Ascension

She descends against the darkness like a windborne shadow,
Whispering her crystal promises of forever and a day.
The cobwebs of time parting beneath her form,
Breaking her fall towards the unwelcoming earth.
Like an angel made substance she drifted into our lives,
She gifted us with her laughter, lifted our heavy spirits,
And spared our dark and blighted souls.

Sometimes I feel her touch still,
As cold as a winters breath.

And how we tried in desperation to smash her fragile wings.
How we tried to tie her down to our weighted hearts.

She stared long into my loves and fears once,
As we watched the sky open wide one storm ridden night.
When we drank wine and she spoke of why she couldn't stay.
When she told why she had to break the promises she had made,
How this life had soiled her with it's rank, vile mind,
How it had spread it's dark tendrils into her like a tumour.

And I saw her ascend, smiling down upon us as she escaped,
Borne from the blood that we placed into her open veins.
