Chapter 1
“Backstreet
Boy heart throb, Brian Littrell needs a heart transplant after yesterday’s
collapse during a concert. If anyone with a blood type A ( I don’t know what
blood type he is.) and willing to donate. Please call 1-800-help Brian.”
MTV’s Carson Daly announced as Jess watched for the Backstreet Boys’ music
video, The One. Her brother had been killed that morning and she was trying not
to think about it. Her head shot up as she heard that Brian needed a heart. Her
brother was a blood type A, so she thought it would be perfect. She first
discussed it with her parents and then picked up the phone. With shaky hands,
she dialed the number.
“Hello.
Welcome to help Brian.” A lady answered.
“Hi.
This is Jessica Lind. My brother died this morning and he is a blood type A. My
parents and I would like to donate his heart.”
“I’m
very sorry for your loss. Where are you located?”
“Orlando,
Florida.”
“Great.
What hospital has your brother’s heart.”
“Orlando
Central.”
“Perfect.
Brian is there, now.”
“Really?”
“Yes.
If you hold on a minute I will get doctors to check on the heart, first give me
your brother’s full name.” Jess told her the name and she was placed on
hold. She told her parents and they nodded.
Someone
picked up the line and with a southern accent said, “Hello?”
“Hello?”
“This
is Brian Littrell. First, I am very sorry your brother died and I really really
appreciate your strength to do this.” She couldn’t speak. Tears were coming
to her eyes, she had mixed emotions. Sadness, gladness, and happiness.
“Hello?”
“Um..
Hi.” She said, coming back to reality.
“Are
you alright?”
“I..
um. Was just thinking.. I’m sorry.” She started to cry, missing her brother.
“Please
don’t cry. Atleast not until I meet you. I wouldn’t want to cause you
heartache when I'm not there to comfort you.” His caring voice said over the
phone. Soon all he heard were sniffles. “I’d like to meet you and your
parents if that is possible.”
“Of
course it is, Brian. We are about 20 minutes away.”
“I’ll
be waiting at the entrance at B2. Is that good?”
“What
about the press?”
“They
wont see me. Don’t worry. Can you get there?”
“Of
course. I’ll have a rose in my hand. Bye Brian.” She walked back to where
her parents were grieving, took a rose and said. “Mom, Dad. Brian wants to
meet us in person. I told him we’d be there in 20 minutes.”
“Alright
sweetie, let’s go.” Her mother said, but handed her the keys.
They gathered in the Jimmy and were set on the road to the hospital.

“B2.
Mom, dad. Ready?” Jess asked, turning off the engine. Her parents only nodded.
They got out of the vehicle and walked toward the entrance. Press was there;
there she was, holding a rose. A single rose, for her brother’s heart. As soon
as she got inside, Brian found her and engulfed her in his arms. She burst out
crying in his arms.
