exactly on the third anniversary of the page. [The CD is a UK-compilation of 22 songs. Most interesting is the previously unreleased Barrett composition Bob Dylan's Blues. The recording (from February 1970) has been in David Gilmour's private collection until now. Two Of a Kind is a recording from the Peel Sessions. The remaining songs are from Syd's two solo-albums and Opel.] Check out this page for details:

"Echoes The Best of Pink Floyd" is released from Capitol in the states on Tuesday, November 6, 2001. This is the nearest Tuesday to the only other day mentioned on my page (11/7). Check out this page for details:
http://hollywoodandvine.com/pinkfloyd/

The name of the new album, Echoes, is also a synch confirmation. It has been rumored for years that Meddle's "Echoes" synchs with 2001 - A Space Odyssey's "Jupiter and Beyond the Infinite." It is no coincidence that in the year 2001, Pink Floyd releases a "Best of" album called "Echoes."

-----------------------------------------------------------------

The pattern mentioned above continued with the US release of the "David Gilmour In Concert" DVD on Tuesday, November 5, 2002.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

I want to offer a special thanks to my friends and family members who have inspired me in one way or another and to my friend Todd Ellis for watching most of my sync discoveries with me.

When sharing these movie synchronizations with others, please remember who discovered them. When reprinting these synchronizations, please give us credit. Thank you and enjoy.
