What does it sound like when the future collides with the present? It sounds like Pound, the computer-savvy San Francisco quintet that can only be described as the finest high-tech punk band around. With a sound like a truck full of laughing psychos crashing down a granite cliff, Pound is a band that will weigh heavy on any person's hit list.
The members of Pound have known each other from an early age. Starting in a garage, Jay and Dav formed what was to be the nucleus of Pound over a decade ago. Five years later, this first project was disbanded, and Jay and Dav met up with new friends- Moe, Stuart, and Stuart's brother Ben. From this new collaboration they formed what was to be Zowie Zoo. As with all good things, Zowie Zoo eventually came to an end as the members matured in different directions, while Dav and Ben went on to start Redneck MF, a technology-based industrial band. The project was eventually transformed into Pound when Jay and Moe rejoined the band. Finally, Chris came on to play keyboards, and Pound was at its full weight.
The creative energy that the band shares quickly produced two demo recordings - Crushing the American Dream, and Glass-Eye Strut.. Glass-Eye Strut has gained the band considerable attention, with the song "The Virus" being given airplay on several national radio stations. The band was also featured on the nationally-available Allied Records compilation release Invasion of the Indie Snatchers. .
Rarely does a band successfully merge the raw emotion and power of punk with the controlled edge of technology. All too often, what comes of such bastardizations seems contrived, with the opposing strengths of each canceling out the other. Pound avoids this by adding three unique elements: raging melodies, samples both silly and sane, and a raucous sense of fun. Pound's live shows have to be seen to be believed. The band's on-stage antics will make you grin like an idiot, while the driving, powerful music will make your head spin like a windmill and your body twitch like a rabid dog.
Ben, the band's resident barroom philosopher, summed it up when he commented that music is the only thing that is ever really perfect. He added that anything that is truly great will be propelled by its own weight. That weight is Pound.
