![]() A big Steves' "HOWDY" to everybody. Well, we're finally updating the website. You might have noticed a new section that we've added. The Pics contains some pictures of our two heroes. In September, we took off for our 2nd Annual Rock and Roll History trip. Last year, it was a pilgrimage to The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. This year, it was Woodstock, New York. We went this year with a different strategy in mind as well. We decided to write a couple of new songs and record demos on the trip. "The Pics" contain photos of the trip, as well as a couple of WAV samples of the demos we recorded. Hope you enjoy them! Sometime in the new year, we plan on having a section of the site where you can order some of the great merchandise we've been sitting around coming up with (t-shirts, posters, cassette singles, toilet paper, etc.). Well, it was a fun fall. We played some great shows (both acoustic and electric) and met some cool new people (both acoustic and electric). Maybe you were one of them! On Thursday, November 19th we hijacked Lisa Landis' morning show on WJTL (FM 90.3), talking with Lisa and playing some songs live on the air. Big thanks to Lisa, Eddie Daniels, Fred McNaughton and all the folks over at WJTL for being such good sports and letting us go wild on their airwaves. Before too long we'll try to post some photos and maybe some audio clips from that day. We're going to take a short break from playing live though because of the holidays and also so that we can finish recording our new album. We've gotten quite a good response to the new songs, especially "World Keeps Turning," and we want to be able to get them on CD before too much time goes by. At our shows, people ask us all kinds of questions. Like, "How do you guys come up with all those great songs?," "What did you say your names were again?," or "Are you two on some kind of medication we should be aware of?". But one of the most frequent questions we're asked is "What style of music do you guys play?" Well, after much debate (and some vigorous thumb wrestling) we finally came up with a way to describe it. "Mutt Music." Like the lovable type of dog that the name was appropriated from, the music of The Steves has a little bit of everything in it. So, rather than try to invent some confusing description of existing categories all divided by slashes (i.e., folk / country / pop / rock / psychedelic / polka music), we decided to call it what it was . . . MUTT MUSIC! Like a mutt, you think it's kind of like this, but then there's this other thing that's just . . . different. But it's also lovable, friendly and just a little bewildering at times. And we're housebroken (for the most part). So, if anybody asks, The Steves are the best living practitioners of mutt music currently playing (in our basement). If we don't see you before then, have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and keep in mind that the reason for the season is not presents bought in a store, but a gift that was given free to all in a stable in Bethlehem 2000 years ago. And keep a watch out for the new WJTL Christmas CD "Jesus Is The Star." On there you will find your favorite band (meaning, of course, The Steves) singing a new version of that great Christmas hymn Angels from the Realms of Glory. There are also songs from ten other area artists. It should be in the stores by the time you see this. That's all for now. And remember, "If the dog goes, you go." |
