Chapter 1:

Jess stepped out of the bathroom and got dressed. As she was brushing her hair after she had blow-dried it, her phone rang. She decided to let her answering machine pick up. With her luck it would be her ex. The machine picked up and she heard the too familiar beat of ‘The One’ come on. She heard herself singing on the machine and smiled. ‘Back to Your Heart’ beats came on and again, she heard her voice. The music faded and she heard, “Hey. It’s Jessie. I’m not home; leave a message. Sorry this isn’t Nick’s house. I am not a girlfriend; I don’t even know him. Thanks bye!”

          The machine beeped and she heard a man clear his throat. “Hello, I’m guessing I am talking to Jess’ machine, not Nick’s. Well, this is Mr. J from JIVE records. I guess I called the wrong phone..” Jess picked up.

          “Hello?”

          “Hello?”

          “This is Jessie. Sorry I just got in.”

          “I am very sorry. I called the wrong phone number.”

          “It’s ok. I get it all the time. It’s bad enough he lives next to me and I get presents for him.”

          “Oh, so you do know him?”

          “Yea, very well, too. I just said that so those fans would get off of my back, saying I’m a girlfriend and blah blah blah.” She snapped.

          “Well, I have to say. I heard your singing.”

          “Yea. From the answering machine.”

          “You are very good.”

          “Thank you.”

          “Have you ever thought of going pro?”

          “Um. Wow. Well, yes I have. But my boyfriend.. well, ex-boyfriend. Put my dream down, so I didn’t think about it.”

          “I’m sorry. I think you should shoot for it.”

          “Yea. It’s been one of those days. I’m sorry if I have snapped.”

          “What happened?”

          “Well, my neighbor probably saw the whole thing so he should be calling in.. 1 .2 .. 3. hold on .. call waiting.” She said as she heard the beep. “Hello?”

          “Hey.”

          “Oh, thank god it's you Nick.”

          “Wanna come over and tell me what happened this afternoon? Brian is over.” He teased.

          “Shuttup. Yea, I’ll come over. I am on the phone with the JIVE manager; he called my house instead of yours and heard my answering machine.”

          “Answering machine?”

“Yea, listen to it later.”

“Ok. Call me when you come over.”

          “Sure. Later Nick.” She switched to the first line. “I’m sorry. It was Nick I’m too good. It scares even me.”

          “That’s quite alright. Well, do you have any friends that sing like you?”

          “Yes I do. Why do you ask?”

          “It happens to be that I am looking to produce a girl band. You know like a boy band- BSB.”

          “I see. I see. Yes, I have tons of friends who love to sing.”

          “Good, good. How many know that Nick lives next to you?”

          “Only one, CJ. She’s cool with it. She is a fan, but she doesn’t go insane when she sees him.”

          “Are you going to see Nick soon?”

          “A matter of fact, yes I am. He called to ask me to go over. Brian’s over too. Nick knows I have a crush on Brian so he busts me. Why?”

          “I need 5 girls in total, including you and.. CJ. Well, if you take CJ with you to Nick’s, I could call the four of you and talk to all of you at once. To make a meeting with you tomorrow morning. Of course, you can't tell the other 3 why you guys are going out. So it can be a surprise?”

          “Sounds like fun. Sure. I’ll talk to you soon. I’ll be over Nick’s in like 10 mins. I have to call CJ.”

          “Sure.”

          “Thank you very much.”

          “Your welcome. It's a good thing I called the wrong number.”

          “And it's good that I wasn’t in to pick it up.”

          “Bye.”

          “Goodbye.” After she hung up, the phone rang. She checked her caller ID this time before and saw it was her best friend. ”CJ!!! OMG. We must have mental telepathy or something. I was just gonna call you!”

          “Hi to you too, Jess.”

          “YOU’LL NEVER GUESS WHAT… Hold on.. other line.” She switched. “Hello?”

          “Jess, I can hear you from my house. What are you screaming about?” Nick said.

          “I’ll be over in 5.” She hung up on him and went back to CJ. “Be at Nick’s in 5, CJ. I’ll tell you there.”

