"It's Sister Hazel's groove
mixed with DMB like improv, the energy of Oasis,
and the presence of the Stones". These were the comments of Lexington D.J.
Lee Dellapina after a Barstool Sarcasm show at Club A1A.
January 1st. 2000, musician/songwriter
Jason England woke up ready for
change. For two years prior, he and vocalist Brian Crace had been showing
their harmonic skills as an acoustic folk rock duo on the small college circuit
in
eastern Kentucky. But England was ready for something else. That same month
he
introduced the songs he'd been writing to Crace. The songs were fitting to
their format, but England wanted something else. In March, England assembled
some
studio musicians to record a demo in a friends basement. Among the musicians
chosen was accomplished bassist and old friend of England's, J.T. Cure.
Cure, who was already busy with the Kentucky Opry and The Morehead State Faculty
Jazz
Ensemble, took a liking to the sound and decided to join up with the duo. Cure
suggested adding another mutual friend in multi-talented, hard rock/bluegrass
influenced musician Kenny O'Quinn for the drums. The band practiced once and
performed the very next day at a wedding reception with a setlist that
included the songs England had written and some covers with long extended jams.
In
October, O'Quinn switched to guitar and mandolin and added seasoned drummer
Brent
Miller to the mix. Which leaves the present line up:
Brian "Chico" Crace - Lead
Vocals
Jason England - Guitar/Vocals
J.T. Cure - Bass
Kenny O'Quinn - Guitar/Mandolin
Brent Miller - Drums/Percussion
AND THEY'VE YET TO SLOW DOWN!
Their unique blend of alternative
folk rock & roll has provided them with
many opportunities. Since March, Barstool Sarcasm has played all over the
Central Kentucky area. Including two nights at the world renowned Bogarts in
Cincinnati,OH. A place that has showcased any number of acts from The Rolling
Stones to
Dave Matthews Band. They've played Lexington's Club A1A, Two Keys Tavern,
and Frankfort's Paradise Billiards. They are particularly large in Morehead,
KY where Crace, Cure, O'Quinn, and Miller attend college. In April, Barstool
headlined the annual Headstock Music Show at Morehead State. In September,
they secured the house band spot at Morehead's hottest club, T-Bone's. They're
currently booking gigs for 2001.
