State Rep. Leanna Washington
We also wish to commend the work of US Rep Robert W. Schaffer. Congressman Schaffer was instrumental in initiating hearings regarding use of psychotropic drugs with children. Dan L. Edmunds, our Foundation president, served as a legislative aide to then State Senator Schaffer in 1993.

The Colorado School Board passed a resolution regarding psychotropic drugs. Connecticut followed by stating that teachers can not make recommendations of medications but only qualified medical professionals.

Law Limits Ritalin Recommendation

Legislation is now pending in New York State to prohibit school staff from making recommendations of psychotropic medications and to encourage that young people receive psychosocial intervention before any medication is considered. The Rose Garden Children's Foundation sees this as steps in a positive direction. 1