          “Sure, damn girl. Can't you give me like a half hour notice?”

          “Nope, just got invited. Laters.” They hung up and she walked over to Nick’s.

Chapter 2:

She rang the doorbell. 2 minutes later the door opened. “Always makes the girls wait.” She muttered.

          “Oh, you be quiet.” The blond answered back.

          “NICK!!” she screamed. Her eyes widened and jumped into his awaiting arms. She hugged him tightly. They are like brother and sister, so it was a brotherly-sisterly hug.

          “Hi to you too, Jess.” Nick responded, laughing.

          “I missed you so much, Nicky boy.” She said. He let go of her and she looked to her right. “Hey Brian! I missed you too!” He smiled and they hugged. She breathed in his cologne and sighed. What she didn’t know was Brian did the same thing with her and her perfume.

          She had changed so much since he last saw her. Her long light brown hair was now layered and lighter. Her blue eyes now stuck out more and she had become thinner. “Hey, I missed you too Jess.” He said. Her beauty stunned Brian and he didn’t know how Nick could miss her looks. That’s what happens when you're on tour for months at a time, people change.

          They split apart and smiled at each other. He looked different to her, his hair was less curly than the last time she saw him. His eyes sparkled even more than the last time she looked into his shiny blue eyes. But that’s what happens when you're on tour for months at a time. People change. Jess spoke up, “It’s good to see you guys again. I’m going to the concert tonight.”

          Nick saw the difference in her too. She was beautiful and she looked totally different. “That’s great, you should have told me. I could have gotten you the front row tickets my mom got.”

          She smiled. “Well, you might want to thank your mom for giving them to me, I know I am dead appreciative to have them.”

          “Duh! I should have known! Duh Nick!” He said to himself.

          “That’s great, Jess. That means more time to chat.” Brian said.

          “Yea,” she smiled. “CJ is coming with me too. She is coming over so she should be here in 5.. 4.. 3..2..1.” As she said 1, the doorbell rang. “I’m soooooo good!” she said. Nick ran to the door.

          “NICK!!!!!!!!” we heard as he opened the door. A second later, he began to spin her.

          “CJ! I have missed you so much!” He yelled.

          “I missed you too, Nicky.” CJ responded. He put her down and she saw Brian. “BRIAN!!!!! I have missed you too!” She said as she ran for a hug from him. Brian laughed and hugged her.

          “I missed you too.”

          “CJ, come here.” Nick said. He opened his arms for her. She gladly walked into them. Nick saw a difference in her. Her black hair was also layered and her eyes seemed to sparkle. He knew she was beautiful, but now, this proved it. “Did you guys go to the same hair cutter?”

          “Na, what made you think that?” Jess said sarcastically as both girls hit their hair. “The phone is going to ring in 5. 4. 3. 2. 1.” The phone rang as she said 1. Everyone looked at her strangely and she shrugged.

          Nick unwrapped one arm from CJ to hit the intercom button. “Hello?” he said.

          “Is this Jess’s house or Nick’s?” The man said.

          “Well, technically Nick’s but half of the time it is mine too.” Jess said.

          “Great, is everyone there now?”

          “Yup, CJ is here. CJ say hi to the manager of JIVE records.” Jess said.

          “Hhhiiii?” CJ stuttered. She looked at Jess bewildered. She heard the man chuckle.

          “Sorry, CJ. Nick interrupted me telling you on the phone.”

          “Oh.” She playfully hit Nick’s arm. And he pouted.

          “Hello CJ, I am Mr. J. From JIVE records, as Jess said. I called Jess’s house instead of Nick’s house and I heard her answering machine. Again, Jess I have to say you have a beautiful voice.”

          Brian muttered to himself, “and body and face.” Jess heard him and looked at him. He blushed and so did she.

          “What was that Brian?” the man on the phone asked.

          “I was talking to myself.”

          “About Jess’s looks.” Nick added. Brian picked the pillow up from the couch and threw it at Nick. It hit him in the head.

