Girl power reigns - well it does in the pop world at the moment as the Spice Girls made it three chart-stoppers in a row with '2 Become 1'. So when the girls wannabe in Shoot and have their say on footie, who are we to argue?
Mel C says: "I'm right into football, you know, and played for a team in Watford last season. I'm not that good really. I was alright running around in midfield tackling people but I was hopeless when I had the ball! I always wanted to play like Steve McManaman but I was more like Phil Babb, giving the ball away all the time! Macca gets me tickets for football matches now, and it's great getting into Anfield for nothing. I've always supported Liverpool 'cos I was born there and I grew up in Widnes nearby.
One time I was in the players' lounge and John Barnes came up and said: 'Hello, my name's John.' I rolled up - as if I didn't know who he was! jamie Redknapp's my fave though. He's gorgeous. Whenever he speaks to me I just go red. He's even better close up and with his long hair he's just... you know! I've met Michael Thomas as well, not that I knew it at the time.
We were stuck in traffic in London and were alongside this black guy in a really cool car. We started chatting him up, but when he gets out of his car to see what the hold up is we gave him some stick. So I'm up at the first home game of the season and Michael comes up to me and says: 'I've seen you before, we were stuck in traffic together.' I could have died!"
Victoria says: "Mel C keeps going on about this Jamie Redknapp but I wouldn't know him if he came up and slapped me in the face. I've seen a picture of that David Beckham and he looks nice, mind you. Perhaps I should go up to Manchester United and have dinner with him! My manager supports them and persuaded me to wear their shirt for the pictures. I wish he hadn't, it's horrible!
I don't live near any club and I never supported anyone. I don't know much about the game but I did meet Ian Walker once. He was at a party my mum and dad had about a year ago. He was talking to me but I wasn't really paying him much attention. Whoops, sorry Ian!"
Mel B says: "The best thing about football is when all the fans sing together. That's cool - it's a good vibe. I like looking at the players' legs as well, especially the foreign ones. I used to meet David Batty quite a lot but my fave player is Trevor Sinclair. He's lovely. I went out with a football player once, Steve Mulrain, who was a trainee at Leeds. We went to a game but I was sittin' there waiting for it to start and he turns round to me and says, 'Mel, the game's been going 15 minutes!' Shows you what I know!"
Emma says: "Come on you Spurs! All my family are Tottenham fans and my great-grandad's ashes are even buried at White Hart Lane. My dad's girlfriend bought him a red and white balloon on his birthday and he let it go straight out of the window and said, 'I'm not having any red and white in this house!' I haven't met any players yet but I wouldn't mind bumping into that bloke with the blond bits at the end of his dreadlocks, Trevor Sinclair, isn't it? He's well tasty."
Geri says: "I really got into football during Euro '96 and all those lovely foreign blokes. That Patrik Berger, he's dead sexy, isn't he? And that French guy, the one with the short hair who did the kick... Cantona - that's it - he's lovely, so passionate about what he does. I'll tell you one I don't fancy, that Jamie Redknapp. He's far too obvious for me. I'm with Mel B about the chanting and singing at games - it's a bit like a music concert really, with all the amazing camaraderie and the noise and everything. My local team's Watford. Oh, I wanna say hello to Gary Porter, who plays for them. Like the shirt, Gaz?"
