Progress Reports

Work started on this site in late 1996 (about october) when I stumbled upon Mark Carters Mansun Admiration page. I was particulaly bored that evening and offered, via email, to transcribe the lyrics to all the Mansun EP's currently out (Skin Up, One, Two and Three) for him to put up. After many hours of listening to the EP's on my personal stereo, rewinding and playing constantly I'd managed to get a rough guess at the lyrics which I html'd and sent to him. Rediscoving html opened a little door in my mind and I decided to make my own site. After all there was only ONE Mansun site on the web so there was plenty of room. So I knuckled down to it working on a site day after day. It took me a long time, long enough for the official site to appear and my site to be demoted to third on the web (came out end of November) (boo! hiss!). The main reason for this was due to a problem I discovered with html. The front page was originally going to have an orange icon bar (in the orange of the mansun logo) down the right hand side of the screen. This was difficult to achieve but I toiled on and eventually found the solution, or so I thought. One day I loaded up my page from disk on a rather less powerful machine than the I was using in the USIT office (Rufus, a P120 with a HUGE monitor) and realised that the wonderful icon bar I had worked on was off the side of the screen. Gutted, I realised that this would have different disasterous effects on machines of different qualities around the world so I had to change it. Next I set out trying to have the front page presented in a table using percentile screen widths so it would adjust for each indiviual screen. This worked fine apart from one flaw, table are not flush to the edges of the screen so I ended up with a nice blue border around my gaudy orange bar, arrgh. I gave up with the idea and came up with the front page you have now seen. I actually like it better now. Its more simple and pleasing to the eye.