          “Ok. Anyways, I am looking for a girl band, like you guys are a boy band. So I asked Jess if she had any friends who sang and she said yes. I asked her if anyone knew that Nick was her neighbor and she said you, CJ. Then she told me that she was visiting Nick tonight. So I decided to have all of you four at Nick’s to discuss this. I have a question for the guys. Did you know your friends could sing?”

          “Well, of course.” Nick said.

          “Why didn’t you tell me?” Mr. J said.

          “Because I didn’t know you were looking for girl singers.”

          “CJ, can I please hear you sing to one of the boys’ songs.”

          “Sure, uh Nick could you put on a song please?”

          “Yea CJ.” He got up and placed Millennium in the CD player.

          “Yea, CJ anything for you.” Brian mocked Nick. Nick shot him a dirty glance. And Brian shut up. The manager was getting a kick out of Brian mocking Nick and Nick mocking Brian. ‘I Need You Tonight’ came on and Brian and I exchanged looks. Nick smiled and so did CJ. She started singing. Her voice flowed through out the house and we all applauded after she finished.

          “CJ, you are very good too. I hope that your friends can sing as good as that, Jess.”

          “Some of them.” Jess said. “Do you want me to sing?”

          “Please.”

          “Ok. Brian pick a song.” He nodded and he went to the CD player. ‘Back to Your Heart’ came on and she chuckled. It was on her answering machine. Her voice also carried through out the house and even gave Brian the chills at one point. The song ended and everyone clapped.

          “Very good, Jess.” Mr. J said. “Can we make a meeting to meet everyone tomorrow? And keep it a secret from the girls who are going to come with you?”

          I looked at CJ who looked at me. “Sure, we are going to the boys’ concert tonight. So could we make it like 10?”

          “Sounds great. Nick and Brian make sure you bring the girls there and help Jess and CJ get the guests.”

          “Of course,” Brian said.

          “Thanks again.” I said.

          “Yes, thank you.” CJ said.

          “Your very welcome. I will see you tomorrow at 10.” With that he hung up.

          “Gotta call the girls.” CJ said.

          “Yup, who you wanna call? Julie, Jayme and Allie?”

          “Sounds good.” CJ answered Jess.

          “Great. Nick do you mind if we use your phone?”

          “Of course not.”

          “Please be quiet.” CJ pleaded. Jess dialed the numbers and put it on speakerphone.

          “Hello?” Julie picked up the phone.

          “Hey, Juls it's Jess.”

          “Hey Jess.”

          “CJ and I have a surprise for you tomorrow. Right?” Jess said.

          “Yea, Jayme and Allie too.” CJ said.

          “Sounds like funny. What time and what is the dress like?”

          “9:30 and what you would wear for a job meeting.” CJ said.

          “Ok where?”

          “Well, we can't meet at my place.” Jess said.

          “So my place,” CJ said.

          “Great. 9:30?”

          “Yea. 9:30.” CJ said.

          “Cya tomorrow. Have fun at the concert tonight.”

          “Thanks. Cya tomorrow morning. Can you call Jayme and Allie, please? We have a few things to do before we leave.”

          “Of course.”

          “Thank you.”

          “No problem. Bye.”

          “Bye.” They hung up.

Chapter 3:

They talked until it was time for the boys to go to the stadium. “We’ll take you girls with us. We will get you backstage and into the stadium early.” Nick said.

          “Great!” CJ and Jess exclaimed. They got ready and left.

          In the bus on the way to the stadium, Brian sat down next to Jess. “Jess.” He said, his voice losing it's strength.

          “Yea.” She said, turning to face his blue eyes.

          “You have a really good voice.”

          She blushed and said, “Thanks.”

