Seeing as music plays such a huge part in my life, I decided to get my arse in gear and add something to this page - and what better to add than a list/links to my favourite bands? There are a *lot* of them - once I got started I kept thinking of more and more bands I liked - and I've looked for links for as many as them as I could. If you find/have a link that I obviously don't, feel free to mail me and let me know, so I can put it up. These are in alphabetical order, btw.
Adam Ant - ahha! Heheh. Eveyone I know thinks I'm such a dag for liking this band, but what can I say? I do. So there.
Ani DiFranco - I know, I know. Every time I even mention Ani DiFranco around people like Justin or Merryn, all I get is rolled eyes and rude comments. But screw you all, because i like her.
Aphex Twin - Have heard bits and pieces of Aphex Twin around the place - clubs, friends, and the like. But I recently got a tape from a friend with lots of their stuff on it, and I like them more and more. One of my favourite viddy clips is also one of theirs - a video to a song called "Come To Daddy", which is right up there with the clip to "Rabbit In Your Headlights" by Unkle.
Birmingham 6 - Yeah! I LOVE this band. Got addicted to the song "You Cannot Walk Here" by Adam and Justin, and since then I've liked everything else of theirs I've heard.
The Cure - I've pretty much grown up around The Cure - my mother was a big fan - and I still love them. I think anyone who writes such brilliant lyrics, and sings horribly out of key yet still sounds good certainly deserves 10 points.
The Damned - I've got a lot of fond memories conncected to this band. They're lots of fun, with great lyrics and highly boppable music.
Dead Can Dance - Not really sure what pigeonhole you'd slide this one into - they play such a range of stuff. I s'pose [and I say this grudgingly] if you like goth-type stuff, you could get into this.
Dead Kennedys - Yay! Grab a friend and slamdance around a room.
Eco - More industrial... If anyone can find an Eco page, please please PLEASE let me know. Buy it. Listen to it. Love it.
The Eels - A beautiful band, just beautiful. This is one of the few bands that I can listen to no matter what my mood, and I love every single one of their albums. They're wonderful.
Electric Hellfire Club - The lyrics stink, and I only like a few of their songs, but they get a mention 'cause the few songs I do like, I like a lot.
Front Line Assembly - Yes, my tongue is in my cheek.
Henry Rollins - I've been a fan of Rollins for a long time - starting with Black Flag, then Rollins Band, and finally his spoken word and writing stuff. This isn't a link to his music stuff - it's a link to a page full of killer writers. Regardless, check it out.
Joy Division/New Order - What can I say? I love these bands - they've each saved my life a million times over. I think these bands are the answer to "if you were stuck on a desert island...".
Lydia Lunch - Exercise your vocal chords. Brilliant musician, spoken word performer and writer.
Negativland - The epitome of noise music. I've found Negativland is very much a "love 'em or hate 'em" band. They're nothing if not infamous for the U2 saga, followed by the murder saga [see page link]. If you have a high tolerance for repetetive noise, check 'em out.
Placebo - Started listening to them pretty much as soon as they released their debut self titled album in '96. I fell in love with the "punkerama vigour" of the album, and my faith has only been re-affirmed with the release of their new album, "Without You I'm Nothing". This is definately one of my favourite bands, one which never dissapoints and always delights.
R.E.M - One of the few American bands I like. Granted, the older stuff was better than the new, as often is the case, but I still love 'em.
Sisters Of Mercy - Hrm.. gotta love that trashy 80's goth music. Love it.
The Smiths - The Smiths is another band I can - and do - listen to for hours on end and never tire of. This band has the ability to make you laugh or cry, and often at the same time. Morrissey gets you grinning at the irony and cheer in songs such as "Frankly, Mr Shakly", and "Unhappy Birthday" [I've come to wish you an unhappy birthday/ because you're evil and you lie"], or sobbing at the keiner angst in songs like "I Know It's Over". Très spesh, dahlink.
Snog - An Aus Industrial/dance band that isn't terribly well known, but probably should be. If you're into dance with a twist of industrial, and "lyrics [that] show a strong disillusionment with the western ideals of materialism and mass ownership, a stance which is bound to enrage the "gimme" sensibilities of American capitalism", then Snog is the band for you.
The Tear Garden - More goth industrial I can't get enough of. Listen to 'em! Nice!
The Whitlams - Another great Aus band. *Very* unlike the stuff I usually listen to, but they still kick arse.
The Wonderstuff - Heard a friend raving about them a while ago, and bought the "Construction For The Modern Idiot" vinyl when I saw it on sale for $4. I've only heard the one album, but I really, really like it.
X-Marks The Pedwalk - A band that does nothing but blow a great deal of EBM music out of the water, X-Marks is definately worth checking out. Rockin', baybee.
