This page is for the ravers out there and those wanting to join the scene..and those stereotypical people who think the scene is all about drugs and all the bad stuff. For example, I was on the internet last night talking to people then I called my friend on the phone. My sister had been watching Dharma and Greg and then Newsradio or somethin and she changed the channel, got something for my mom and went upstairs but kept the tv on since I wasn't going up there yet. Suddenly, I look in the direction of the television and there's E tablets in the shape of a 4-leaf clover. The segment was on NBC Newsline or something like that and it was an undercover thing on raves. First it shows a goody-two-shoes girl with her mom and dad sitting on a couch talking to the interviewer...a couple shots later, it shows black and white footage of a rave, the people there and u can hear what they're saying.
They talked about Ecstasy, the nitrous balloons, Special K and whatever else you'd find at any typical gathering of ppl in the age range from say...13-whatever! The problem I had with the segment was that they only showed the drug side of raves, and the biggest problem that people would thing of. You never see any news do a segment on how the vibe is absolutly the best and amazing and how people can go to raves sober, stay sober and have a blast; you only saw people (on their own will, of course) take drugs, have fun and dance. Sure, they aired the part where a chick rollin on E, trippin on acid and whatever else was sucking a nitrous balloon, passed out cold and woke up without any recollection of what had happened, but those people decided to do that. There are those certain type of people that go to get high off the music and have fun with friends and DANCE. Nobody understands anymore (well, around ME anyway) that raves are a place where you can go to get away from the problems of the outside world, leave it at the door and just have FUN without worrying about anything at all.
Of course, there's drugs EVERYWHERE you go no matter what, you're going to run into people that do drugs, have done them, and then those who wouldn't no matter what. People harp on the bad things in life instead of actually looking at the good side of things. My friend brought up a point about people being narrow-minded and stereotypical about raves. He's a raver from pittsburgh and just doesn't like it when people say that everyone that goes to a rave is there to get high and those who deal are there just to make money, it's all a big "drug department store" where you can get whatever you like no matter what...people choose to do that, some don't.
I got interested in the rave scene before school started this year (sept '99) because my friend from pittsburgh came to new jersey to see me and he was telling me about the wicked parties up in pgh and how ppl there are the best..which made me wonder why the hell people can't be so accepting of it like they are!
My other friend said, "It's one thing to carry weed around, it's another to push X, acid and crack" im like well yeah it is, but not everyone does that. He also says that "rave's would be ok if there weren't so many drug pushers there"...ok then, his opinion everyone's entitled to a couple of em...He also said, "raves are supposedly parties, but no, they're just places to get more drug business," and how many raver's out there agree? ppl there aren't there to make money and business they're there for ppl who want the drug, to roll or trip on it, have fun and be themselves with a little help...but people don't go around forcing people to try the drug.
On the NBC segment the girl undercover was asked if she wanted K, E or a nitrous balloon and she declined them...i think the whole thing was just a deal to see how many drugs were at raves. The goody-two-shoes girl in the beginning made a "closing statement to all parents" and that was for parent's to give their kids a curfew, know where their kids are going and who they're with, be home when the kids come home and all this overprotective parenting shit that i've been put through one too many times (if you really wanna know ...email me).
My friend and I want to go to Whistle 3 (in Pennsauken, NJ on May 27 at the South Jersey Expo Center) and when we told our friends, they either started on this big lecture about drugs and bad people or they laughed. Some people just piss me off about how fucking narrow-minded they can be about everything. I personally hate small-town life; I live in friggin bumblefuck with nothing to do around town but walk around aimlessly, go do drugs at people's houses and shit like that. If I had a place to go and hang out and have fun, I really do think I'd be a happier person, I'd have a better outlook on life and I'd just be so much more better of a person than I am now...my friend from pittsburgh even said that before he started going to raves that he wasn't as respectful to everyone and he's so much happier and nicer to everyone now that he's gone to these and yeah, he does E and those other fun things but who isn't going to try it, or atleast think about trying it once?