          “No problem, after all it's the truth.” They hugged and turned the focus back on the conversation about the girls meeting the JIVE manager. The girls were asked to sing with the CD and they did.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
          “NICK AND BRIAN!!!” CJ and Jess shouted. They came running out of their rooms. “Good luck.” Jess said to Nick as she hugged him. CJ hugged Brian.
          “Thanks.” He said. CJ hugged him and said the same, they stayed there for a long time.
          “Good luck, Brian.” Jess said, shyly.
          “Thanks.” They hugged, splitting up after a few minutes. She kissed his cheek and squeezed his hand. She grabbed CJ and their backstage passes and ran past the guard. They were in a long hallway, which led to a side opening. The girls gave their tickets in and went through doors. On the other side they got our tickets, half sized, back. They ran to their seats, getting pulled over by Nick and Brian’s bodyguards. They asked the girls if they would go upstage for ‘Show Me the Meaning Of Being Lonely’ because Nick and Brian didn’t want to take strangers when they knew people in the audience. The girls agreed in a split second and they said that Nick and Brian would personally come down to get us. The girls sat down and were attacked by some teenyboppers.
          “What did the bodyguards say?” One asked.
          “Do you know BSB?” Another one asked.
          A shy one asked, “Can you help us meet them?”
          “Wooaaaaah. Girls calm down.” Jess said.
          “Yea.” CJ added. “It’s none of your business what the bodyguards said, how do you know they are bodyguards.” CJ thought.
          “Because we recognize them from the airport.” The first girl said.
          “We can't help you meet BSB.” Jess said calmly.
          “How did you get those passes?” The shy one asked, eyeing the passes around the girls’ necks.
          “Um. Our friend got them for us.” Jess said, thinking quickly. It was true, but her friend was Mrs. Carter. “The show is about to start, why don’t you guys go back to your seats?”
          “Well, we are behind you. But ok.” The shy one said, quickly realizing that they wanted them to leave.
          “We’ll talk to you later!” One screamed out to CJ and Jess.
          CJ and Jess just shook their heads. “I can't wait till tomorrow, Jess. I can't thank you enough.”
          “CJ, don’t worry about it. I am so psyched though. My dream come true! Well, one of them. The other one is Brian.”
          “And both are working out fine.” CJ added.
          Jess smiled and shook her head, “And what about you and Nicky boy?”
          A voice made them turn their heads, “Yea, what about you and Nicky boy?” It was one of the teenyboppers. She was listening into their conversation. “What about Brian, too?”
          “Geez, nothing that matters to you.” CJ said. She muttered to Jess, “Now I know how the guys feel with the press.” Jess slightly laughed and they turned back to the stage as the lights went low.
Chapter Four:
          “Well,” Nick tried to speak but the audience screamed, cutting him off. The boys had just come out on stage in dressy clothes with roses in hand. “This is the time to grab the person who means everything to you. And I know that Brian and I need to take the ladies that mean everything to us out from the audience, right Bri?”
          “Of course, Nick. You guys going to get other beautiful ladies from the audience as well?”
          The guys said of course and they ventured off stage. Brian and Nick squinted toward Jess and CJ and smiled. They came down the stairs and stood in front of them. They could hear the teenyboppers squeal at the sight of their favorite Backstreet Boys. Nick said, “I want to introduce my best friend, Jess.” He took Jess’ hand and helped her up.
She smiled shyly and Brian said, “Who is going to be my girl for the night.” She began to smile more as Nick handed her hand to Brian who took it into his. She moved over toward Brian and he wrapped his arm around her.
“Ah, and here is Jess’s very beautiful best friend, CJ. Who will be my girl.” He put out his hand and a second later hers was inside his. He helped her up and put an arm around her. The teenyboppers said out loud, “They lied to us! They said they didn’t know the boys!” Brian and Nick exchanged glances and produced two roses for the girls at the same time. They headed up the stairs as AJ, Kevin and Howie found their girls. Soon enough, everyone was on stage.
“Now that we all have our beautiful girls,” AJ began.
“We can sing Show Me the Meaning Of Being Lonely.” Howie finished.
“Geez, Howie. Do you always answer my statements?” AJ joked.
“Only the ones you don’t remember.” Howie threw back.
