This is a great first applet because it is really easy to set up. All that you need are the names of the images that you want the applet to choose from.

Step 1:  Copy Code

The text box below contains all of the applet code you need to put the applet on your page but, you will have to make some modifications as described in the following steps.

This applet requires images.
Read all the instructions carefully, and be certain to:
(1) Choose your own images (.gif or .jpg files) to use in the applet.
   (2) Replace the image names in the code (Your-First-Image, etc) with the actual names of your images.
  (3) Replace the link names in the code (http://linktoIMAGE1, etc) with the actual links to your images.
If you miss one of these steps, the applet will appear as a gray or black area on your page.

You need Java to see this applet.

Note :  Although this applet may be customized, DO NOT alter the first line of the HTML code.  The applet will not work if the first line of the HTML code, which begins "", is changed.

Step 2:  Customizing the applet - Width and Height (REQUIRED)

Change the values for WIDTH and HEIGHT to the actual values for your image using the pixel measurements of the image.

Step 3:  Customizing the applet - Images (REQUIRED)

Select as many, or as few, images that will randomly appear on your page. You may use either .jpg or .gif images.

The IMAGE parameter defines the images of the applet. Each image is placed in a parameter, and each parameter has a different name. The name is constructed by appending a number, starting from 1, then 2, then 3 and so on to the word "IMAGE ". For example, the fifth image is IMAGE 5. Substitute the name of your image in the value section.

Step 4:  Customizing the applet- Links (Recommended)

The links are made in the same manner: LINK 1, LINK 2, LINK 3 and so on. LINK 1 corresponds to IMAGE 1, LINK 2 to IMAGE 2, ... you get the idea. You need not provide a link for every image if you do not wish to.

Step 5:  Customizing the applet- Background Color (Recommended)

The BGCOLOR parameter determines which color the background of the applet is. This color is only shown when the images are loading or if the image is smaller than the applet dimensions. It is specified in hexadecimal, as when you create your HTML pages.

Step 6: Go to File Manager

Click on the File Manager button below.  Follow the File Manager instructions and save the HTML.
