The music of Sunday Grey blends power and beauty into a rushing harmonic stream unparalleled by anything offered by indy noise bands or (need it be said) on the radio. Call it Gothic, call it Dark Pop, call it the band you have been waiting for, or just call it good original music; but the most important truth remains: Sunday Grey is not the same old music!
Moses Bates /:/ Bass
Moses, like most members of Sunday Grey, is a self taught musician. Learning on the fly in several basement punk bands (fortunately, all but one stayed in the basement!), gave him a chance to learn his own style. When those bands got boring, he knew he was ready to find a more serious outlet. A few years later, Sunday Grey is just the thing.
Moses is also an accomplished writer and lyricist. Moses has written over half of Sunday Grey's lyrics to date, and enjoys writing short fiction. He is a full-time student with Vermont College's Adult Degree Program (essentially a graduate program for under grads, where students pick advisors who guide them through designing their own curriculum and course of study), majoring in English and American Literature, and Education.
Nicole Fitzgibbon \:\ Vox
Sunday Grey's feminine side; Nicole brings a highly original vocal style to the band's sound, without which Sunday Grey would not be the same. Aside from fronting the band, a full time job in and of itself, she is majoring in Art and spoken and written Russian at Bryn Mawr college. This fits in directly with her other loves: French, Russian, and visual arts, including painting in oils and acrylic, and drawing in charoal, pastels, and pencils.
She spends her free time (what there is of it) either unwinding at one of the many Philadelphia area coffee houses or night clubs, or learning how to get along with the rest of the band (those musician types, ugh!)
Elias Ganim -:- guitar/rhythm
Sunday Grey's not-so-feminine side! Elias is the third piece of Sunday Grey's rhythm section, with his sometimes growly, sometimes brooding, and sometimes sunny guitar lines, the music never stops moving. Sometimes playing off Moses, sometimes off Michæl,he creates a channel of communication between the instruments which provides the perfect platform for the vocals, and an energetic counterpoint for the lead solos.
Elias has been an active (but safe) member of the area punk scene for many years now, and many people where shocked when he joined Sunday Grey. But, he explains, true punk is who you are, not what you do, and he likes the music he likes. Any questions?
Elias is a full-time student of graphic design at West Chester University, and, along with Nicole, is the graphic design department of Sunday Grey
Steve 'Diz' Dipinto (:) drum
Dizz is one of the few drummers who actually uses the whole kit, and what a kit it is! Dizz uses a rhythmic style that flows organically through driving, forward, measured assaults, carefully timed pauses, and paced, dark beats that pulse under the music to accentuate rather than confront the slower tunes. He is also not afraid to use more conventional beats when they will serve better, but the fills are still all Dizz!
Dizz works full time, but when he's not working, he's studying drums or looking for new equipment (always new equipment). He currently plays a Mapex Mars Pro Kit (LOUD!).
MichÆlRyan Hicks `:' lead guitar / keys
Michæl's lead guitar style would be impossible to imitate, and almost as hard to describe. Soft and melodic at one point, throaty and primal the next, but always just right for the mood of the song. He keeps the music fluid with guita solos that are new each time a song is performed. Michæl's style truly has to be heard to be understood, and even then many guitar players have said with delighted surprise: "What is he doing?" And he is equally a home on keyboards!
Michael is a full-time feirst year student at CCP, and plans to transfer to one of the Philadelphia art schools. He is also a part time photographer. He is perhaps solely responsible for the high price of coffee. His favorite bands are: Velocity Girl, Joy Division, Echobelly, R.E.M. The B-52's, & The Cure. He knows the 3rd `gry' word....