“Are you guys ready?” Kevin asked the band. They nodded and then Kevin asked the audience, “Are you ready?” The audience began to scream. He looked at his girl, “Are you beautiful ladies ready to be serenaded by a Backstreet Boy?” The girls all blushed and nodded.
“Hit it, band!” Brian yelled. The familiar tune of the song came on and Jess and Brian swayed to the music. The boys began to sing. Brian’s voice gave Jess shivers as he began the song. He pulled her in closer as AJ took over. All the girls were mouthing the words as the boys sang. Nick held onto CJ tightly. Brian spun Jess around to sing, “You were missing in my heart. Why can't I be there where you are.” and the words around it. Jess and Brian could both see the love each other had in their eyes. All the guys were amazed as how much affection Brian had for Jess. Nick wanted to do more than just hold CJ in his arms. But he decided against it.
The song ended and they let go of their girls. “We thank you wonderful girls for coming up here. We would like to give you each a backstage pass so we can talk to you later.” Howie said.
Each guy, except Nick and Brian produced passes and handed them to their girls. Then they showed them to the stairs. Nick said, “We would give you backstage passes, but knowing you already have them.. We won’t.”
“Always making girls feel special, huh, Nicky.” Jess said jokingly.
Nick didn’t say anything when she called him Nicky because Jess was allowed to call him that. “Of course.” He responded.
“We have a surprise for you girls.” Brian said.
“Nu-unh.” CJ said.
“Ya-huh.” AJ said making fun of her.
“Shh. You.” CJ said, laughing.
“We just want to congratulate you guys on getting a meeting with our manager for your own band.” Kevin said.
“With…” Howie started.
All the guys joined in, “BACK TO YOUR HEART!! And then THE ONE!!!”
CJ and Jess cracked up. They began to hear The One start, but it was the version on Jess’ machine. She mouthed, “O MY GOD!” to Nick. “That was from Jess’ answering machine.” Nick said. The band began to play Back To Your Heart. They all sang and they harmonized very well. It was like they had practiced it before. The audience went wild as the song ended. The One came on and they also harmonized during that song. The audience loved the girls.
Chapter 5:
“So we all going to Nick’s?”
“Yea.”
“WAHOO!!!” CJ screamed.
“Shhhh. CJ, they’ll know we are talking bout them!” Jess screamed. CJ sighed and continued to think about Nick’s arms around her.
Jess was in her own little world thinking about Brian when someone picked her up. “AJ!!! Where are you taking me?” She whined.
“How did you know it was me?” AJ asked.
“Um..” She started to blush. She had felt his body; she had been a backup dancer for part of a tour. “Because I can tell.” She said. She still loved his voice, his body, his face and his hats, they had dated but before anything got serious she told him. She told him that she loved Brian, always had and always would. He understood, sometimes when people are best friends forever, they are soul mates. They became friends and told each other everything. Nothing could compare to what she and Brian had. AJ was kind of depressed about losing her as a girlfriend but realized that Brian and her were meant for each other. Especially at the concert, he saw the love in each of their eyes.
“Unhuh.” He muttered, knowing that she had felt his body and could tell it was him. She heard CJ squeal out Kevin’s name. “She’s being taken to the same place as you.” They stopped at a door and Q let them in. There sat Howie, Nick and Brian. AJ saw Brian’s face drop as he entered with Jess in his arms. Nick’s face dropped as Kevin came in with CJ in his arms. They were jealous, wishing they had them in their arms.
“We have come here to talk to you, Nick, Brian, CJ and Jess.” Kevin started.
“Brian and Jess, what’s up with your relationship?” Howie asked. “I mean all of us can tell you like each other.” Jess and Brian turned red and looked at each other.
“I don’t know.” Jess muttered. She got up and ran out of the room. She ran out of the arena and Brian followed. Their tour bus was leaving and Jess ran in front of it. Brian saw it and tried to get her out of the way. In an instant that the bus driver saw them, he slammed on the breaks, still having a huge impact on hitting the two people.
“SHIT!!!” the bus driver screamed. He picked up his cell phone and called 911 as he got out to find Brian and Jess sprawled on the ground, bodies next to each other. The other boys and CJ came out.
“O my.” CJ said. Tears formed her eyes and she clutched onto Nick.
“NO!!!!!!!!!!” Howie, AJ, Nick and Kevin screamed. The five together ran up to the frantic bus driver who was screaming at 911.
“Jess? Brian?” CJ poked them.
